Excuse me, noob question. How does someone gain from TOT, someone as in India? Do we get the money for each missile that gets built in Vietnam?

Business (money) and Relations. For e.g. India. We procure billions of dollars worth of weapons each year. Every foreign country wants in on this now coz they want to earn. India knows they are dying to get hands on Indian money so we negotiate strictly that we need the ToT also. Even though some countries don't want to give ToT to us, they have to because we won't accept the deal without ToT and they will lose billions.

Other thing is building relations. E.g. If we develop good relations with Vietnam by giving ToT and some other perks, we can probably think about setting up a naval base there and counter china a bit.

Viets already using Yakhont precursor or variant of Brahmos as Coastal Defense. They need Brahmos as Land Attack/ Anti ship so i think Russians won't mind India selling Brahmos to Viets.

Otherwise what's the point of JV

Sell them Prahar which is superior than Russian Tochka that created Mayhem in Yemen war. Chinks would cry like a baby with Prahar in Viets hands.

Selling is ok but ToT? I don't think russians will just agree to that.

Vietnam may not be looking at 290km range Brahmos but 600km one, This what they are talking about,In forums ..

In VTV1 news its about unknown missile with ToT but said Brahmos and Akash..
TOT is for akash only, It's just a mistake by news agency in case of Brahmos.

They might be the first customer of Tejas too to replace their mig 21, HAL might give them an opportunity to supply a right/left wing or some component for tejas.

Does anybody know what was the outcome of the recent meeting in Beijing between Trần Đại Quang and Xi Jinping.Apparently the thugs of Beijing were on an extreme charm offensive to persuade Vietnamese to snuggle up to PRC or else!!!!!

Vietnamese are very creative people, They manufacture their own small arms and they too have their own designs which are in service of their arm forces, They also license manufacture KH-35 with ToT transfer from Russia which are used by coastal forces as well as their Navy ..

Russians and Viets have strong defense ties. Majority of their defense hardware is Russian.
But did russia give ToT for those hardware as well? I don't think so. They might have just sold them.

It is for relationship . You have to do . TOT for licence manufacturing is somewhat different from degining . It is clear cut massage if you arm porkistan we will arm entire of your boundaries staring from Vietnam, philipence , Mongolia , and whole of South China Sea nation . This is larger massage than tot . And now Akash 2 is coming this year or next . It will be semiactive/ full active terminal seaker, dual pulse ramjet motor with tvc (perhaps) . So given tot of Akash basic version to a friendly nation is nothing if you consider larger prospects.

TOT will be only for Akash mostly because most of akash technologies like the igniter for booster and sustainer, propellant grains are being commercialized to our industries

India, Vietnam hold talks on sale of Akash, Brahmos missiles
Subhash Bhamre, MoS in defence ministry says in Parliament India and Vietnam have held discussions on a range of issues regarding the supply of defence equipment

“The committee has submitted its final report in December 2016. An internal committee has been constituted within the ministry to analyse the report, identify the recommendations to be accepted and to frame the key action points as well as a roadmap for their implementation,” he said.

The minister, in reply to another question, said trials on Pinaka rocket were successfully conducted at Integrated Test Range (ITR) Balasore in two phases on 12 and 24 January this year, with the range of 65 km and 75 km, respectively.

The guided version of Pinaka rocket incorporates Inertial Navigation Systems (INS)/ Global Positioning System (GPS) for the mid-course guidance with an accuracy of 60m to 80m at all ranges. Pinaka has been designed and developed for induction into Army after successful user trials. Two regiments of Pinaka unguided version have already been inducted into the Army.

“Current trials have been conducted for demonstrating the feasibility of the development of a guided version of Pinaka rocket using the same launcher and ammunition configuration. In the recent trials conducted, the desired accuracy has been achieved,” Bhamre said.

To a question on whether the air force has a sufficient number of fighter aircraft to maintain its combat edge, he said, it is “adequately equipped” to cater for the threat environment that exists. He said procurement of state-of-art fighter aircraft is on and it includes 36 Rafale jets, Su-30 MKI aircraft while procurement of LCA Tejas has also been approved.

Bhamre also said Advance Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft will be inducted into the Indian Air Force after completion of design and development flight trials and systems evaluation. “Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has fitted into AEW&C various indigenously developed Systems/ Equipment. Complete software for all systems have also been developed indigenously, mostly within DRDO,” he said.

To another question, the minister said, in the past two years, 50,000 bullet proof jackets (BPJ) have been procured for the Indian Army through an Indian manufacturer. Further, the case for procurement of BPJs of quantity 1,86,138 through Capital Route is under Buy (Indian) category.

Vietnam confirms purchase of cruise missiles from India
By Khanh Lynh August 18, 2017 | 10:44 am GMT+7

The world's fastest anti-ship cruise missile will bolster the country's 'peaceful' defense policies.
Vietnam's government has confirmed it has taken delivery of a batch of short-range ramjet supersonic cruise missiles from India.

Foreign ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang said at a press briefing on Thursday that Vietnam is developing defense cooperation with India to allow the country to pursue its defense policies.

“The arms purchase is in line with Vietnam’s peaceful national defense policies aimed at protecting the country,” Hang said.

She said the strategic comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and India is growing in various areas and contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The BrahMos missile was developed by Russia's NPO Mashinostroeyenia and India’s Defense Research and Development Organization. It is the world’s fastest anti-ship cruise missile in operation, traveling at speeds of 3,400-3,700 kilometers per hour.

The three-ton missiles can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land.

India has already supplied patrol vessels to Vietnam and has been providing military training, but the missiles are the first arms trade deal between the two countries.

Details of the value of the deal have not been revealed.

Vietnam is building up its military amid tensions in the disputed East Sea, which is known internationally as the South China Sea. The country has also ordered six Kilo-class diesel-electric submarines from Russia in a deal worth $2 billion. The latest arrived last January.

We should arm vietnam with atomic weapons and ballistic missiles.
It will be regarded as highly destabilizing and proliferating behavior and will encourage Japan, SK also to attain nukes. More than BMs India could bolster Vietnam's naval build up by arming with ASW ships, Joint development of Subs and SAMs

What do they need with ToT? Do they have the industrial base to absorb such ToT? I don't think so.
50 years back Soviets did the same for us. Maybe it's time we should do it for Vietnam.
