ARDE designs multiple-calibre rifle, begins prototyping | Sakal Times

I don't know about the reliability of the source but points to be noted are

1. three prototypes are being built.( there was reports of them undergoing trials:confused:)( but article is from march)
2. three calibers are 5.56; 6.8 ; 7.62
3 trial are scheduled for august.
4 technology demonstration before trail.

If we have our own desi guns and that too Multi caliber one then what would be the need of this new rifle tender ? Few sources also claimed that a gun made by rifle factory ishapore went under production .... which gun was that one ?

I hope this tender falls, And we focus on INSAS ..

The DRDO multi-cal is under trail, It was a rumor that DRDO multical will be under production from Jan 2013 but actually it went for trails in Jan 2013, Conform by DRDO Chief later..

Colt LE901-16S Carbine .308 Win 16in 20rd Black for sale - LE901-16S - Tombstone Tactical.

still price cant reach $15000 Plus as per tender price :tsk:
how can it be? we have in the past imported TAR-21 ( one of the contenders) and know its price

In 2009, Union home minister P Chidambaram cleared the procurement of 10,147 assault rifles from IWI in a `144-crore deal. The defence ministry had also imported similar weapons for use by its special forces.

roughly about 3000 USD per rifle at 2009 prices. Cost it appears also include its MARS sight.

this says that it cost 1900 USD for TAR 21 minus the sight. Sight cost about 1600 if you get if out of open market. So in all good deal, if sight is included with cost of rifle.

now any stretch of imagination 3000 cost rifle including cost of sight, plus additional modular rifle barrel will at max cost 1000 USD, so the price wont reach the astronomical sum of USD 15000 per rifle. :tsk:

From pic, width of magzine looks like it will only 9mm rounds as in SMG, any how i might be wrong.
but i believe Bullpup design is lot better as it helps in reducing size of gun as well as profile of soldier.

Are these rifles reliable? Can they work in desert, humid Jungle and extremely cold mountainous area like Siachen simultaneously? :frusty:

We can also use Ak 12.

Design- "The AK-12 has external modifications, most of which are consistent with the modifications favoured by Russia's specialist, professional military units: Picatinny rails—allowing the attachment of modular accessories, including advanced optical sight combinations, laser illuminators, flashlights, vertical foregrips, bipods and grenade launchers. An improved adjustable telescoping buttstock is also fitted. The rear sight has been moved from the front of the receiver to the rear, the combination selector lever/dust cover on the right side of the receiver has been replaced by a thumb-activated ambidextrous selector lever above both sides of the pistol grip, ambidextrous push-button magazine release, ambidextrous ejection port and reversible cocking handle above vertical foregrip. Firing modes include safe, semi, 3 round burst, and full auto. To improve accuracy, the rifle has a new muzzle brake and the barrel has improved rifling."

AK-12 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I think it is world class rifle. :crusin2:

kunal dont go by this pic .When i saw it in another exhibitiion couple of weeks earlier every thing about the DRDOs multi cal rifle was same except the pic of weapon. To my shock there wass a pic of something which closely resembles M4/hk416 and it was not deffenitely a bullpup!!!
On further inquiry thee official told me that the propposed weapon is based on INSAS design.God knows what will be the shape of its final product.

Buddy ishmaz is not competing as there are faults in AK12 design which needs to be cleared.Any way AKK12 could have cost cheap and reliable compareed to any other competitors .

New Kalashnikov Has 'Range of Defects' - Test Agency

The latest version of Russia's world-famous Kalashnikov assault rifle, the AK-12, has shown up a range of problems during initial testing, the head of the weapons-making agency responsible for trials of the new gun said on Friday."The trials are ending, they are around 80 percent complete right now, but there are a series of flaws in it," said Dmitry Semizirov, General Director of the Tochmash state arms firm based near Moscow.

Semizirov declined to elaborate on what the defects were, saying this was "the developer's confidential information."The weapon was developed by Izhmash, the Izhevsk-based gun maker which has built Kalashnikov rifles since the 1950s.Another source, however, told RIA Novosti the faults were fixable. "The weapon tests will be completed at the end of November this year as planned," he said.Izhmash's General Designer Dmitry Zlobin has defended the new weapon, saying the AK-12 was sent for preliminary trials precisely to "highlight all snags and weaknesses in the new development." Having received Tochmash's expert observations, Izhmash's designers will incorporate any necessary changes to the weapon ready for state trials in the second half of 2013, he added.Series production is due to begin at the end of 2013.

Development of the AK-12 began in mid-2011. The new weapon retains the overall layout and features of the 5.45-mm caliber AK-74, in service with the Russian Army since the 1970s, but has minor modifications and ergonomic changes.Zlobin has claimed law enforcement agencies have shown strong interest in the new weapon, on which a range of firearms are to be produced including pistols, submachine guns and assault rifles for general military and special duties tasks.
Izhmash, and Izhmekh, another gun-maker, are to be amalgamated in a new state-controlled small-arms holding under the Kalashnikov brand, under a government plan to consolidate the industry, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said earlier this month.
