I wonder what these parts are?
passive SMT components?
PCB?
Speakers?
Battery assembly?
plastic/glass/metal casings for phones?
screen assembly?
I hope all of these and more :) 500 acres is humungous size for a component manufacturing plant so I hope they are going big bang.

700 Larne jobs threatened as Caterpillar migrates manufacturing to India

HUNDREDS of highly-skilled workers at Caterpillar's plant in Larne are set to lose their jobs over the next year as the US manufacturing giant migrates some of its manufacturing function to low-cost overseas locations like India.

As many as 700 production, support and management positions will be impacted after the company opened a 90-day consultation process to restructure its electric power division operations in Northern Ireland.

Caterpillar, which commands global sales of around $55 billion, says the decision supports its ongoing plan to better utilise existing capacity and improve cost competitiveness, though it stressed the move wasn't as a result of Covid-19 or Brexit.

The Unite union's regional officer George Brash said: “This is a scandalous decision geared only to increase further the company’s corporate profits and outsource production to India.

Japan lures 2 firms from China to India: As global supply chains shift, India needs to grab its opportunity

According to the latest reports, the Japanese government has struck a deal with two companies – Toyota-Tsusho and Sumida – which will see it offer financial assistance to shift their manufacturing bases out of China to India, under a recent subsidy-based programme to reduce the nation's supply-chain reliance on China. The announcement followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with global investors yesterday where he reiterated his intent to transform India into a global manufacturing hub in the coming years.

My company was providing IT outsourcing to Caterpillar and we had our resources working in their Shanghai plant. But last year Shanghai council made many policy changes for foreign companies operating there. This threw out 90% of their non-chinese workforce out of china.
It great news for us that they are moving their operation from other countries to India.

Companies are accelerating plans to produce lithium-ion cells in the country, hoping to take advantage of ₹18,000 crore worth of government subsidies announced last month, two people directly aware of the developments said.

The production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme announced by the Union government could spur these companies to start local manufacturing of lithium-ion cells in the next couple of years, the people said, requesting anonymity.

Tata Chemicals Ltd is likely to soon start building a manufacturing facility for lithium-ion cells in Gujarat, said the people cited above. The Tata group company is likely to seek incentives under the PLI scheme and may also export cells from India, the people said, adding that the company has acquired land for the proposed facility in the Dholera region of Gujarat.

The second person said automotive and industrial battery manufacturers such as Exide Batteries and Amara Raja may also diversify into lithium-ion cell manufacturing to qualify for the PLI scheme. “Most of these manufacturers have already shared their plans to get into lithium-ion battery manufacturing in India and the PLI scheme will definitely propel them to get into cell manufacturing in the coming years. Most manufacturers with plans to get into this new sector were waiting for the government to come up with this scheme," the person said.

JUST IN: Ola announces plans to set up scooter factory in Tamil Nadu. Signs MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu with investment of Rs 2400 crore. Will create 10,000 jobs and have an annual capacity of 2 million units.
@Guidance_TN

Hope they don't end up making Yulu like electric 'bikes' and pass them off as scooters for point-2-point commuting or last mile commuting.

Ather electric scooters are pretty good though a little steeply priced. Let's see if Ola follows their footsteps too.

Sad incident at world's largest vaccine producer, Serum Institute of India. Five people die in fire, vaccine unit not affected. 5 workers on an under construction building killed. These kind of incidents are happening too often, not to notice, in chemical, steel, construction and pharma units.

'Atmanirbhar' Amazon announces first device manufacturing line in India

The device manufacturing programme will be able to produce hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick devices every year.

E-commerce giant Amazon has announced its plans to begin manufacturing Amazon Devices in India. This is the first Amazon manufacturing line in India and reiterates the firm’s commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ for an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The company did not disclose the amount it proposes to invest.

Amazon will commence its manufacturing efforts with contract manufacturer Cloud Network Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn in Chennai and start production later this year. The device manufacturing programme will be able to produce hundreds of thousands of Fire TV Stick devices every year, catering to the demands of customers in India. Amazon will continuously evaluate scaling capacity to additional marketplaces and cities depending on the domestic demand.

“Amazon is committed to partner with the Indian government to advance the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” said Amit Agarwal, global senior vice president and country leader for Amazon India. “We have pledged to invest $1 billion to digitise 10 million small and medium businesses, help Indian businesses sell worldwide thereby enabling $10 billion in cumulative exports, and create an additional 1 million jobs by 2025.

Agarwal on Tuesday briefed Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, Government of India on the details of the initiative.

Prasad said in a series of tweets that India is an attractive investment destination and is poised to become a major player in the global supply chain in the electronics and IT products industry. He said the Government’s decision to launch a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme has received a tremendous response globally.

“We welcome Amazon’s decision to set up a manufacturing line in Chennai, as it will enhance domestic production capacities, and create jobs as well,” said Prasad. “This will further our mission of creating an Atmanirbhar Bharat which is digitally empowered.”

Prasad said he asked Amazon to help in taking products made by India’s artisans and Ayurvedic products to global markets through eCommerce Platform. In addition, he suggested the ecommerce giant develop a few villages in India and develop them as fully digital villages as part of the IT ministry's digital village programme. "Amazon should also work with small local shops and make them a stakeholder in the larger efforts of Amazon to grow its business," he added.

In 2020 Amazon announced the ‘Local Shops on Amazon’, a programme that retailers and local shops be Atmanirbhar, and benefit from selling online. It now has over 22,000 neighbourhood stores registered across the country gathering additional footfalls through their online presence and furthering their earning potential by acting as pickup points, logistics partners, and experience centres for e-commerce.
