The weapons config of WC Varthaman's Mig-21 on the 27th interception...

...And this is Mig-21 with Elta-8222 jammer.

So I suspect the FOC Tejas with jammer would fly with 3 BVRs & 2 CCMs during Combat Air Patrol with comparable loadout (as the dual-rack isn't yet available).

Are you scared of Brits, or do you think this RR deal will work
Nations don't think like teenagers to be scared shitless like that! It's a question of national interest- WIIFM - what's in it for me as a nation. IMHO engaging with the Argentinians at the cost of British sensibilities is detrimental to our long-term aims, esp when we are hoping they will help us in such a strategic sector as jet engines. It's either RR at $3-4B or Safran at $6B- no one else is willing to help out even with money bags. Of course, the third option is $2B and another 30 years for GTRE. The few millions in profit we make from any Argentinian deal even if it materialized is chump change compared to what's at stake here.

So let's wait till next year and see where this collaboration is going.

Now you could say oh we are an independent nation to pursue our own foreign policy. But whether you like it or not military partnership creates groupings/blocs. Look at how we got the French to squeeze Paxtani nuts- they stopped offering them top-of-the-line military hardware a long time back. Of late they refused support for even decades-old French hardware in Pakistani hands. Some of it because of their jihadi tendencies, but some also because of the billions of dollars from Scorpene and Rafale deals from India.

About the South Atlantic Islands: they were uninhabited until English and French settlements were established after 1750. I think both sides claimed sovereignty for their respective countries. France ceded its claim to sovereignty to Spain in 1771.

The British withdrew, followed by the Spanish in 1811. In 1816 Argentina claimed the islands, although uninhabited. German born Luis Vernet was given the right to exploit the islands. A settlement was established, Vernet was appointed commander of the islands in 1829. In a dispute over access to sealing and whaling in 1831 the US sent warship USS Lexington to the islands. The captain of the warship declared the dissolution of the government. In 1832 the garrison set up by Argentina mutinied. In 1833 the British took over the islands.

In the 1970's the British were negotiating transfer of sovereignty to Argentina. However the British would need to persuade the islands' inhabitants to accept the transfer. In 1976 a military coup overthrew the government in Argentina. The chances of the people living on the South Atlantic Islands (their geographical description) approving their political transfer to an Argentina now run by a murderous military dictatorship dropped from almost nothing to nothing.

In 1982 the Argentinian junta invaded the islands. Argentina continues to claim sovereignty over the islands. To prevent any future repetition of the 1982 invasion Britain is not prepared to allow any British content of any military system to be sold directly or indirectly to Argentina.

So, forget Argentina getting Tejas as is. In any event HAL could not supply Argentina without reducing supply to IAF, so what would be the point of supplying Argentina?

As of March 2020, 16 Tejas Mark 1 in IOC Configuration and 4 Mark 1 in FOC configuration delivered.

It seems the situation is absolutely the same as of may 2021.

IS IT TRUE ?
IIRC the last of 16 IOC aircraft was delivered March 2019. As for FOC deliveries, I think of civil aviation where an aircraft can be delivered (ownership has changed from OEM to customer) but still be located at the OEM's site until the customer moves it to their own site. Perhaps several FOC's have been delivered but are still with HAL.

Yes, very cool plane but damn that cockpit is like a space window compared to modern jets....pilots trained on modern jets would be so disappointed with the view, its just too narrow vs Tejas or mki

4 FOC weren't delivered, 1 was delivered... All 8 that has been built are undergoing Python-5 integration after its successful testing. Apparently to be done in July & 4 will be delivered. Until the they'll be at HAL tarmac.

Building pace is same as Dassault's Rafale delivery.

Same case for F-35 apparently..

Gripen is undoubtedly a great plane but the quesation here is that when Tejas has similar capabilities of Gripen C/D and MWF has similar capabilities of Gripen E, why would India buy it?

No valid reason to me. Apart from the suggestion that it would be good to study how SAAB produces them, can anyone come up with another suggestion?
