Apart from MRCA we will be buying 1-2 aircrafts in my opinion

MiG-35s
Gripens to arrest the short fall of the Squadron numbers. I wont be surprised to see the Gripen NG with Kaveri in soon future if we opt to buy that. Saab wont tell a word on that
Million dollar predication! :emot112:

Can't agree anymore...... I really want to see Gripen NG in IAF :angry_1:

dude....replacement doesnt mean just numbers...we are getting better tech so we are replacing it.....
we cant replace a jet with the same tech....for for better tech money has to be splurged....
CAS role doesn't need entire heavy MRCA. It has to be compensated by something else. MRCA is not answer to it.

We don't need MRCA/MKI to do basic role of CAS. Cost of MRCA doesn't go along with simple CAS purpose.

boss, superhornet or older hornet avionics and radar don;t fly the plane---do they?
no sir. they don't.

engine does. both engines failed. engines are the same!!! aren't hey? everyone knows fighters crash all the time(except LCA)
yes but the engines are not the same. you should have checked out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CF-18_Hornet

these are the legacy F-18s of 80s vintage and they differ vastly from SH - which is in the indian contest.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_F/A-18E/F_Super_Hornet

compare both the specs.

the canadians have already phased out many of these and are planning to phase out the rest in the next few years. they plan to get the F-35s.

but wasn't the timing perfect just as the MRCA is being wound up.:emot159:
because of the reasons said above, it has no relevance. timing does not matter.

Typhoon Customers Get New Helmet Mounted Symbology System

The photo above shows BAE Systems test pilot Nat Makepeace wearing the new HMSS helmet for the Eurofighter air display at Farnborough 2010. In July 2010 the UK Royal Air Force, Spanish Air Force, Italian Air Force and the German Luftwaffe began taking delivery of the Helmet Mounted Symbology System (HMSS) which will form a key component of their Eurofighter Typhoon weapon systems.

Like the Bhavana photo, but not the mig-35 order being speculated. After pakfa programme is completed, all su-27, and mig 29 will be replaced from Russian Air Force. and we would be stuck with mig 35, Russians would say, they had done away with the blue prints, no spares and no upgrades. Our media would be reporting mig 35 FLYING COFFIN-2.
hi icebaloon what are you thinking!!!! did u have full knowledge about MRCA Deal??
it also consists of license production of each and every part including AESA radar, execpt US fighters every other fighter is offering it. but only Mig-35 is offering IAF to sale to third customer.......

So much wrong with that post. License production does not consist of "each and every part, including AESA radar." MiG-35 is also not the "only" offering as a third customer, Rafale has been offered as well.

The only contenders that have an operational AESA are F-16, SH-18 and Mig-35. The other contenders have AESA in the developing stages and may be operational well after 2014. Dont know if the establishment can wait till that time since they want to deploy the chosen fighter by 2014-15. If at all they choose a fighter with developing AESA they will have do with the normal radar on board and wait till AESA radar is fully operational.

No wonder they want to buy Mig-35 in govt to govt deal to have some fighters flying with AESA in case other contenders get delayed. So logically they may be going for a fighter which is still developing AESA.

Russia's MiG-35 fighter completely meets Indian tender requirements .
http://en.rian.ru/russia/20100726/159948373.html

The requirements of the tender are quite rigid, but we have already held three evaluation tests, and we believe we have offered an aircraft which entirely corresponds to the tender requirements," Kornyev said.
.
"Of course, the buyers will make the final decision. We are sure that we will participate in this tender until the end, and we hope we will win," Kornyev added.
