Speed**** — Data transfer rates of up to 20 MB/sec. read and 10 MB/sec. write

yes that is a big problem. work is going on to come out with new USB interface with much faster speeds, 2 to 5 Gigabits per sec. that should solve a problem.

IBRIS, it costs 900$. Considering its speed, and price, nobody will purchase it. but coming out with pen drive storing so many gbs itself is a big news.

They went from 64 to 256 GB in no time. SSDs are at 320 GB and Hard Drives are still at 2 TB.

Hard Drive prices have been falling at lot lately. we can get 1 TB Drive at less than 5000 Rs. thats just 5 Rs per gigabyte compared to 100 Rs per GB for Pen drives.

OCZ to launch 1 Terabyte Colossus SSD
1TB SSD Drive Coming Soon, for a Price - PC World
Memory maker OCZ has confirmed it will launch a new 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD) that will fit 3.5-inch drive slots later this month. Various gadget sites have been reporting on the rumors of the launch, and now the company confirmed that the 1TB Colossus SSD drive will be available in mid-August. Also confirmed: the drive will cost a whopping $2200.

Unveiled last month at the Computex expo in Taipei, OCZ's 1TB Colossus SSD drive is indeed colossal. The drive weighs 14 ounces, but is compact enough to fit into a standard 3.5-inch drive bay. Laptop users will have to wait for a smaller version, though.

OCZ's Colossus drive doesn't come cheap either. With a $2200 price tag attached, the 1TB SSD drive claims read speeds of up to 250MB/s and write speeds of 220MB/s over a SATA2 interface.

But if you don't want to re-mortgage your house for the 1TB Colossus drive, OCZ will also launch less pricey, lower capacity models. For $300, you'll be able to get a 120GB version, $650 will get you a 250GB model, and $1200 will get the 500GB model, the company says.

OCZ also launched in April a similar 1TB SSD drive offering, but in a smaller form factor (with better writing speeds) and a bigger price of $3000.

SSD drives can deliver faster data access and lower power consumption over traditional Hard Disk Drives (HDD) But like in this case, the price for such a drive can be prohibitive for many users. So until SSDs will retail for a much lower price, don't expect the death of the HDD just yet.

looks like Hard Drives days are numbered.

Hitachi claimed that they can bring out 5 TB HDD by 2010. So lets see what happens.

Hitachi ships first 2TB 7200rpm hard drive
Hitachi ships first 2TB 7200rpm hard drive
One of the things that a computer user will never complain about having too much of is storage. Notebook hard drives only recently hit the 1TB capacity, but 1TB hard drives are nothing new for desktop users.

What is new for desktop users is the 2TB hard drive that Hitachi announced today. The drive is the Deskstar 7K2000 and is the first drive in the industry to hit 2TB at 7200 rpm. The drive uses five platters and takes advantage of perpendicular magnetic recording to reach the capacity. Hitachi does make 500GB platters, so I am not sure why it opted to not reach 2TB with only four platters.

The huge storage capacity and 7200 rpm speed doesn’t mean the drive can’t be energy efficient. Hitachi claims that the new 2TB drive offers a 10% reduction in idle power consumption compared to previous generation drives (this may be a clue about why there are five platters rather than four). The Deskstar 7K2000 also features a 32MB cache and uses the 3Gb/s SATA interface. Hitachi was mum on details like pricing and estimated ship date -- though it says the hard drives are "now shipping". In hard drive industry parlance, though, that could mean Hitachi has shipped a few nominal sample drives to someone and it will be months until the drives are actually readily available at retail.

Wristwatch Gaming Gadget that Uses Motion Capture Technology

Over the past several years, devices got smaller and handier. If you need evidence, simply observe this particular hand-held video game/wristwatch.

The device is called "Samsung WM". It has earbugs and pen, both clipping instinctively into the gadget's back panel.

Because the gadget has a flexible screen, the user can attach the device to their wrist and wear it as a slap-bracelet popular back in the 1980s.

Samsung WM boasts a large screen and control that takes advantage of the new motion-capture technology - you can play games using thumbs and feet. Besides there's also a camera in the back that helps you see the motions of the thumbs and feet.

Futuristic GO Concept Cell Phone

Let's not talk about iPhone killers, simply because this is getting old. It would be much more interesting to talk about new concepts, new ideas and talented designers like the ones from the Taiwanese company Tryi Yeh that designed the Go concept cell phone.

The phone really looks stunning, with an incredible flexible OLED touch display. Plus the phone has a sliding body, featuring mode keys and a camera.

Please note that this concept supports different kinds of apply modes. For example, you can use it as an antenna for watching TV.

One more very interesting feature of the phone, though probably made only for the sake of a good design, is the color-changing back. If the phone is red and flashing than the gadget will soon shut down; if it's green, then the phone is 100 percent ready and if it's white then you know that someone's calling.

Honda CB 750 - Electronically Controlled Bike of the Future

This motorcycle concept was developed by Igor Chak. Besides having an impressive futuristic design, which makes the construction of the bike aerodynamic, 2015 Honda CB 750 has a number of advanced features it can boast with.

The frame and body are united in one single piece that is made of carbon fiber, aluminum, and titanium.

The motorcycle has an onboard computer, which the driver can control with the help of a 5-inch OLED multi-touch screen located over the fuel tank.

The screen has three menus: GPS, Drive modes and diagnostics mode. The GPS mode is in fact a standard GPS that provides you the necessary directions etc. It will be connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and 3G. The drive mode has three sections: economy, race and standard, each controlled electronically. The diagnostics mode shows lap times, gas consumption, top speed etc.

In addition, Honda CB 750 includes radar technology that allows the motorcycle to identify a potential head-on collision and automatically slow the bike.

It is worth mentioning that the eco-friendly motorcycle is powered with a 4-cylinder liquid hydrogen engine. There's a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission that includes an electronic lurch and traction control.

You can control almost everything electronically, including the front and rear suspension. A lot of features the driver can disable manually.

The bike has sensors that update the information every 1/10th of a second and able to regulate everything on the fly.

Cheaper Samsung Corby on the Anvil

Techtree News Staff, Dec 18, 2009 1729 hrs IST

Expected to be priced below the Rs 7000 mark

Last time we checked, the Samsung Corby was already an affordable phone. A touchscreen one at that. However, folks at Samsung don't seem to be satisfied with its affordability and want to make it even cheaper. So what they do? They come up with the Samsung Corby Pop!

While the name might make it sound like we're talking about the father of the Corby, in all actuality, the Corby Pop is a stripped down version of the existing Corby. It will be priced below the existing Corby thereby making the phone more affordable.
The Corby Pop will feature FM radio, 1.3MP camera and 22MB of internal memory. The Corby on the other hand has slightly better camera and more internal memory. The screen and other features however remain the same. The Corby Pop is expected to be priced below Rs 7000 Rs mark. There is no word as to when this one will be launched.

Incidentally, Samsung is also readying a better, more feature packed version of the Corby as well as a new version with Wi-Fi.
