Yeah thats why India is deploying BMD phase-I. Paki missiles are very easy to intercept. India has been tracking their tests for decades and know before them if it succeeded or failed.

Barak needs to be faster. It is only Mach 2 when compared to Aster at Mach 3.5 - 4.5

http://ajaishukla.blogspot.com/2015/12/lr-sam-operationalised-indian-navy.html

About five-to-seven kilometres short of the target, a seeker on the interceptor’s nose switched on, locking it onto the target. To accelerate the interceptor, which was by now merely coasting, the dual-pulse motor fired for a second time. This increased the interceptor’s velocity up to Mach 5-7, enabling it to manoeuvre sharply in tandem with the target’s evasive zigzags.

Israel Aerospace signs $93m Indian missile deal
The contracts with the Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard are for Naval MRSAM (Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile) systems.

Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) announced that it has signed agreements worth $93 million for provision of Naval MRSAM (Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile) systems. The contracts are with the Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). Under the terms of the contracts, IAI will provide complementary systems for the air defense system (ADS), involving follow up orders for a range of maintenance and other services for various sub-systems of IAI’s advanced MSRAM ADS.

Last Thursday, the Indian navy, in collaboration with IAI, held an interception test aboard INS Chennai, which assessed for the first time potential collaboration between ships. The interception scenario, which was executed successfully, demonstrated how the operational force of the defense system can be doubled regionally, rather than topically.

IAI EVP and General Manager of Systems, Missiles & Space Group Boaz Levi said, “The follow-up orders provide additional evidence of the satisfaction and trust of our Indian partners in respect to the MRSAM family. The Thursday test demonstrated the advanced technological capabilities of the air defense system as well as our collaboration between IAI, its partners in India’s navy, the local Indian industry and our colleagues at IAI’s ELTA and RAFAEL. This is a badge of honor for the entire Israeli industry."

The MRSAM family is an operational air-defense system used by Israel's navy as well as by India’s naval, air and ground forces. It has been uniquely developed by IAI in collaboration with Israel's Ministry of defense, India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), RAFAEL, IAI’s Elta and additional industries in India and Israel. To date, MRSAM achieved over $6 billion in sales. It provides broad as well as topical defense against a range of assault air, marine and ground threats. MRSAM comprises several key state-of-the-art systems, including a digital radar, command and control, launchers, and interceptors with advanced homing seekers.

11 ship sets of #LRSAM orders are already in the kitty of BEL and the first set will be supplied to the user by March 2020: BEL CMD M V Gowtama

India should keep the radar and scrap the missiles to replace them with Astra with an ER booster attached to it. This would be a huge boost to indigenisation and a spiral of technologies for Astra 2. Get everything on a common platform and keep pumping out different variations of it is how you become self sufficient and reach economies of scale.

That's probably the plan in long run. India is testing different seekers radar and booster working on multiple projects simultaneously .

Astra mk1 , mk2. Akash , akash Ng , Barak 8 , XR Sam , sfdr , ngram and even s400 will come with some TOT.
Not to mention BMD project with PAD and AAD.

Putting all that knowledge and expertise together within a decade India should be self sufficient in all spectrum of missile technology including air to air and surface to air missiles.

Joint Israeli, Indian venture to make missiles kits for Barak-8 weapon
India might be buying Barak 8 ER for Indian Navy ,designated for task force defence.

Well, it has finally dawned on me why! Because India ordered 1000 Barak-8ER missiles from Israel in 2009! The delivery status of the missiles isn't known. It's likely that IN ships using Barak-8/LR-SAM missile are equipped with longer launch tubes compatible with the ER variant.

Recently India bought 1000 Barak 8. Although user is shown as IAF and IA, IAF has no need for Barak 8 ER due to the S 400 and IA has the MRSAM for area protection. Thus logically end user could be IN.

Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems signed a $100 million contract with KRAS (Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd. India), to manufacture and supply 1,000 Barak 8/ MRSAM missile kits for the Indian Army and Air Force.

It's a joint DRDO-IAI development. Ironically DRDO's XRSAM is essentially a Barak 8 strapped to an even bigger rocket booster module.

XRSAM and BARAK ER might look similar and use the same air-frame but the internal of the missile will be Indian which includes dual pulse rocket motor mated to an additional booster and navigation and warhead. Since India is already inducting MR-SAM along with its Integrated Phased Array Radars like Multi-Mission Radar, Mobile Tactical Radar, and Medium range Fu Radar it is expected that even the XRSAM system will be designed for operation in conjunction with same Integrated Phased Array Radars which already have been developed for the MR-SAM program.
