........................................................
A close look at this video, the NLCA takes off in clean configuration with engine power at 62Kn.
This is very encouraging as it still have about 20Kn reserve, which indicates it will be able to take off with decent payload.

Proposed two Mk2 prototypes (NP 3 & NP 4) with GE 414 will be worth perusing given the turnaround times and reliability demonstrated by NP 1 & 2.

Boeing Says Super Hornet Fully Compatible With Indian Navy Ski-Jump Carriers

Indian aircraft carrier enters sea trials as navy eyes Rafale (uses CATOBAR in Charles de Gaule)

F-35

F-14 feasibility test.

Both systems are rarely used by any single user. That's why...

What Boeing and Dassault have said about F18 and Rafale taking off from STOBAR carriers is just their claim based on some simulations they have performed internally. There is no means to verify what they have said. If they are serious about their claim, why not have a Rafale take off from Vicky?

As for the F35 image, anyone can see that the image is that of F35B, the STOVL variant which is specifically built for take offs without catapult support, not F35C, which is the true CATOBAR carrier variant. F35B and F35C are different aircraft.

Well noted!!!.. @Gessler

Naval Tejas Mark 2 is officially cancelled though. It's only TEDBF now.

Good point about F-35... But both F-14 & F-18 had undergone feasibility trials for sky-jump takeoff (don't have any details about payload etc.)

Again, probably because no other country uses both systems together.

^^ It doesn't matter whether their claims work or not, the a/c in question doesn't fit the lifts of IAC1 and VikAD. So no point in gauging the capability of the a/c they can't go beneath the deck for repair and maintenance.

Where did I write anything that is contrary to what you are saying? My point is feasibility tests and claims are not same as operational induction. Even much experienced and bigger aircrafts designers didn't test their CATOBAR fighters on our STOBAR carriers despite having a multibillion dollar order on the line. And people are expecting somehow India will be able to do it in the timelines that are being asked for despite having never built a medium weight or a deck based fighter. That is why the words "miraculous TEDBF".

No, he was talking about doubts on TEDBF being of both CATOBAR & STOBAR capable.

Didn't have to... Their jets won't operate from Vikramaditya or Vikrant.
With enough thrust & lift, any fighter that can endure the EMALS should be able to take off with sky jump. Anyways, that remains to be seen.

CATOBAR fighters are sturdier and heavier to withstand the catapult forces. Catapult provides more thrust during take off. If the same fighter takes off from a ski jump, and thrust is lesser, payload could reduce. So even if the fighter succeeds in taking off, it won't be useful for military operations due to reduced payload. That is why STOBAR and CATOBAR fighters have been different. Lets see if TEDBF solves this problem.

Sure, lets see. Btw, what you are claiming is that the miraculous TEDBF will operate from both STOBAR and CATOBAR carriers. How many fighters have achieved such a feat till date?
Nothing miraculous!!!

Any aircraft capable of arrested landing is rated for 4.5 g de-acceleration. That amount or less of acceleration it will face during a CAT-Shot.

Only change TEDBF will need to undergo when shifting from STOBAR to CATOBAR will be a new nose gear (with a T-hook for shuttle attachment and a latch for restraining). But, since ADA is designing INS Vishal in mind from start. All TEDBFs will have same nose gear irrespective of STOBAR Ops or CATOBAR Ops. Though FCS will have two modes.

If you still think that is miraculous then ask how as per respective designers of Rafale and F/A-18 SH, their fighters can operate from STOBAR INS Vikramaditya and STOBAR INS Vikrant.

Added later: Simulation or not. All STOBAR fighters are capable of handling extreme forces. And reverse i.e CATOBAR to STOBAR is rather easier in terms of physical strength of the airframe. FCS however is where they will have different modes for Launch/Take-of.

Only thing more sturdy in a CATOBAR fighter in comparison to a STOBAR fighter is Nose Gear. Something which can be easily replaced, on requirement, provided the flexibility in undercarriage.

ADA is designing TEDBF with that in mind.

TEDBF is born out of two requirements. First is ADAs need to design a 4.5 Naval fighter before shifting to 5th gen. Second, Navy's requirement to replace Mig-29Ks and additional fighters for INS Vishal. So ADA dropped NLCA MK-2 and Navy unofficially dropped NMRCA. Interestingly first rendering of TEDBF appeared to be Rafale M class twin engine MWF......If that's how TEDBF gonna look like ultimately, the time will tell.

but

but

what will be the range with GE 404 or with GE 414 ????

its the range which will be decisive as to what is to be done with NLCA.

Tedbf will have two f414 and internal fuel greater than rafale. It's range might match or exceed that of su30 mki. It will be very long range fighter.
