If I remember correctly, Proton tried to launch their models in India too. This was the time when Ford Escort was being marketed by Leander Paes and Daewoo and Opel Astra were competing for becoming the next Indian family sedans.

Fizzled out too fast. Pakistan is actually a perfect market for them since they don't have any car manufacturing except some random names of here and there living off tech from foreign automakers.
