Replacement of more than dominant USD isn't easy. USD won't be as prevalent as its today by mid of century but supplanting it would require end of century given it's most stabilised circulated currency in world. They said they'd replace the dollar.
China?
Russia?
Iran?
Europe?
Crypto?
How will less financially secure countries battle the mythos of dollar? Have you seen the global environment recently?
Nonsensical posts and articles written by journalists.
I like India trading with rupee in different FTAs but not a BRICS reserve currency.
Your control on the currency will be diluted not to mention all the other countries are less stable than India.
We don't need to compromise rather peg our currency to gold and keep full control over it.
That's the best alternative.
Off course there should be a way to make others use your currency but you still having control over it. USD's success is a result of American hard power, internal consumption and petrodollar trade. For members who want Indian rupee to be used as a reserve currency.
My simple question is do you know the context of the proposition? What is India's total trade on a global level?
Do you understand bilateral currency swaps?
We even have Indians who are now simping for China using disingenuous pics for protests.
I have suspicion this is safron lad's twitter or someone of his ilk.

This maggot should tell us who is the "tank man" if he escaped safely.
If this guy actually an Indian , he should be purged by NIA .
Ya you have the right idea, countries will keep greater reserves of currency of their largest trading partner which mostly will be regionally aligned.Replacement of more than dominant USD isn't easy. With a relatively weakened US and rise of more & more great powers closing gap, creating the kind of leverage like US will be nearly impossible. There will instead be multiple blocks of countries using currency of one great power. Like Latin America uses USD, Sri Lanka, Nepal & Afghanistan using INR and so forth with CNY in Central Asia.
As long as USD remains stable. US, UK, EU etc. are considered markets which could never default and hence could get enormous amount of FDI and utilisation of their currency. Both UK & EU have already lost that kind of promising future, left one is now US. Don't know for how long. But financial markets don't look like they will disconnect from USD, doesn't make sense at all to use any other currency.
