We have a shortage of DMR rifles. The Dragunovs are at most 7000-8000 no. which IA wants to modernize. SSS Defence has come up with a upgrade package. However, still they are low in number. I feel that retired SLRs can be given a fresh lease of life by a upgrade package. There are more than a million+ no. manufactured by OFB.. The SLR is a reliable and accurate weapon system which can shoot upto a distance of 800 m(effectively) (with scope). It can serve as a good DMR option. Can serve both Army and CAPF as a low cost option.

Below is an upgraded FN FAL from DS Arms (USA). May be SSS defence can come up with something similar.

Americans use CSASS, we should also, its a good rifle.

Yes the CSASS is an intended replacement of the M110A1 as a DMR option. The contract is being given to H&K to supply their modified version of their G-28 rifle(variant of 7.62 caliber HK417).

Other way round. M110A1 is intended to replace the SASS.

Indian camo sticks out like a sore thumb and does not seem adapted to the environment. At least based on what I've seen posted here. Is there any push to domestically fabricate better camo?

Before there was Ghatak and TAR rifle, in the mid 2000s OFB came up with AK 7. It saw some action with Para SF. However, it was not widely adopted.

It was this rifle that Mikhael Kalashnikov while visiting an arms show where it was displayed, threatened to file a IPR infringement case.

Little known fact:

Before the mass production of Bren LMG which bagan in Ishapore in 1942, there was another LMG which was produced there. This was the Vickers Berthier LMG. It was designed by a Frenchman, and marketed by Vickers armstrong limited which was a British engineering conglomerate. The production of Vickers-Berthier in Ishapore ran between 1933-1942 for the British Indian army and used in early days of WW2 against the Japanese. It was chambered in .303 or 7.7*56 mm round.

I have been calling it an Arsenal AR for so long. I was wrong this whole time.

The reason why I am asking is this, Arsenal SAM7UF-85 (Semi Auto Civilian Firearm)

But what we use also has a full auto mode.

Meanwhile Arsenal AR

Arsenal AR-F

With 45Deg gas block unlike above all with 90deg
But I can't see any gas regulator anywhere

Damn, this is so confusing.

SLRs are still in service with the army and CAPFs. It is still in limited series production in the OFB and time to time some orders come from state police and CAPFs.

SLR 1C is full auto and it used along LOC.

SLR with CRPFs in Naxal belt. Notice the muzzle break.

This one looks very new

In a DMR role with optics

Upgraded with picatiny rails and bipod and optics

We have a huge inventory of SLR of million+. It deserves a re-look as a low cost DMR option, since army has become interested in 7.62 NATO caliber assault rifles as its primary infantry weapon. What is required is a deep upgrade like Dragunov upgrade) of some of them from FAB Defence/ SSS defence. Example (from DS Arms):
