The Tejas is a beautiful aircraft and a sight for sore eyes. The same cannot be said of the Pak JF17 blunder. Even on superficial looks it beats the blunder. It's insides and it's capabilities are way ahead of the blunder.

It fills the role played by the Mig21 and surpasses it. We need a capable pinoint defence fighter to guard our airspace. So large numbers of mk1 and mk1a variants of the Tejas should be acquired. Around 200 planes at least. Our Mig21 fleet strength touched a figure of even 250 plus in the past.

An Tejas armed with an AESA radar, Asraam CCM, R73, Astramk1BVR, Astramk2(if the radar can support its long range), Derby ER bvr, external SPJ, IFR(for extended flight time and range) etc will be very potent. The Tejas may not equal an twin engine fighter but that was never the intention while designing the plane. One big advantage of the Tejas is it is cheaper than an expensive twin engine fighter.

Supported by AWACS in the background and networked it will undertake CAP in large numbers. A Tejas deployment ratio of 2:1 or 3:1 against invading enemy aircraft will be more than sufficient to cause severe headaches to the invading aircraft. One intruder aircraft will find it difficult to simultaneously fight 3 Tejas fighters which will be guided by our AWACS.

There will be upgrades at regular intervals for the Tejas to further improve its capability.

The Tejas mk2 will be a big improvement and be in the class of the Gripen E.

No not corona alone... They change some stuff to increase maintainability in the 3 (Sp-22,23,24) already manufactured fighters during the lockdown time.

That's why their flight got delayed despite getting engine clearance.

Not required imo.. Despite its many advantages over PAF fleet, it is still a light fighter with limited range. The money would we better spent on more Rafales.

Both are needed, and the budget simply has to be expanded to fit a lot of new hardware purchases - 2.5 Front threat is in full motion now and the ally in the White House is quite possibly gone.

Mk1A's in big numbers could handle most of the PAF, and along w/ LCH's could possibly take care of a lot of bombing and CAS missions; freeing up better fighter platforms to handle China from the get-go.

An expanded LCA Mk1A order and follow on Rafale order need to be placed soon.

I don't think some people realize how close Indian and Pakistani airfields and other military infrastructure are to each other on the western border. For that you need large numbers that can take off quickly (from several airbases spread out on border) in air defence role to shoot down enemy aircraft and cruise missiles, as well as hit several targets spread out along border in short range strike role.
India should get 400-500 Tejas spread out over all these airbases in the western front and even in eastern front for air defence/strike role at high altitude (because high altitude prevents how much you can take off with, with Tejas having an advantage here due to low wing loading): One squadron of Tejas with AESA, integrated ECM, decent BVR and precision bomb/missile capability at each of these airbases in the western and eastern fronts will go a long way in dealing both Pakistan and China.
