We Should Allow Private Indian companies To Make Their Products In every Field Including small arms
Thataastu !!!!!

Done, policy approved three months back.

Now it's up to army/forces to decide exactly what they want, which has been the problem from the start.

India now certainly is capable of producing rifles and ammunition and all kinds of world class goodies for a soldier at home without any kind of external help. So, we are now self reliant in terms of small arms and soldier system, I guess.

Are the helmets being used and the ones being ordered bulletproof? How good our helmets are compared to ones used by US, Russia, China etc?

The helmet that this soldier is wearing, Is it made of clothes or does it have metal as well(painted perhaps)?

MKU is kanpur based Indian company which is a world class company , it supplies helmets & other equipment to NATO & US army ..............at present these helmets are not delivered to Indian Army .

Patka used by Indian army provides more safety but these Helmets are Lightweight and more comfortable for soldiers .

helmet that this soldier is wearing is called Patka , it is bulletproof & just covered by cloths ...............it can stop 7.62 mm rounds too ...........which Nato helmets can not stop ...............

Army needs to modernize entire outfit. God how ugly. From head-to-toe. New helmets (international standard - domestic manufacture). New uniform (digitize the thing). Issue standard gear to all soldiers.

But the Patka does not cover the entire head, back of the neck and head is exposed, a shot over there is gonna be fatal. On the other hand MKU produces lightweight, 9mm bullet proof and boltfree helmets with loads of attachments possible to it plus it covers entire head.

The tin buckets used in Army also provide the same protection ..

========================

Army is not buying these MKU helmet for all round protection in CT areas, But specifically for holding multiple attachments and truma protection ..

Which helmet, the MKU one or the one that you showed above ?
MKU helmets doesnot provide all round protection. It is effective only against 9mm pistol rounds. But PATKA are effective against 7.62 rounds. The only positive of MKUs are against the trauma and neck region safety. Another plus point is its provision for attachment like NVD, IR, CAM like wise. Although PATKA could also provide the same, but MKUs are better for this purpose. So if you see someone crying about our Jawans not having western cool looking helmets, then remember that any average Jawan under normal circumstance would go for PATKA.

Why don't we give importance to aesthetics ? I mean modern NATO and Russian Troops are not fools to wear new modern and sophisticated state of the art (cool looking) gear. Apart from being highly efficient, the aesthetics would be a huge moral booster for the troops and moral reducer for enemies.

Moral boosts comes from practical design rather then aesthetics. Why you think INSAS does have that ugly looking suitcase like wooden handle? It could have something cool like M16 handle.
Moreover talking about aesthetics, have a look at two of the pics below. Which you think looks better aesthetically?

It's time for retired officers who are coming in media debates to start informing the public about the requirements of ground troops. Few more weeks and people will get back to their lives, they should come up with a better way to inform people.

Them explaining is much better than journos and TV anchors explaining things to the people.

From what I read in online articles, it does not seem like any helmet provides actual protection against bullets as its purpose is mainly to protect a soldier's head from knocks and falls and from shrapnels, ricochets etc.

If PATKA's were that good as being stated why isn't any other army using it or testing something similar? Even army's of third world countries are equipping themselves with Kevlar helmets.IMO the only reason that PATKA has stuck with our forces is, it being cheaper alternative to costly Kevlar helmets like PASGT or OR-201.

IA also does make use of MKH/PA-1 which is PASGT type Kevlar helmet, but in limited number. You might have even noticed that when it comes to body armour, IA uses much less armour then compared to most of the world armies. For example have you ever seen elbow, knee or groin armour with any regular IA? But these are the must with any regular armed forces in US or some other country. Even the IA who are deployed on UN missions are equipped with MKH but not with other body armour.
Body armour does provide you with safety from rounds, but on other side, it restricts your basic body movements and this doesn't go well with performance of IA. No armed forces in world does operate in a versatile weather and geographical location like IA does. So more then being cheap, its the lightest of armour around which does protect armed forces from some very deadly rounds.
