Lol the word "standardized pattern" is akin to calling the Virgin Mary a virgin.
No sir, I mean all the units have same working uniform across ranks and services, though exceptions exist like Armoured guys wear Black fatigues. If one unit starts to wear a digital camo, would'nt they stand out among the crowd which wears woodland pattern? That's wat I was thinking.
Now Dogra regt was seen with MARPAT woodland camo and rest of troops across regiments don't wear it. Would'nt it be awkward to have different units with different working uniforms? By Standardisation I meant a standard field uniform for all like we have now.
Though I support having same uniform with different hues for different enivironments like Desert MARPAT for our forces deployed in arid regions and woodland MARPAT for those in humid regions.

Yes in theory there is standard kit. But for reality just look at our soldiers in Kashmir

Army chief’s new experiment — Major General is CEO of AK-203 rifle factory in Amethi
Published July 5, 2019 | By admin SOURCE: THE PRINT

http://idrw.org/category/india/ .

The central government has appointed a Major General of the Indian Army as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Korwa Ordnance Factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district, which will manufacture AK-203 assault rifles for the military under an Indo-Russia joint venture.

Sources told The Print this is the first time in decades that a uniformed officer will head a factory which comes under the Ordnance Factory Board. The move, they said, is the brainchild of Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, and the government accepted it as an experiment. Major General Sanjeev Sengar has been appointed as CEO of the Korwa factory for a four-year period, and will head a team which will feature a few other serving officers.

The Army has been concerned over low quality and delivery problems when it comes to ordnance factories’ products, so if this new model for the AK-203 factory is successful, it might just pave the way for a new set-up to oversee such factories.

A significant venture

When the joint venture, called the Indo-Russia Rifles Private Limited, was formed earlier this year under the Make in India initiative, the idea was to have an Indian CEO from the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB).

The OFB has a 50.5 per cent stake in the venture, Kalashnikov owns 42 per cent and Rosoboronexport owns 7.5 per cent.

The Russian AK-203 rifle, chambered to fire 7.62×39 mm ammunition (same as the AK-47), is expected to meet the Indian Army’s requirement for 6.5 lakh assault rifles.

This is in addition to the rifles ordered from US manufacturer SIG Sauer in January.

The new guns will replace the 5.56×45 mm INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifles, which have been in use for over two decades.

The three services are set to spend at least Rs 12,000 crore to equip their personnel with modern rifles and light machine guns.

Incidentally, while every Indian soldier carries the INSAS rifle, the Army has a concept of sector stores, under which those operating in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast are given AK-47s instead of the INSAS.

It was to happen, OFB asked for this move or rather compelled the govt to take this step and I hope that the this scourge in the form of IOFS is done away with slowly and gradually or even drastically by posting them to Arunachal Pradesh.

The taste of pudding is in eating. And so far the pudding cooked by IOFS has been sour and even went poisonous when they created a deliberate massive deficiency of ammunition jeopardising Security of India.

They all should start looking for forced pensionary discharge. Modi govt is going to reach them too. If Army commanders whose posts were attacked can be asked to go home why not IOFS when an accident occurs in ammunition produced in their factories.

I think there are a lot of feathers are going to be ruffled, unless the major general is very very very cool headed guy.

But it’s in Indian army’s interest that this experiment succeeds.

Labour unions can be managed, provided the management knows how to handle them. Keeping in mind all unions are not bad as they are projected to be, infact I am a proponent of this worker’s union concept.

Can a major general who probably never had a case of insubordination in his life, handle the union. Union chaps do all sort s of things when they want to piss off somebody.

One possibility can be to make sure it is a BJP backed union and not congress or communist backed union. Communist backed union will never want this experiment to succeed. With a BJP backed union, there is a chance for other avenues of negotiations.

Will we get any optics with ak-203. I feel that we must get ourselves something like to the ratnik gear or those south Korean ones since we seem to be unable to standardise things here.

You are absolutely right.

I think it is in our genetic characteristics to weaken our security apparatus for gaining personal influence, power and status by any means including letting down those who manage the security structure. Conspiracies are more prominent in our narratives of social structures than wise judgemental temperaments.

Otherwise why would Kautilya Arthashastra would be filled with advices to the king specifically as how to appoint and control his "Senapati" and other military commanders. Indian history is replete with the instances of conspiracies against the Military Commanders by the Council and Ministers of the king for example the Rajput, Sikh or Maratha history.

India's MoD is a buzzing example today. There are all likelihood of this Major General facing lots of problems as the factory would be under OFB and Deptt of Defense Production. Unless they wish him success things are going to be difficult.

I wish him the very best.

Would an army man understand and know Quality Control in a factory? It seems like the job of Quality Experts

CEO needs to manage man, material and output. quality control in an indirect association for CEO, there would be a GM in between.
it's experimental anyways.

Its been 20 years since Kargil and the massive deficits in equipment identified 20 years ago are only now being filled (Artillery, MMRCA, rifles, BPJS, etc.). This state of affairs is pathetic.

Quality Control Organisation of MoD called DGQA is essentially a Services organisation headed by an Army Lt Gen with very many Brigs, Col and Lt Cols as quality Controllers and about more than 40 per cent civilian Officers.

Another organisation that has not measured upto desired standards.

I hope the Maj Gen kicks the OFB asses in their butts and ensures quality ! More importantly OFB heads should roll if there is any future AK203 malfunction .

40,000 indigenous bulletproof jackets supplied to Indian Army

The Indian Army has been supplied 40,000 indigenous bulletproof jackets for its troops carrying out anti-terror operations in the Kashmir valley.

"We are hopeful that we will deliver the order of bulletproof jackets for the Army well ahead of time," said Major-General Anil Oberoi (Retd) of SMPP Pvt Ltd, which has developed these indigenous bulletproof jackets.

"In the first year, we were supposed to supply 36,000 jackets but we are ahead of time and we have supplied 40,000 jackets to Indian Army," he said talking to ANI here on Friday.

"We have to complete this order by 2021, but we are hopeful to complete it by the end of 2020," he said.

Last year, the Ministry of Defence had awarded the contract to provide more than 1.8 lakh bulletproof jackets to the indigenous manufacturer SMPP Limited.

The jackets are being supplied to the Central Ordnance Depot in Kanpur from where they will be sent to Jammu and Kashmir and other violence-affected areas.

Oberoi claimed that the bulletproof jackets can withstand hardcore steel ammunition fired from an AK-47 rifle. "Our jackets are so strong that they can take on the most dangerous ammunition from AK-47. It is known as the hard steel core ammunition which has got great penetrative power. Our jacket can absorb its impact," he said.

"We have also produced helmets that can protect soldiers against AK-47 hard steel core ammunition. It will also have a facial visor. We will save the life of our soldier from head to toe," Oberoi said.

Oberoi informed that the company's helmets were already in use various armed forces in India namely the Central Reserve Police Force. (ANI)

We need to Adopt A Unique Camo that is not found in the Region like Flecktarn used by Germany. Flecktarn is Found even Superior to the US Multi-Cam. Flecktarn would be excellent Camo for the Indian Army to be used in the field. The Current Camo used by the Army looks like it’s from the Vietnam War Era from Late 1900s.

Not really. .... Germans have not sent troops outside its borders for the last 80 years. Their experience is not a role model.

As you say the Vietnam War camo is too old. I say it is not bad as it saw field experience for 15 years in Jungle warfare.
