83 Tejas Mk1A Deal in December, HAL Starts preparations

Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria, has confirmed that the deal for 83 Indigenously made Tejas Mk1A fighter jet is now just a formality and inking of contracts between IAF and HAL will be done by December 2020, with deliveries to begin from 2023 onwards, which is likely to be completed by 2028. IAF has asked HAL to maintain an Annual production Capacity of 20 aircraft per year from 2024-25 onwards so that by early 2028 all aircrafts contracted are delivered. State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is already in talks with GE Aviation for fresh orders of 100+ F404-GE-IN20 Engines and a final contract is to be inked soon in 2021. HAL already has placed orders for Israeli developed ELM-2052 AESA Radar for the same. HAL already has started the process of installing additional capacity at the Private defense contractors who are now in charge of the manufacturing of wings, front, mid, and rear fuselage of the LCA-Tejas to meet IAF’s rate of annual production. idrw.org has been told while HAL waits for the inking of the final contract, activities already have begun to enhance the capacity of LCA-Tejas from 16 to 20 by 2024-25 for which the current Su-30MKI production facility which will be vacated by 2023 will be used to manufacture 4 additional jets.

Mk1a is a light combat aircraft....with limited capability......has limited payload and limited endurance
So will be operated in limited number
But mwf which will have double payload than mk1a will be operated in 200 numbers
It is designed to be what it is. It's size etc ain't accidental.
MK1 FOCs would be upgraded to MK1A AFAIK. 100+ (even 83 isn't) examples of a model is not 'limited numbers' by any stretch of imagination.

@Bleh do you have a pic of tejas showing off her twin barreled 23mm gun?

i don't see it it on her wing top.

:notsure:
I don't get your question... Plz elaborate.

Tejas’s gun is below it belly. It's present in all SPs.

Why airforce doesnt want more Mk1A's? Why only 83 and not 128?
The crudeness of the build of the area speaks volumes... It's still in prototypic state.
Mk1a is a light combat aircraft....with limited capability......has limited range and payload.

personally I would have reduced this mark 1a to just 40 planes..same as mark1. to be completed,by 2025..

we really need 150 plus mark2 tejas which is the real.deak a genuine comparably fighter to f16 block 70 or j10c or gripen e.

we really need mark 2 to arrive by 2026 or 2027 latest. forget spending 5 billion on 83 tejas spend 2.5 billion on 40 planes and use the other 2.5 billion for down payment on 36 more Rafale.

what I would have done is

72 Rafale by 2027
80 tejas mark 1 and 1a
80 mig29 upgrades
270 mki
45 mirage 2000 dash 5

then massive order for mark2 in 2027
amca in 2035

interim.purvhsse 50 f35 lightening In 2030.if needed
