If India is embargoed today, it most definitely can continue to manufacture the engines with Indian Raw materials. Its not the technology that's holding us back but the intent. If you look at the materials sourced from OEMs for the engines that run Sukhoi, its just handful and something the Indian engineers/scientists can replicate should the need arise.

Kaveri is a classic example. Now why I say this is because, the design is nothing like anything India license manufactures in the country. With Full Authority Digital Engine Control System, it stands contemporary with the worlds best, just that its not designed to generate enough thrust for the military's latest requirements, but its still a working qualified flawless jet engine.

I am not one of those fanboys chest thumping about whatever is being produced here but rather want to clear some misconceptions about India.

Note: And Just so you know, in the late 60's, India did successfully manage to Re-Engineer RD-9F to suit our requirements and develop Re-heat systems for Orpheus 703 engine. We now are in 2020.

Don't be a better idea , to call Boeing to setup factory in India and produce Tejas for us keeping all security. This way can achieve with Tejas what we want.

The problem there is no other company in India against HAL. This HAL knows very well. Either big company of India setup one such company then competition will start.

Million dollars question but why? Why private players which are doing wonders in other fields keeping themselves away from defence sector?? Why private players just want to be preferred as a Dalaal of big foreign companies but don't want to participate directly into Indias defence sectors???
Many private companies activity manufacturing and selling their defence products around the world but in India till recently??

Multiple reasons

1)ScrewDriver giri is more profitable in the short term and safe.
2)No guarantee of Financial support In case the endeavour fails to take off.
The babus, the polictians and top military leadership is compromised. Those people don't care about long term vision of the country they just want their personal cut from arms import. A big lobby gains from importing so private players have also made it a hobby to gain profit through guaranteed arms import.
There is no mechanism of preventing corruption in militray Bofors scam and coffin scams are just the surface lots of other deal have not passed our eye.

There is no mechanism to remove this system the civil sevices are compromised, the businessmen are compromised, politicians are compromised, the judiciary is compromised.
