SOMALIA: Al Shabab presents images showing ammunition, hand grenade confiscated from U.S NAVY SEAL
Barawe (RBC) Somalia militant group Al Shabab has today presented images showing confiscated equipments from the U.S NAVY SEAL's covert operation on Barawe town on Saturday, RBC Radio reports.
The images obtained by RBC Radio shows one hand grenade, three round of ammunition of M16 rifle and GPS coordinator which Al Shabab spokesman said they have got from the road near the seaside house where the U.S NAVY SEAL targeted on Saturday.
"We have confiscated these equipment from the white invaders who tried to attack us on Saturday." Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Mus'ab said.
"The Mujahidin had been always able to resists back against the attacks from the U.S and its allies." Abu Mus'ab added.
Several pro-Al Shabab websites reported that the group also confiscated two ladders which the U.S NAVY SEAL used for the predawn operation.
"Early in the morning of Saturday white soldiers from the westerners attacked a house in the town of Barawe, they tried to storm the house but the Mujahidin who were already on alert repulsed them." Sheikh Abu Mus'ab said in a press conference today.
He said when the white soldiers realized that they can not reach their target whey have fled towards the coast.
"Soon they ran towards the coast and the Mujahidin followed to chase them until they got on a waiting boat on the coast." Abu Mus'ab added.
According to initial report obtained by RBC Radio the house was resided by Al Shabab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane (also known as Mukhtar Abu Zubeir) and several members of the group's intelligence unit known "Amniyat". Godane is believed to be the mastermind of the last month's deadly attack on the Westgate Nairobi shopping mall.
The raided started around 3.00 am local time as residents of Barawe said they have heard a heavy gun fire and several big explosions before the matter turned into direct exchange of fire.
Al Shabab fighters who were keeping guard the house where Ahmed Godane was likely staying confronted against the foreign attackers.
U.S officials later admitted the responsibility of the attack which aimed the arrest of senior Al Shabab commander linked to the Nairobi's Westgate mall attack.
