The reason for this thread to discuss potential benefits and ramifications if the capital of India was moved from New Delhi to Hyderabad.

There are several benefits to this.

1) the government of India will have greater resilience against Pakistan and China.

2) it would colocated government with the large tech companies attracting greater foreign investment

3) it will further integrate the south and north

4) Hyderabad has a lot of defense contracting, space tech, electronics industry and biotech

5) it’s equidistant to most of India

6) defending the capital means stronger naval prowess. Investing in an offensive and assertive naval power has been the source of Indian wealth in the past

There are several issues as well:

1) existing Infrastructure in Delhi becomes less valuable

2) resentment front Northern states

3) deconstruction of Babu culture

Worst possible idea.

Create a new well planned city without any historical baggage in the middle of India - and start fresh as a capital.

Similar to Canberra, Islamabad, Brasilia.
sure, if not Hyderabad, some other city. But my point still holds. It’s an unexpected move that shakes things up

This idea is a non-starter. No matter where you shift it, even RSS HQ near Nagpur, it will only take 1-2 decades (if not less) for the chaploosis, chamchas, lobbyists, and other elements of the Dilli swamp to set up shop in the new place.

Ambedkar skirted with the idea of Secunderabad being a "backup capital" of India because when India took Hyderabad State from the Nizam, its infrastructure was considered to be generally more advanced than the rest of India, and given the threats Delhi faced from wealthy/powerful Muslim families unhappy with having to go to Pakistan, he felt that the primordial India of the 1950s needed a "fallback" capital that's safe in the Deccan, beyond the Vindhyas. Hyderabad was the UAE of early 20th century.

Hyderabad's infrastructure remains first-rate by Indian standards, and Secunderabad Cantonment remains among India's largest contiguous parcels of urban land owned by the Central Government, however, the need for a second capital (or even shifting it from Delhi), serves little purpose. Middle-class India is 2-3 hours away from Delhi (by air).

Also, when India took Hyderabad State, Delhi gifted itself vast swathes of urban land in and around Hyderabad (besides the Secunderabad and Golconda Cantonments), much of which were jagirs vacated by the Hyderabadi nobles who fucked off to Pakistan or Turkey. Over the decades, Delhi used these lands to set up several Central institutions. This explains why Hyderabad has so many central R&D/defence institutions.

I agree
We should rather focus on some city in centre for strategic data storage , research and development centres , better infra , we can set a administration branch there , but setting up a new city is useless

Reg: Data Storage.

From 2017, all government data is stored across India in a blockchain network that's tamper-proof. So even if you nuke Delhi, 100s of true-copies of government records are scattered across the country. States can opt-in to this network. Some that don't, are usually the ones where there are mysterious fires in government offices right after elections.

Yup make new capital exactly in the middle of nation. Equally distant from north and south , east and west.
So that everyone can reach capital in approximately same time .

Takeover the area of jabalpur along the bank of narmada and surrounding area. Build a great capital with ethos of indian civilization no more mugal landmarks.

Also free Delhi for private industries . Sell all govt land in delhi to raise money for new capital . That way Delhi's overpopulation can be stopped , private sector gets a lots of space with great infrastructure and govt gets a whole lot of money for new capital.

This will also bring economy renaissance in all parts of central India which are as of now economically backward.

Ujjain was the capital of gupta kingdom which was the golden age of India.
Patliputra was capital of mighty Magadh / mouraya empires.

Time for a new capital in central India for a new age .

Also naval power / sea trade is more important for indian prosperity global dominance in coming decades hence capital must shift southwards .

The state where new capital will be located will have its own existing local ecosystem which will be co opted into the capitals eco system.

The career bureaucrats and politicians will continue as it is. You need to fix the career bureaucrats first.

True but building a new capital can start the economic engine of the region where it is build.
There is also the concept of distributed decentralisation where state has multiple capitals to simulate growth in multiple regions.

I think having a capital that is going to be stable is key. There are too many BIF agents near Delhi.

the new capital Should be in the plains but still Should have reasonably cool climate . Two places that come to my mind in my state are nashik and Kolhapur . Both have cool climate . Pune also has cool climate but is already over spread .

Delhi is fine, moving capital will require wastage of lots of money, especially after we have agreed and started the work regarding the central vista in delhi...so it's just a pipe dream.

I don't agree with the idea of central India being safer during wars etc. etc. or can connect with other parts of the country faster, in the era of missiles, hypersonic missiles, some thousand km anymore, about the connectivity part, well we should focus on the the maglev trains, cheap air travel means anyone can go from south to north, east to west with minimum sum required and with min time, with further work in regard to rail / road / air setup we can almost make this issue of 'connectivity' inconsequential.

Rest of the white noises of 'muh religion' 'muh bootlickers' these will prop up anywhere, changing the capital won't solve this, for issues related to 'muh religion' you need to strengthen your intelligence agencies, give them ability to act swiftly, with backed up police....lobbying is eternal thing, you can't change that...

Delhi was fine until it became a state in 1991. Situation started worsening from then with succesive Congress governments. Then in 2013, came Kejru. Things went from ICU to gutter.
Right now Delhi is a hub of urban naxals, wokes, liberandus, jihadis, congis, arms dalals, liberal media and what not.

Problem with liberal media is that even if 10 people gather at Shaheen Bag to protest and abuse the Government, they make it a national issue.

Also, a simple proposal to built a new Parliament building very near to old building, to cater to increase in MPs is being met with such a hue and cry from the Congis and urban liberandus.

An astronomically expensive idea of shifting the capital is proposed by the current Government, the Congis and and urban liberandus will run riot across the whole country.

Problem lies with the liberal rot that has set in the bureaucracy, police, educational institutions media, judiciary and what not. This rot hasd spread like wildfire with the advent of social media.

A serious government with 10-15 years of sustained could have countered this cancerous rot, which is slowly eating away the basic values of Indian society and the fabric of the nation.

However, very liitle effort have been put by Modi to counter this rot. He couldn't even control the rot inside the bureaucracy.

Feels like a lot of complaining and putting down solutions. Bitching won’t stop BIF, executing quickly without getting pushed around is key. Increase the velocity so the BIF gets disoriented on what’s it’s complaining about

I'm starting to think most of the ecosystem people are lurking in DFI hunting for materials to write

From Ramachandra Guha's new article about how apaprently Modi will now make and create new cities named after himself.
