Dear DFI members,

I have been observing DFI for the last few months and have noticed something, which I will split into two parts:

  • Need to improve the quality of the discussions in DFI
In the last few months, we have been seeing a dilution of several threads. The Pakistan Country Watch thread now resembles the "Idiotic Musings - Failed Terrorist State of Pakistan" which is a joke thread. Similarly, threads such as India-US relations, India-UK relations, etc., are becoming synonymous with the Idiotic Musings from Firangistan thread.

Adding humour to our discussion is good at times, as it takes a little steam off, but turning entire threads into jokes and conspiracies reduces the quality of discussions. As enthusiasts of so many topics here, the DFI members represent a section of society that is far more aware than the average Indian and is passionate to resolve issues. The more people we attract to this forum, the more awareness we raise. It is not just a discussion board but also a place where we can make a difference.

Therefore, I would request more stringent actions from Moderators to clean existing threads of nonsensical comments, including those that may have been posted by me.

  • Need for more countries in the "Country Watch" section
A lot has changed around the world since the start of the Russia-Ukraine War (RUW). Our foreign policy, military engagements, defence exports, and internal unrest are all seeing massive changes. Dr. Jaishankar is pulling no punches, more ministers are performing their roles better, the developing world is warming up more to us, and the developed world is in a conundrum about whether to consider us as adversaries or potential allies.

This all needs to be accurately captured based on the increased engagements with several countries. For example, a lot is happening between India and 3-4 Latin American countries. Colombia wants us to help them set up a pharmaceutical industry, Argentina raised the Malvinas issue with us, applied for membership to BRICS and wants to buy weapons from us, Brazil wants to make us a strategic partner in the C-390 project, and we recently established a full-fledged embassy in Paraguay.

The Anglosphere has been increasingly politically hostile to us despite pretending not to be, with several economic, trade and diplomatic flare-ups. The non-Anglosphere European countries are doubling down on shifting their economic and strategic attention toward us (along with China).

All of this needs to be captured in dedicated country watch threads.

Either we do it at a regional level or at a country-level. This is open for discussion here.

Welcome your thoughts on this.

Regards,

Tshering Denzongpa

Pakistani sub forum barely has any contributors from their side.
Pakistan has barely anything to cover in daily news except politics, and their politics isn't something people are interested in (except their political crises like current one).
Similarly, threads such as India-US relations, India-UK relations, etc., are becoming synonymous with the Idiotic Musings from Firangistan thread.

Agree on that threads on anglosphere need more moderation on part of unnecessary memes/jokes, though members still carry out valuable discussions at larger instances.
Defence threads being totally technical don't have this issue.
Mods just don't have time often to go through. So, members are requested to be more careful as well as report their own posts for deletion.

Selectio of country watch section are based upon extent of political engagement with India.

All three country watch forums on DFI are practically inactive except Chinese one because of presence of Chinese members here.
Who will update and expand so many sub fora on daily basis?
We do not need separate fora for Argentina, Brazil, UK, Japan or Germany, each section to hold small amount of info for each country. Instead we have sub forums for geographical regions which is perfect.

Although, Afghanistan forum may be merged with Subcontinent & Central Asia and instead a sub forum for the United States can be created given it's a topic of interest. That also should be done provided that members can pull that section off big enough with valuable threads and organisation like we did with newly created space program section.

Big brother what are your opinions with regards to the feasibility of Asian union? Saarc right now is npc. We must focus on building traditional Indo-sphere as it has historically been.

Zero
Asia is barely a single continent. Middleast, South Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Northern Asia (Russia) and Asian islands are socially, economically and culturally apart like different continents. And even in those, countries are eternally at war with each other. Europe was a relatively small, ethnically more similar and larger Judeo-Christian society.
Over it, they are all power hungry states like European great powers in 19th and 20th century, this time, far bigger and powerful than their European counterparts.
Saarc right now is npc. We must focus on building traditional Indo-sphere as it has historically been.
India is far away from block politics, leave alone building a block of its own.
