Starting this thread to discuss another Making of another sri Lanka in North .


The Nepal government has been trying to prevent the decline of foreign exchange (forex) reserves in the country for quite some time and they have now decided to ban the import of luxury items in order to take care of the problem.

Nepal Rastra Bank spokesperson Gunakar Bhatta explained that the biggest challenge for the government is to maintain the forex reserves properly, according to a report on myRepublica, an English-language National daily newspaper published by Nepal Republic Media in Kathmandu.

"The import of luxury items has been stopped to prevent the decline in foreign exchange reserves due to the rising deficits and high imports," Bhatta was quoted as saying in the report.

However, Bhatta made it clear that the step was not taken due to any economic crisis in Nepal and asked the public to not panic because of the ongoing rumours of problems with the economy.

According to the report, he said that NRB currently has forex reserves to continue the imports for another six to seven months and it can increase depending on how the economy performs.

In the latest move, imports of machinery, silver, readymade garments, electrical appliances, rice, textile, motor equipment, mopeds and other design vehicles, bicycles, gold and paddy were banned.

Besides the aforementioned products, the imports of a number of different items like fish, vegetables, honey, eggs, meat, bananas and chips, betel nuts, plants, chillies, dairy products along medical, optical and surgical instruments were also banned according to the new order issued by the authorities.

After Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal is also facing financial problems. The country is facing a forex exchange crisis, it has already suspended Central Bank Governor as the bank had earlier announced a ban on import of vehicles and other luxury items.

I see decline in forex, they shouod peg their currency with òurs like Bhutan.

Nepal, China may sign deal on feasibility study for cross–border railway


The total investment needed for the project would be known once the feasibility study is completed, but the pre-feasibility study had estimated the cost of the railway, whose 72.25 km section will fall on the Nepali side, at $2.75 billion.

As per the pre-feasibility study report, around 98.5 percent of the railway would either be bridges or tunnels, and construction cost would be Rs3.55 billion per kilometre.

If Beijing and Shanghai become more accessible to Kathmandu compared to Kolkata or Delhi then Nepal won’t remain a landlocked state surrounded by india from 3 sides
It takes takes 24 hours to travel from Kathmandu to Kolkata by Road
Its not about whats near.. it's about what price nepal mango man will pay for shaving off few Hours...

between who said this will bring beijing and shangai near with this 73 Kms train line ??

It will connect Kathmandu to Railway network of China just like Lhasa is connected with rest of China
But The most important and densely populated cities and towns of Nepal like Kathmandu , Birgunj , Biratnagar , Janakpur etc are along indo-nepal border

It will connect Kathmandu to Railway network of China just like Lhasa is connected with rest of China
But The most important and densely populated cities and towns of Nepal like Kathmandu , Birgunj , Biratnagar , Janakpur etc are along indo-nepal border
You are contradicting yourself now.. Come what may.. U will need to spend more to get the same stuff via beijing than kolkatta...

While i am not aware where is bottle neck on Infra / roads but 24 Hrs for a approx 1000 kms journey is acceptable..for a goods carrier.

You are contradicting yourself now.. Come what may.. U will need to spend more to get the same stuff via beijing than kolkatta...

While i am not aware where is bottle neck on Infra / roads but 24 Hrs for a approx 1000 kms journey is acceptable..for a goods carrier.
A time will come when importing or exporting goods from lhasa will become easier , quicker and cheaper for Kathmandu as China is making expressways and high speed rail corridor in Tibbet While india has still not prepared the DPR for most of the proposed expressways in Bihar , Jharkhand and Bengal

Nepal’s Forex reserves are at $9.75 bn while Pakistan’s is at around $12 bn, so don’t know who’s more fucked up? Coz Pakistan is a much bigger economy than Nepal (more than 10 times larger to be precise). So Neoal is pretty much on a safer side as of now.

Nepal just needs to control their imports, which as of now are pretty high.

You are living in dreams Mate. Any Such high investments to Khasa will need to be justified with trade . Infra projects are capital intensive. With Chinese economy slowing down, chances of this high speed train to Lhasa s still a pipe dream...

Rest Assured, Bihar / Jharkhand have good roads expressway... Bengal is a Enigma at the moment..

In Hind sight, Even if china manages so called High speed rail to Lahasa ... Kolkatta will still be cheaper!!!!!

Look at a bloody map, chinies are not some bade dil waale pupha ji who brings mithai whenever he visits and leaves after handing some amount of money.
Kolkata is still cheaper. What does nepal export anyway ?
You cross whole China or you cross three states in india to reach to the sea ?

A point where Tibbet is as industrialized , populated and rich as Singapore or Hong Kong would eliminate the need of india for Nepal

Have you seen the Tibetan terrain? Do you see any ports over there? Tibet will never get close to Singapore or HK for at least these two reasons. At the end of the day Physics & economics trump everything, so unless China perennially subsidizes that part of the nation the West of China will always remain a second (rate) cousin especially wrt their much wealthier south or east.

Nepal Exports and imports a lot of things using Kolkata port and there is no need to cross entire China if population infrastructure and economy of Tibbet grows Nepal would flourish trading with Tibbet alone
