i've no knowledge about rifles but how come we are performing so well in space research sector while we don't even have a decent rifle.....why it takes so long to create just a simple and effective rifle
Comparing Space sector with Rifle Production the most foolish thing one can expect. Both uses different part os scince and both required different approach . It is a typical literate Indian attitude who thinks science is learning physics chem get degree and do job.

There is No rifle which is decent. It ony depends on customers choice. One who only love branded meals of five star hotel cannot be statisfied with meal of Dhaba how must it taste though

That doesn't answer my question, what took it so long to come up with a sub standard rifle

Fools, no better word would describe it. It is Indian Army which dumped a decently working FAL 7.62mm rifle in favour of 5.56 rifle after reading too much into American brochures of virtues of 5.56mm rifles in 1991. It took 15 years to get the locally built INSAS rifle right (same time for M-16 - American rifle took to work properly). Five years back they wanted it automated, which was done in Excalibur rifle. The latter passed all stringent tests. Again five years back they wanted a multicaliber rifle. India was close to building it. Then they discovered that the multicaliber does not work under battle conditions. Now to circumvent all these they have come back to 7.62 rifle with 500 yards kill rate and wish to import it. A 1.3 million strong army would need a number close to it ultimately, no matter how small initial order is placed at a roughly $20,000 each.

Fools, and fools again for the top brass who put the nation and the soldiers thru this indescribable hardship and it will cost anywhere from $10 billion to $20 billion expense, even if bulk of it is built in India.
These deals are simply done for corruption hijacking public money nothing else. INSAS is powerful rifle and can litreally outsanding with if with sights and scope

Well it is only the media which calls INSAS a substandard rifle. In the previous trail INSAS passed all the trails where this BRANDED rifle failed. In even Tavor that is widely used in army had lot of issue when brought in 2006 and 2008. Yet is not criticsed ever. All the allegation borught by these so called defence experts are already solve in long ago. INSAS B1 is the product of those rectification. INSAS ONLY LACK TWO THING THAT IS GLAMOUR AND ADDVERTSING

And add to your rant, RFI is for 7.62 x 51 mm not AK calibre.

That would mean the contenders are :

1) SCAR-h
2) HK-417
3) beretta -ARX200
4) Galil ACE

Well lot of my threads were banned on this forum related to this issue of new assault rifle for Indian Army although I was quoting only Indian sources. But now I am proven right. Now guys are you planning to include FN SCAR also in trials or not

Galil ACE is mainly in 7.62 x 39 caliber. Also Indian members on our forum are suggesting that FN SCAR may not be included in trials because it's way to expensive for India. They are mostly propagating Galil

What ever the decision, this time weapon will have to be delivered within 4-28 months of signing of contract. 66k off the shelf and 120000 pieces will definitely be manufactured in India.

As far as cost goes, Indian companies are very good at lowering the manufacturing cost. There should be a considerable reduction of cost if there is a long term plan.

Somehow this calibre Does not make any sense to me atleast, either this is a goof up like before or there are some major doctrine changes happening in the background.

Also 180k in total could also indicate that these guns are dedicated to COIN ops.

Well I think this new COLT 901 series should be included in trials. It's available in 7.62 x 51 as well as 7.62 x 39 and 5.56 x 45

Maybe not, COLT had filed for bankruptcy in 2014.

Well no matter what paid media says INSAS will never get replaced by a foreign made AR. If it's not Excaliber then it will be MCIWS. It's just IAR for god's sake.
well mciws looks promising but mciws and excalibur better than pakis hkg3 and chinese qbz

Once again, Army starts global hunt for a new-generation assault rifle
HIGHLIGHTS

  • Similar attempts over the last decade have failed due to unrealistic technical requirements
  • The Army is looking to induct 65,000 rifles in the first go
  • The overall programme cost is slated to ultimately cross the $1 billion-mark
...

carbines, light machine guns, sniper rifles and the like for infantry battalions are also stuck in the long-winded procurement process.

I fully understand the need to earn bribes. But lets do it the chinese way without damaging the nation. Call 5 top pvt engineering companies, and ask them to produce reverse engineered Hk-417 etc and give the contract to the best model. Take the cut. Everyone happy.
