J-15 has serious FCS issues in addition to host of other mechanical class. One can copy Su-33 physically but copying FCS for complex Carrier based ops requires full understanding of the design. Collectively J-15 was a non starter from word go. Chinese are already developing a replacement.
In comparison Mig-29Ks are much better.
In this touch&go footage from Indo-Russian joint exercise, the Su-33 certainly seems much clumsier than Mig-29K (that, our it pilots are better than theirs by far).
damn it is even better than mig29
Not yet... Mig-29 can do short takeoffs. I don't know if NLCA can.

Regular;Short;

Bruv mig 29 can actually carry loads and stuff, why even compare NLCA is just a test bed.
How much though?.. Never seen one taking off Vikki other than clean config.
Yes it can.
If it can do clean config short takeoff, then it should definitely be able to do long takeoff with decent external load... :hmm: Not AShM maybe, but LGB & EFT.

Very old video. In all probability Mig 29K are also flown by Russians ( in the video). Most probably pre-commissioning trials.

The bulged canopy gives slightly better area ruling. So maybe wee bit less wave drag. I don't think it's of much significance in the larger scheme

Said by Nilesh..... .
@Bleh
Referred your question.

Wait, it's actually better?.. That's great!
As far as testing of this model for drag coefficient is concerned, we have the test results in the LCA thread I believe which has been shared long back.
Couldn't find it... Is it in the old LCA thread? Please point me to it if your can.

In Vikramaditya, apparently they have 3 wires & you are supposed to go for the middle one... NP-2 landing missed it & caught the last.
On Nimitz class ideal trap is when hook catches 3rd wire. But it has 4 wires. So you are correct. NP-2 caught 3rd/last wire. But it's perfectly ok. Even 2-3 bolters would have been ok since NP-2 was attempting it for the first time. And experience of Mao sir is limited wrt arrested recoveries till date.

Read HVT reply about combat capability of NLCA MK-1.

The purpose of NLCA will be determined by its purpose in regards to threat from Pakistan.
All LGB, Spice, Guided bombs weight around 1 ton, in case of bombing role it can only carry 3 to 4 bombs max not counting the Drop tanks.
In case of Aerial combat roles it can carry 4 to 5 R 73 max which is good enough.
In case of anti ship role it will be able to carry 5 kh31 kh35 anti ship missiles at most.

Now u can't take the drop tanks out of equation as u need a decent stand off distance between Paki Coast and the ship.

I don't know whats out doctrine when delaing with Pakistan but at least a ditance of 300-500 km is warranted.
USCG launches from as far as 800 km.

He didn't disclose how much, eh?...

Primary role of Indian Navy is sea lanes blocking with ships and Carrier providing air cover.

Secondary is anti-shipping where carrier air group takes lead at longer distances destroyers for lesser ranges.

Tertiary is Land attack with SLCM mostly followed by Carrier Borne aircraft if needed. ....Gwadar can easily be hit by SU-30MKI launched Brahmos.

Now coming to NLCA MK-1. Firstly what is being proposed here is a NLCA MK-1 squadron (thanks to its higher rate of availability already displayed wrt Mig-29Ks) can take over the role of fleet Air defense from Mig-29Ks. Freeing the latter to focus on Long range missions given its lower rate of availability. Mig-29KUBs can also provide refueling support to NLCA MK-1s when needed. Mind you, both are suboptimal solutions. Specially the Mig-29Ks whose replacement has been sought with TEDBF, when it is only 10 years into service. Says a lot.

Anyway adding a squardron on NLCA MK-1 will not only give Air Boss the ability to put more numbers in air in quicker timeframe. But also generate ops specific data for TEDBF program. Highly needed for quicker development.

There Is a lot to gain if Navy gets out of this 'no-single engine policy' for time being. BTW Indian Navy carriers have only seen single engine fighters before Mig-29Ks. Be it 1971 fame Alize & Sea Hawk or just retired Sea Harriers. French Navy has also flown single engine Super Etendards in past. And amazingly after decades of operating twin engine, the USN is shifting entirely to F-35Cs.

Single engine deck based jets may not be entirely a death. And when NCLA MK-1s will retire possibly to LIFT role once TEDBF starts joining in a decade. I feel there is lot gain for the amount of risk it brings for a being a single engine fighter.

A Pic to bring things into perspective. Expect more and better pics in coming days.

Mig 29K is not being replaced by TEDBF. Both are different fighters and will serve on different type of carriers.

if that qn. is directed at me then....No. I am with same id as here.

I will just say. You will learn about from official sources through media in days to come.......right now CAG report is good open source information to connect the dots and put a picture of situation.

Besides TEDBF is very much in MTOW class as Mig-29Ks. And TEDBF is gonna be standard fighter on both the Carriers from 2030-32 onwards. As well as intermediate one on INS Vishal till 5th gen Naval Fighter is developed.

Sure, lets see. Btw, what you are claiming is that the miraculous TEDBF will operate from both STOBAR and CATOBAR carriers. How many fighters have achieved such a feat till date?
