Hafiz Saeed 'threatens' India

In a spectacle guaranteed to "send a chill through New Delhi," as The Financial Times put it, Hafiz Saeed, the suspected mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai terror bombings, is being feted in Pakistan as a "hero" attracting thousands of people as he "criss-crosses" the country at the head of a radical road-show targeting India and calling for "jihad."

The newspaper suggested that Mr. Saeed's campaign had the covert support of Pakistan's "India-fixated [military] generals" opposed to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari's bid to improve relations with India. His re-emergence in such a big way after being forced to lie low following the Mumbai carnage was a "stark illustration of how the authorities allow extremists to flout bans and operate in full view," it said.

In a front-page report, "The mullahs, the militants and the military — Pakistan's shadowy coalition stages return," the FT said a crowd of 10,000 chanted "If God asks, we will go for jihad" at a rally he addressed recently.

Mr. Saeed, founder of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), said he wanted to send a message to India, America and NATO forces that the defence of Pakistan was his main priority.

"Pakistan is facing very severe threats from both sides — India is one side, America and NATO forces on the other, and the agenda of both is Pakistan. We want to send a message to them that the defence of Pakistan is uppermost in our minds," he said describing Pakistan government's plans to grant greater market access to Indian goods as a "conspiracy" to destroy Pakistan's economy.

The report described "fist-waving speakers" at the rally threatening that "India would be sundered into quarters."

"The spectacle will send a chill through New Delhi which views Mr. Saeed as public enemy number one, and lay bare the limits of U.S. attempts to pressure or bribe Pakistan into cracking down on militants," it said.

So paki army mouth piece is speaking on their behalf, to garner some sympathy for the terrorists in uniform, and unite the masses behind them.

This is the worst time for paki army, they are losing the masses support. Interesting times ahead

Oh I got scared. What crappy reporting is this. "sending chill down new delhi". We can take him out the day we want to if the freaking govt grows a brain. Pakistan is on the highway to get itself declared a terror state "officially".

The Terrorist State of Napakistan's the army that has never won a war in its history is upto it's old tricks again. Their image is at an all time low, the civvies (enocuraged by someone) are growing a pair even if emaciated..common folk are questioning their abilities, their motives and biggest of all the necessity of having a huge army that gobbles up most of the budget.. the West is turning the screws..holding back money and armaments. OBL takedown in Abbottabad tore apart their echh and dee and their sovirginity in one big blow.

If I were a senior crore commander, a TSP jarnail what would I do to halt this uncomfortable unwelcome probing? I'll want something to divert attention. Something that will unite the warring and sparring factions of the Paki society behind the the sword arm under the banner of 'Jihad fi sabillah'? I'll engineer a spectacular strike on India a la 26/11. Make sure the strike is of such magnitude that India finds it extremely difficult not to respond in face of overwhelming public opinion. An Indian threat will bring TSPA into their mode, will unite the vermin behind their mandate to 'defend Pakhanaland from the evil kaafir Yinduu baniya India'. Those who dare speak of peace will be bradned traitors and waajib-ul-qatl. It will also ensure that no further fingers are pointed at the army for a forseeable future.

You can take him down, what about his network in India? The sleeper cells? An attack on him will escalate terror attacks in India to such extent that India will have no choice left to but to at least do surgical strikes in Pakistan and that is what the Pakis are looking for, they want a chance to use their nuke toys on India. The establishment there is as dumbo as their chest thumping commoners.

Yb the inability of the Pakistani state to muzzle him must be one part amusing one part frightening and one part schadenfreude to the Indian establishment.

His statements show that the monster that is jihadi terrorism is out of Army's control, they can't turn it off.

why would India will have no choice left but to do surgical strikes in Pakistan to prevent terrorist attack from the sleeper cells which are already within India? I fail to fathom the logic?!!!

How many sleeper cells could there be? How effective could they be once they security forces starts the lock down? Then if they already have that much sleepers, why export Ajmal Kasabs? I admit they must have Sleepers, but they wont be effective aas much as you might be afraid of. So chill.

your other fear of Paki nukes. Pakistani Military, as long as they actually have control over their nukes, will not use nukes against India. India would be hurt badly, but it would be worth it since there won't be any Pakistan any more.

It is the inability if the Indian state to undertake operations to protect its citizens.

India had to assassinate all such terrorists.

Not the inability of India, but indian Netas/babus inability. Our elite forces of army and navy has ability in surgical strikes and clandestine ops. Marcos and para-troopers involved in some cross-border ops during kargil.

definitely we can take them out.

Nahi bhai, first just let us see what this paper lion can do. Is he a barking dog or a biting dog, and then prepare ourselves for out and out war because we will most certainly be pushed to a war.

A nuke war will leave India beyond repair, they will not just be dropping one nuke bomb like US did to Japan, there will be a slew of missiles targeting every major areas of India. The aftermath of such nuclear attack will be dire. In such a scenario, war should best be the last option.

bluffs are not called on whims.

until we have beyond sufficient anti-missile 3 layer defense calling the bluff wont be of much use.

build defense first then call bluff...and even take away pok along with the bluff because they wont be able to do anything.
