It didn't failed, we just depleated it's dmax advantage, by simply staying very far off and using evasive maneuver too.
It can alternatively be interpreted that PAF launched it from Max envelope as it was spray and pray method. But to discount R-73 is naive. Plus I find the unnecessary bashing of Russian hardware unfounded. It's more unbecoming from a country that does not have an indigenous and strong defence complex to criticize each and every system.
All systems have pros and cons, that is why you have testing phase to find out the shortcomings.

Nepal doesn't have any indigenous gun industry. But for them to criticise Insas would not be "unbecoming"... Truth is truth. No matter who says it. And with good reason (as explained in several previous posts).

R-73 is no match to Python-5, ASRAAM, Mica etc. Performance of Russian AAMs in fields has been very unimpressive.

The very INSAS is rebuked by India.
What I said read and understand again. You take R-73 and compare it with Python5 which is latest Israeli missile and not surprisingly you come to the conclusion it's superior.
Russian equipment have their shortcoming in terms of seeker, but when you weight cost,performance the efficiency quotient is different.
Tbh Indian budget cannot afford in large quantities western tech.

Tejas ioc doesn't have gun for now...bdw the lsp with gun is ready for test, various tests will happen.....
Tejas ioc will get gun ,when they will be upgraded to foc ....and once gun trial happen in air...

83 mark 1a fighters by 2030 summer ........ is doable if we get our arse in gear and sign contract now

I think by summer of 2024 the first 4 planes should be handed over

Just 83 won't be enough and IAF should accept that,no MMRCA is happening any time soon,and the dwindling squadron numbers are a worry,they should propose two contracts, first of the 83 from HAL and additional 50 from the collaboration bw HAL and PVT industries(for assembling/manufacturing of the complete aircraft at one place just like the HAL line) just like they proposed for MMRCA,so that HAL solely built starts coming by the end of 2023 or early 2024 and Collab should start delivering the aircraft from 3-4 years onwards with the order completion time of 5 years from the first aircraft,so by the 2032 MK1A fleet will itself give some kind of relief......

Let's come down from the dream world... IAF will not be ordering more than 123 of the LCAs. The operational niche of light fighters is limited.
I 100% agree we have limited role for mark 1a . 100 only enough to set manufacturing design refine and improve concept experience..

What matter and is needed is evolved tejas mark 2 and Amca. Post 2030..

For those criticising 80 planes by 2030 I am basing this on typically Indian complacent building induxting past experience.
We are not China we do things at snails pace.
Imo 120 tejas by 2030 will be small.miracle

I wish it could happen, Ordering more number of Indigenous fighter aircraft to replace the number of Mig-21 and Older Jaguar Aircraft which are not in maritime strike role. But Problem is IAF will lobby for more number of Rafales to replace the older aircraft, apart from Bijendra Singh Dhanoa former Air Chief and present chief Rakesh Kumar Bahaduria, all other former Airchiefs were insisting on Rafale that too in three digits. Politicians are bound to give in after some time because of huge public out cry over falling of squadrons and sign the deal with France for more aircraft. Indian Airforce would have done what you have quoted above if Pakistan had not scaled down its original order of 66 F-16 Block 52 aircraft in the year 2005. If Pakistan had got all those F-16 , Indian Airforce would have rushed for more Tejas Jets to bridge the shortfall of numbers, Pakistan reduced the order to 18. It gave IAF enough time to evaluate MMRCA.

If the IAF wants to have 42 Squadrons they need to accept Light Combat Aircraft, without HAL Tejas Mark 2, 42 Squadrons are not possible without a drastic increase in defence budget.

India does not need 42 sqs and will not have enough pilots enough standoff weapons bases and logistics support to maintain 42 sqds.

This number cane from an era in the 1980S when air power was without force multipliers cyber warfare and asymmetrical warefare.

We need 32 sqd only but they need to be no junk in this ie

I dont think we will get F-35 at least for Air force given the number of customers whom Lockheed Martin has to deliver orders . Your point about force multipliers is well noted. But do we have enough force multipliers like aerial Refuelers, AWECS etc. I dont think so. S-400 will add punch to our capability, but again we need to increase the number of regiments along with some medium Air Defense.

One thing which is happen to sure is that PAF will retire 2 squadrons of Mirage III or V by the year 2030. This decade will see a dip in Pakistan Fighter Squadron strength, unless they get their hands on used F-16. Our fighter aircraft strength might increase by few squadrons due to availability of Rafales.

You have missed Jaguar Aircraft. We might maintain at least 2 squadrons of Jaguar Aircraft. IAF would like to replace Jaguar on one to one basis. I dont think all the Jaguars will be gone by 2030. May be the aircraft which are not upgraded. If there is a delay in Tejas Mark 2, We can keep the production line warm again by ordering 20 Tejas Mark 1 Aircraft.
