Contact was established between two large groups of Naxals and security forces.

Imagine two warring groups of battalion level strength spitting lead at each other. There will be losses.

If only our troopers had greater situational awareness that would give them an all round situ intel of a 3-5 km radius as they proceed towards their objective on foot.

Situational awareness in Paramilitary is next to none, when Muricans faced IED attack they began looking into ways to counter it immediately. Result being MMRAP, IED detector vehicles.
To counter Ambush they sent drones ahead to provide reconsiance.
Result being death due to IED has dipped several times.

I guess Some aerial surveillance is always better than no surveillance at all.

LTTE vs Sri Lanka internally was seen an ethnic conflict between Tamil vs Sinhala.

There was little to no support for LTTE within the country, even from the Tamil elite living in Sri Lanka.

The conflict was confined to a very small zone.

By comparing the Maoist movement to LTTE and following the same modus operandi is setting ourselves up for failure.

It was clear cut for Sri Lanka because their enemy was distinguished by ethnic, linguistics & geographic lines.

I guess Some aerial surveillance is always better than no surveillance at all.

I said it in my earlier post, we have use drones to scout the area first, better use armed loitering drones for the role to attack them first. At the same time coordinate the location to the nearest battalion to seige them. This way we could actually prevent any loss of life by sending our troops blind eyed into the forest.
