While outlining the shortcomings in the present organisational set up, Col Faujdar highlighted the following key areas:

"¢ The present personal weapon is outdated in design and performance. A 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle and Light Machine Gun still has shortcomings.

"¢ The night-fighting capability is limited in sections/platoons/companies.

"¢ Present support weapons are very heavy and bulky.

"¢ The surveillance capability with the Infantry battalions is very limited.

"¢ The existing anti-tank resources are prone to jamming and errors.

"¢ The Infantry battalions lack tactical mobility.

"¢ Water crossing expedients are not made available to an Infantry soldier.
sir you have mentioned that our anti tank weapons are prone to jamming
can you pls brief our anti tank resources
can our tanks jam anti tank missiles

Afaik, Infantry use wire guided line of sight ATGM, If tank use smoke screen you cannot hit the tank..

There are other measures too i am unaware of..

The 'bayonet strength' of a rifle section should be preserved. In a single section, there should at least be 6-7 persons available for launching an assault on the enemy.

The most critical issue.

With the induction of new weapons and employing them with the same manpower ceiling of an infantry battalion, it is being done at the expense of what is known as the 'bayonet strength'.

I have asked many personnel, officers and PBOR how they manage and all I have got is what they call 'ain' (nasal tone) 'wain' (nasal tone) replies. Neither here nor there.

Who are the contenders in Indian Army Standard Issue Assault Rifle bid? Is DRDO FINSAS rifle ready to compete world class ARs?
Who are the contenders competing for the 44k CQB carbine bid? Any news?

One wonders what in exact terms has to be the transformation of the Infantry from Threat Based to Capability Based.

Or will it be merely an exercise in English like Jointmanship?

Modernisation, one cannot deny is necessary, but then acquiring weapons without increase in the unit manpower and working out a commensurate organisational structure is merely making the infantry but multitasked manpack mules. losing out on the raison d'etre - bayonet strength at the objective end!

Sir, the present modernization emphasis on few major points :

1. accuracy
2. heavy firepower
3. Light weight
4. Communication & electronics
5. Enhance awareness

I doubt they intent to increase numbers ..

These parameters are as old as Mohenjodaro.

The issue are:

What are the section weapons?

How is the Section organised?

What are the new weapons inducted and who carries what?

How does that affect the bayonet strength?

The Inf is to get mini UAVs.

Who will operate that and where will the manpower come from?

There are many questions that arise regarding addition of weaponry and its effect on the organisational structure, and thereby the fighting prowess which basically, in real terms, means capturing an objective and holding on to it.

Slogans and English won't do.

What does More means Less?

Sounds nice, means nothing!

Same as before just more advance..

I assume no change & Same way no major change..

The Inf is to get mini UAVs.

Mini UAV operators will be consist of two men extra, these men may not be a permanent part of a squad but as optional option in special needs..

Sir, i doubt there will be any addition of new weapon system but same weapons more advance and more importantly lighter yet with more ammo..

One thing might change is the ammo carry capacity may increase individually..

Sure?

Check again.

So what happens then about making things light for the infantry man?
