LAHORE: As the wife of a renowned Bollywood music composer, the now 88-year-old Ghulam Fatima has seen many colourful moments back in the day. She has witnessed the golden era of Indian cinema first-hand, considering she along with her husband — the late Feroze Nizami — rubbed shoulders with the who’s who of the Indian entertainment industry.

“I used to entertain people such as Lata Mangeshkar, Madhubala, Vyjayanthimala and Dilip Kumar at our house; they all considered my husband their ustaad,” Fatima told The Express Tribune, whose husband was one of the finest music composers of the Indian film industry. “Dilip was actually one of his most beloved pupils,” she recalled.

According to Fatima, it was upon her request that film-maker Shaukat Hussain Rizvi decided to cast Dilip in his film Jugnu. “He had become very disappointed by the failure of his film Jwar Bhata. Feroze requested Shaukat to give Dilip a chance and luckily, Jugnu became a hit and Dilip, a superstar!”

Similar was the case with singer Mohammad Rafi who also got his big break in Jugnu on account of Fatima and Feroze.

“It was me who looked after him at my home in Bombay, when he had moved there and was struggling to make ends meet. It was upon our insistence that Shaukat and Madam Noor Jehan agreed to sing with Rafi and he became famous for the song Yahaan Badla Wafa Ka Bewafayi Ke Siwah Kiya Hai.”

Feroze went onto compose hits, such as Chandni Raatein and Tere Mukhre Da Kala Kala Til, and gave music for films such as Dupatta,Sukoon, Qismat and Chanway. Fatima takes pride in how she along with her husband helped people such as Dilip and Rafi come to the limelight. “It was Feroze and myself who brought these legends to where they are today. I am glad they remembered us and made it a point to call, even after we moved to Pakistan,” she said.

Unfortunately, their sentiments were not echoed by the Pakistani population as Faima claims her good times ended soon after Feroze died in 1975. Once the go-to guide to the stars, Fatima has now been confined to a one-bedroom rental in Jogi Mohallah at Lahore’s Bhatti Chowk. And what’s more, she is struggling to get back to her hometown of Bhendi Bazaar, India, despite being unable to leave her bed.

“In the beginning, I was satisfied with our decision to migrate to Pakistan as the film industry here was developing and Feroze was considered a top-notch music director. He was working on the music of 16 films!” shared Fatima. “I never expected my life to take such a turn after he was gone. I have five sons and all of them are doing odd jobs to make a living.”

Fatima is full of resent for the Pakistani government, which she accuses of overlooking those who help the nation’s cause. “This does not happen to artists or their families in India as the government there supports them. Here, I have submitted multiple applications to request for assistance — even to Punjab CM — but to no avail,” she revealed. “Now, all I ask is that if they cannot support me, they should kindly arrange for me to just go back to my country so I can die in peace there.”

She should produce No polio certificate, an undertaking that she is not a suicide bomber and lastly she should agree with GOI stand that Pakistan is a terrorist failed state than only govt should give her Visa.

Also, we are not responsible if someone beats her with stick for eating beef.

Even better, she must pull off a Ghar Wapsi and seek refuge in India.

Point to be noted:
1. Though she says... she could die peacefully in India, but for what she and her husband had kicked the notion to be an Indian, rather migrating to pakistan!!!. India must had be taken as a hostile nation in her mind set, while pakistan as a would be JANNAT!!! that's why she along with her family migrated in hope of same religion( that makes here the believer of 2 religion theory- muslims can't live with hindus) and better money hopes.
2. Now when she is unable to cope the so called Jannat life there, while observing the much better life style in dignified manner over here, she wants to dump her NOW motherland!!!!!! thats a typical muzzi culture mindset, eat the best, while kick( Kill @@) all rest.

Now if she gets refuge in here, and people points her out as an opportunist, this same lady will scream that for being muslim, she is being put under discrimination. And blame Hindu India for her status before presstitudes.

I think it will be better to let her live and die in her current jannat, while denying resident status here.

Not worth it because 88 year old won't add favorably to the demography neither she could ever become the mother of Hindu child.

Her country is Pakistan. Her family decided to migrate. It may have been a wrong decision, but she has to live with that decision. Hope the Indian Government doesn't entertain such losers.

all of you guys above are 100% correct

but anyway, oiut of compassion , here is a solution, ( possibly ) ;-

notta problem ....be committed to solving any and all issues without violence and youre welcome to return home
Compassion should be shown to people who deserve it. She lost the Indian compassion when her family decided to migrate.

One of prominent Pakistani poet/professor (~Shohra Aqeel ?? ) who migrated to Pakistan once wrote.

" Jhulastey Huey Regzaron ke Khatir, Mehaktey Huey Gulsitan Chod Aye.

Left Aromatic Flowery Gardens; For Sweltering Deserts.

No wonder many Pakistani started to hate him after that.

what youve written is True !

Is it possible that by openly stating her intention to return , she is implicitly saying that Pakistan has failed and so we want to return ......

it sounds a bit double-faced but the statement is being made to the whole world that their experiment with pak and pak itself is a failure ?

so does the media exposure sort of make up for the double-cross that they did to india earlier '? .

i think it might be a mitigating factor ?

ol course when such people return , they cant expect to live off government funded projects and taxpayers money ....they will have to show that they are going to finance all their media and music projects with their own or foreign sourced resources !

National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K) has claimed that at least five-six of its commanders were killed in an Indian Army operation on Friday.

According to reports the gun battle took place between some 30 Indian paratroopers and suspected NSCN-K militants along the India-Myanmar border, in the Mon district of Nagaland.

However some local media reports quoting NSCN-K sources said the operation was carried out inside Myanmar border.

While the Army confirmed the operation, it rejected reports that the forces had crossed over and the incident happened in the Indian side of the border.

"Our troops had laid an ambush along a known infiltration route. After the ensuing gunfight, the militants fled back into Myanmar. They left some weapons behind. There were no casualties on our side," an army source was quoted by The Times of India.

The Army has also refused to confirm the number of casualties on the militants side.

If indeed the operation was inside Myanmar, this will be the second such strike in recent times.

In June last year, Indian special forces had conducted a surgical strike across the Myanmar border which inflicted "significant casualties" on NSCN (K) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

It was in retaliation to a militant attack that killed 18 army soldiers, which was the worst attack on security forces in two decades. Even then the army had denied launching any such operation.

The NSCN (K) is an armed insurgency group which aims at unifying all the Naga-inhabited areas in the North East of India and Myanmar to form a sovereign state.
