SU57 X-Band AESA are also mounted to its cheeks does it already.



An Article talks about countering "Defensive Notching" is done using its the cheek mounted X Band radar. The Russian thought this through gracefully.
Is it just me or does the bolts and rivets make it look like really clumsy metal work::???

Does anyone here have an idea when will the deal for mk1a be signed.

They keep changing it again and again.
No paisa re no paisa... HVT confirmed they are prioritising it for next quarter though.

France has delivered only 2 Rafales yet, another batch of 4 is to arrive by 15th Aug. No chance of extension of that order until this delivery has reached halfway in 2022... new funds should be available by then.

In a big boost for defence under the Make in India initiative, Air Force Chief RKS Bhadauria on Monday said that the second squadron of Light Combat Aircraft (LCAs) worth over Rs 8,000 crore would be operationalised by the end of May.

Speaking to ANI, the Air Force Chief said the force is also expecting to finalise a contract worth around Rs 39,000 crore for 83 LCA Mark 1A Aircraft in the next quarter. "The first squadron is already operationalised. We were to operationalise the second squadron in April, we have resurrected the squadron. But due to COVID-19, it got delayed.

Some work at HAL had stopped which has restarted. Hopefully, before the end of this month, we will inaugurate the second squadron of LCA. It's worth just in terms of aircraft and ground assets, will be upwards of Rs 8,000 crore," Bhadauria said here.


Speaking about the future programs on LCA, he added, "We are pushing hard for 83 LCA Mark 1A, that's our immediate focus area. Within the next quarter, we should be able to sign it. Most of the negotiations have been completed and I think the Ministry is going to move it in a month or so." He said that this project would range around Rs 39,000 crore.

Besides this, the Air Force Chief stated that they are also going to make good progress on the weapons side with Astra MK-1.

"We are pushing the Astra weapons, the Beyond Visual Range weapons order would be in place within about six months or so. Also, long-range precision-guided ammunition would be in place," he said.

Supporting the increase in the limit of FDI by the Centre from 49 to 74 per cent, the IAF chief said, "This will have a large impact as far as Make in India is concerned. The 74 per cent FDI limit should be seen with support measures for MSMEs, the broad directions towards public sector enterprises which have come out in terms of sectoral reforms, and the 74 per cent FDI."

"This will have a huge impact on Make in India for indigenous production. The industries should work towards utilising these reforms which have been put in place," he further said.

At this point forget more Rafale and get more Tejas mk1a for the time being 10 squadrons of Tejas mk1a will do more good than 2 more squadrons of rafale.

The choots wrote the old price-tag of β‚Ή47k crore on the headline, and actual adjusted cost of β‚Ή39k crores inside.

At this point forget more Rafale and get more Tejas mk1a for the time being 10 squadrons of Tejas mk1a will do more good than 2 more squadrons of rafale.
Ok. There is an absolute ZERO chance of getting more Tejas Mark1A. Here's why;

In ideal case of no roadblocks, delivery of 73 jets will begin 2023 and continue till 2028. After that India will start using all its lines for MWF production, instead of follow-on LCA orders.

Only extension of Tejas order that can & need to happen by 2020. Why?
Because right now their capacity is no more than 10 per year, for leftover 9 FOC that are not under various stages of construction (6 are)... to be followed by a total 10+8 trainers. If an order for another squadron of 16 FOC be placed, then they'll have just enough reason & means to expand its manufacturing line.

Why not just place a huge order for MK1A's to make up for all the missing MiG-21's since that's the gap that needs to be filled (large numbers of a cheap Interceptor that does CAP's) - and then switch directly to that twin engine Tejas variant MMRCA which is practically a cheap Rafale?

MK2 seems like an unnecessary, inefficient intermediary step.

Not really, it was the best solution given the situation. MK1A will have everything one could possibly ask for in a Single Engine interceptor. There will be air to air refueling, an AESA radar, a BVR missile of ~100 KMs plus a stronger engine than the prototypes. What more do you want from your lowest end fighter?

It's good enough to make in bulk, and certainly a huge step up from the MiG 21s

No more space for avionics upgrades in it's shelf life.

Natural progression would have been from Mk1 to Mk2, not Mk1A. Mk1 and 1A are better for CAP and LIFT. Laxity, inordinate delays in decision making, with-holding of funds, appeasement of labour unions (all well-known sins) contributed to the hotchpotch we see today. Now, only sensible way for the Tejas to move forward is to keep the HAL line busy till 2026 by which time Mk2 will be buckled-up and ready-to-go. Mk1A is a sensible solution, not the best one, imho.

Yes, that's the one I'm talking about, the twin engine "Desi Rafale" variant.
Actually LCA Mk1A covers Light category
MWF should be covered be Rafale +ORCA
Heavy already covered by MKI's

Even F4I4 sufficient to power it

Seprate study on MWF is needles all resources should be on AMCA
