What's the difference ?Are they different variants ?
Yes, a lot, Mig-21Bis and Bison
Bison is the Indian version of Mig-21-93 with new avionics and with structural changes, the major visible are the Mig-29 style canopy and the flares dispenser on the wing root, the cockpit is different too, the nose cone is grey compared to green on Bis and the serial number start with CU.

Almost the Same. Hard to make out Visual Differences between the two Variants: MIG-21 BISON and MIG-21-23 But I believe the MIG-21 BISON which is Operated by The Indian airforce is the Most Advanced Version presently in The World.

Mig-21-93 is also a testbed for the evolution of the upgrades on the aircraft eg Phazotron Osa phased array radar, but remember Mig-21Bison also has French element like Sextant Topflight navigation suit.

see the wing root flare wasn't there in the early model as well.
