Weary with the one-party system run by the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), most Chinese have identified democracy and equality as the most important values, an official survey said.

A bluebook-- analysing Chinese society was published by the state-run Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS)-- said more than 40 per cent of respondents think that equality and democracy are the most important values that contribute to a good society.

The book included a poll asking people to choose certain social values that they think are necessary for a good society among the 19 choices offered.

The poll surveyed more than 10,206 people in 31 regions.

It found that equality, democracy, justice, civilised behaviour, prosperity and harmony were widely seen as the most important values, with over 40 per cent of respondents saying that these elements are necessary for a good society, state- run Global Times reported.

The results appeared significant as they demonstrated the fatigue over the oneparty system administered by the CPC and arrests of hundreds of officials for corruption and abuse of power in the latest crackdown.

The survey found that those who chose democracy tended to be better educated.

Over 47 per cent of urban residents said democracy was important, while only 37.8 per cent of rural residents chose this option.

Respondents with a college or other higher education degree tended to favour democracy over other social values.

White collar workers, government employees, company managers and students think most highly of democracy, the poll said, while working class and rural respondents tended to select justice as being more important for society.

In addition to democracy, equality was also widely chosen as the most important societal value by individuals born after 1990, according to the CASS report.

Well, those western media never stop dreaming that since 1949.

Chinese people are not stupid like those Western media think.
We know what is the" democracy " they are talking about and how does it works to most of "democracy" countries.

"And while China's economy continues to become more capitalistic, the Chinese definitely do not think America and the West have it all figured out politically or economically, especially not after the 2008 financial crisis. "

Good Economic / Financial growth of China, that is good / positive part as a nation.

But no political freedom / one party dictator ship, that is bad / dark side of China.

There will never be democracy in China. If there was, China would not remain unified as a state. It will always be a party dictatorship. If China were a democracy it would fall apart, like the Soviet Union. China is an empire not a country and like all empires the moment people get their freedom they want to break away from the empire. Or it works the other way round, the moment they break away from the empire the people want their freedom and democracy. China either under the CCP or KMT was always a one-party dictatorship, and if China is to remain intact as a single state, always will be.

You just think in the way that most Westerners follow. You won't understand Chinese culture unless you live here for a long time. Most of those democratic-fighter in China are seen as trolls for they always complain without making meaningful contribution to the society, and the Westerners take these words as weapons to attack China. The biggest threat to China is not America, but those "puppet", which refers those who have no strategic knowledge and are easy to be tricked into so-called "democracy mania". If this situation continues, China will break apart and become several mini-India.

As previously stated, China either under the CCP or KMT, either as the PRC or the ROC, was always a one-party dictatorship, and if China is to remain unified as a single national state, always will be. The only way democracy can be introduced into China is through civil war and China breaks apart into separate states, some of which may adopt democracy.

And the good news for the CCP is that the majority of Chinese don't want democracy and are content to live under the party dictatorship of the CCP as long as the CCP can make the PRC a rich and powerful state. The overwhelming majority of Chinese in the PRC are not democrats and are happy to see destroyed any opposition to the CCP. The fact is that the CCP has popular support. And after generations of indoctrination, it could hardly be otherwise.

As an Indian, what do you care about Chinese democracy.

There won't be any change on Chinese foreign policy even under this democracy.

How do you know?? Foreign policy is ALWAYS linked to the type of government.

Taiwan ROC is NOT adversarial to India. Taiwan ROC is not supplying weapons to Pakistan.

The fact is your conclusion is plain wrong.

Are you sure?
This ROC is claiming more land from India than PRC does!
This ROC is claiming even bigger south China sea than PRC does!
This ROC doesn't supply weapons to Pakistan because she can't!
Don't forget the leader of democratic world--U.S.A is supplying Pakistan!

The fact is your conclusion is plain wrong.
The fact is you know nothing about international politics!

Why do you think China will break apart if it transforms into a democracy? I think you're just afraid of the unknown. India is a much more diverse country than China, yet manages to stay together as a democracy. I don't think any Indians ever fear that the country might break apart in the future regardless of any problems with internal militancy, secessionist movement or tribal conflicts, of which there have been many.

As long as the state guarantees representation including freedom and diversity of opinion, this gives the common man a voice and a stake in preserving the system. Hence a democratic form of government is the most stable-there are very few examples in which people vote to go from a representative democracy to a dictatorship (the Nazis being the most famous exception).

Actually the Nazis are not an exception. Hitler seized power by making the Reichstag unworkable with his substantial minority in the Reichstag and engineering himself into power by manipulating other political parties in a backroom deal. The National Socialists never received more than 37 per cent of the national vote in Reichstag elections in Weimar Germany and never achieved anything near a majority vote.

This is a map of the territorial claims of the Republic of China. Presumably, the People's Republic of China maintains the same or very similar claims. This map does not show waters claimed by the ROC as territorial waters or waters over which the ROC claim sovereignty. This map has been displayed several times in various threads on this forum. I've been unable to find any similar map showing the territorial claims and disputes on and along the PRC's entire borders.

Are you opining that our Chinese posters are thugs.

They have, on many occasions, ridiculed democracy and have indicated that it is not good for China.

China is an empire, always was, always will be. But like all empires, it is fragile.

What leads to the conclusion that those in China who want democracy are 'trolls'? Maybe they are. So, could you elaborate with reasoning?

Actually, those who believe in democracy, in turn, feels that those who toe the Communist Party line are the actual 'puppets' and are in the grip of 'mind control'.

One wonders which of the opinion is right.

To be frank, it is a myth that all of China is Han. It is not and instead they have been made Han by the process of cultural and ethnic genocide through the process of Sinicisation over history and which is still being pursued in Tibet and Xinjiang.

Yes, if free and independent thoughts are allowed in China, there is a good chance it will break up.

Already it is in the throes of your tongue in cheek comment, 'mini India'. I allude to Tibet and Xinjiang, more so the latter.
