How does India acknowledge Christmas? Obviously they wouldn't celebrate it.
I am a Orthodox-Christian from Kerala, I dont understand why Hindus celebrate it(?).

Because we live in a secular country and celebrate not only Christmas, but Eid and a lot of other festivals too. India is no Pakistan, if you didn't knew it before.

/\/\/\ You don't understand why Hindus celebrate it? I was born and raised a Hindu. In my circle of friends were Christians(mainly) and Muslims. They would celebrate Sankranti/Pujas with me, and I would celebrate Eid, Christmas with them. Religious harmony and cultural upbringing to embrace other religions as one of our own.

Merry Christmas to all.

But more importantly, who is the girl in the first post?

Well, Oracle has already shared the real reason.
Every Indian kid, of any religion, looks forward to Christmas, not really for Biblical reasons, but simply for the "Santa-Clause" factor, and the gifts.

On the other hand, we are a country to likes who celebrate, for every random reason. Be it the festivities of religion, or actresses having babies, or Rakhi Sawant getting married. :D
So you see, we can't really be kept apart from celebrations.

I'm Hindu, but my family has celebrated Christmas and Id with the same delight as that in Holi or Diwali. And so it is for almost everyone.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Here's something from some Gora's who've made Hyderabad their home:

And a very own girl from Mumbai singing Christmas carols. Don't worry, those are stockings : ) :

And a favorite Christmas song of mine:

Merry Christmas India! We love you.

I remember "Joy to the World". I loved that song.
I studied in a Convent for a couple of years and we used to sing this with the Orchestra every Christmas.

Good ol' days, them.

India is the birthplace of two of the greatest religions of the world: Hinduism and Buddhism !! Islam has been been practiced in India for nearly 1300 years ! The world's biggest democracy has been living in communal harmony among all religions even before your country and most of the new world was born, my friend ! We Indians celebrate Diwali ,Eid, Gurunanak Jayanti and Christmas will equal enthusiasm, no matter which religion we belong to. If you wanna check, try visiting any church in India during Christmas, if you ever come down here during that period, you will understand better. You seriously, don't know a thing about India and its people and surely have a lot to learn.

A prayer that I prayed for 10 years of my school life:

Sign of the Cross

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be
Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done,
on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we
forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Merry Christmas All!!!

FIRTSLY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YA!

@Armand-You obviously have a lot to learn about Indians , WE LOVE FESTIVALS! and it pays off take me for instance.
I went to celebrate Bakr-Id at the residence of one of my subordinates at work , you won't believe the fun i had also the delectable Muttton biryani and mutton curry helped!hehehehe

I shall be going later tonight to a christmas party santa time; great music getting together with friends and having great christmas cake!

see secularism and clebrating festivals adds up to a lot of fun ;trust me on this one.:happy_2:

Anyhoo as far as christianity in india is concerned St Thomas the apostle established the syrian malabari nasrani church in india in AD52, the roman ctholic church was officially estasblished only in AD382 how's that for food for thought!

Secularism has nothing to do with it, correct term would probably be Syncretism

(You're telling a french guy about secularism ? :emot0:)
