Actually, there is a big chance that HAL will screw this up more than the USA or someone else ruining the deal.

If Turkey being a NATO ally can defy the US and start its own ventures with Ukraine's Antonov for the An-178 model, I don't see why we can't.

As you rightly pointed, indian side will sabotage the deal as some arms lobbyist will pay the babu to screw it.
