The MIG-27 belongs to 222 Sqn (TigerSharks) at Hashimara Air Force base, the cause of the accident is due to engine flame-out during crucial time of take off, unfortunately the pilot Wing Commander Oswald (Ossie) de Abreu was also killed in this accident, he is survived by wife Janice and children Nadia and Nathan, brother Orlando in Taiwan and sisters Claret and Marina in Canada and UK respectively.
The MIG-27 has a history in IAF for engine flameout and crashes ..

they are beating around the bush a lotAnd watch this.................
Mig 27 was available cheap from the Soviet union as India could get Soviet aircraft at cut rate prices before the union dissolved. Jaguar was costlier because it was a western aircraft and we actually had to pay market price for it.they are beating around the bush a lot
generally from what i can gather mig-27 had no real advantages over Jaguar except cost and to diversify their procurement from multiple sources
given how well the su-7 performed for the IAF in 1971, they should have just opted for mig-27 [ cheaper alternative ]and later when they got the Mirage 2000 in mid 80s they could have had a secondary deep penetration strike capability as well.Mig 27 was available cheap from the Soviet union as India could get Soviet aircraft at cut rate prices before the union dissolved. A MiG-23S deploying its braking chute during a landing at Kuopio-Rissala. The Soviet fighter landed within a distance of some 875 yards (800 m), the ventral fin being folded to starboard during the approach which is normally made at 174 mph (280 km/h).
