He is just saying what his masters/ideological buddies are telling him to say.
As for converts the non-Bamar tribes are already converted long ago, they are around the Myannmar India border.
Bamars will always remain Buddhist come what may.
Only relief has been the actions of Bamars untill recent past, pretty aggressive against Rohingya & church. Lent a pair for Lankans too. But Church is too powerful and they are masters in usin the cracks within to take ctrl of the society. Experience and money are on their side. Now a political void in Burma too. Till now the fight has been good, let's jus hope our frnds don't give in falling to church narratives.

Myanmar's military ruler declares himself Prime Minister, pledges to hold elections by 2023

General Min Aung Hlaing attends the 9th Moscow Conference on International Security on June 23, 2021.
Myanmar's military ruler Min Aung Hlaing has taken on the role of Prime Minister in a newly formed caretaker government, state media reported on Sunday, six months after the army seized power from a civilian government.

In a speech on Sunday, Min Aung Hlaing repeated a pledge to hold elections by 2023 and said his administration was ready to work with a future regional envoy on Myanmar.
The announcement and speech came exactly six months after the army seized power February 1 from a civilian government following elections that were won by Aung San Suu Kyi's ruling party but that the military said had been fraudulent.

Min Aung Hlaing has chaired the State Administration Council (SAC) that was formed just after the coup and that has run Myanmar since then, and the caretaker government will replace it.

"In order to perform the country's duties fast, easily and effectively, the state administration council has been re-formed as caretaker government of Myanmar," a newsreader on state Myawaddy television said.
In his speech, Min Aung Hlaing repeated a pledge to restore democracy, saying, "We will accomplish the provisions of the state of emergency by August 2023".

He added: "I guarantee the establishment of a union based on democracy and federalism."

Shortly after the coup, junta leaders promised new elections within two years. The reference on Sunday to August 2023 was interpreted by some local media as extending that time frame by six months.
Min Aung Hlaing also said his administration would work with any special envoy named by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

ASEAN foreign ministers are to meet on Monday, when diplomats say they aim to finalize a special envoy tasked with ending violence and promoting dialogue between the junta and its opponents.

The army seized power after Suu Kyi's ruling party won elections that the military argues were tainted by fraud. It has said its takeover was in line with the constitution. The country's electoral commission has dismissed the fraud allegations.

After the coup, Suu Kyi, 75, was charged with several crimes. Her trial on charges of illegally possessing walkie-talkie radios and breaking coronavirus protocols is scheduled to resume on Monday.

Months of protests
The military authorities have faced months of protests, strikes that have paralyzed public and private sectors, and a resurgence of armed conflicts in the borderlands.

The authorities have branded their opponents as terrorists.

"At present, the whole country is stable except for some terrorist attacks," Min Aung Hlaing said in his speech.

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners activist group has accused the armed forces of killing 939 people in suppressing dissent since the coup and said at least 6,990 military opponents have been arrested.

The military said the number of protesters killed is far lower and members of the armed forces have also died in violence. It said its response has met international norms in the face of threats to national security.

Ya'll Nibbiars rohingas?.
Rohingyas will not be allowed by the Christian Mizos, I tend to believe they are Kachin and Arakan army rebels and dissenters from Myanmar Police, Myanmar Millitary and Political opponents of Tatmadaw.

To be honest, India and Indian members here should never support the incapable military junta in Burma. First it's incapable of defending its own borders or reigning in its people even though it was in power for last 5 decades. If a govt is incapable of providing political solution to its people then it's bad and needs to go.

Most of the problem India faces on her borders with Burma is due to the actions of Burmese military. India thought by appeasing her, she could rein in insurgents living on their side of the border. We did successful for quite sometime but the problem is reappearing again due to the absence of political solution. India needs to take a strong stance there.

New Delhi Must Intervene Immediately To Regulate Entry Of Myanmarese Into Mizoram Before They Pose Internal Security Threats

The number of alleged refugees is now at around 10000 or 11000. Border is not fenced & heavily forested.

Mizo govt. administration is facilitating the influx on alleged Christian refugees in to the rest of India.

So they are persecuted, forced to run away with little belongings but have lots of evangelical literature with them, interesting.

Let's recall that there were protests in Aizwal against center's advise with banners that read "Bye Bye India, hello China" (PS - i fail to see as to how they can say hello to China when they do not have any land border with them) etc. They think they can preempt or stonewall any action from center with the threat of secession.

Rouhingyas get support from Islamists, mosques, "civil" society & establishment.

Chin christian fanatics get support from Islamists, mosques, "civil" society & establishment.

But CAA (that includes Christians as well) is fascist.

India is not a signatory to any refugee conventions around the world; meaning we are not bound to take in any refugee. Myanmar, whether the junta or under Suu Kyi, have been friendly to us and have helped our forces eliminate terrorists in the northeastern region.

We must do everything to hand over this CM and his cohorts back - we want nothing to do with their internal conflicts and moreover, we must send a message to the Church that we will take Buddhist Myanmar's side rather than suck up to a colonial ideology originating in the Middle East. The above excuse of not being a signatory is good enough.

GoI is wary of insurgency being fuelled by the Chinks and Pakis in Mizoram, if they force out these fellas back to Myanmar. They do have the local sympathies
