The Genesis Project is a suborbital launcher with a 20kg to 50kg payload capacity. Capable of reaching space (Apogees from 50 km to 175 depending on its configuration) and staying there for a few minutes performing a suborbital parabolic trajectory.
The design arises from what has been learned with atmospheric sounding rockets such as 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗼 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝘀, which, being supersonic and having important apogees, allow us to outline stage separation technologies, larger, more robust fuselages and an adequate aerodynamic design to be able to reach these heights. . The project is in a phase from TRL 5 to TRL 6.

In recent years, the Argentine defense industry has launched various projects with the aim of strengthening the capability of its armed forces. One of the most outstanding programs is the CH-14, a two-seater attack and light helicopter developed by Cicaré Helicópteros S.A., a national company specialized in helicopter manufacturing. The CH-14 Aguilucho helicopter was a project conceived by the Argentine army with the aim of creating a light helicopter of national technology that could meet the needs of the force. Based on the experience of the renowned engineer Augusto Cicaré, founder of Cicaré Helicópteros. Starting in January 2006, CICARE Helicópteros S.A. worked on the design and production of the experimental prototype of the CH-14 Aguilucho. After conducting the first test flights in March 2007, the prototype was presented in a special ceremony on Army Aviation Day on November 23, 2008. The presentation included an impressive air parade with the participation of various aircraft. The CH-14 Aguilucho and Lucho were designed with an angular shape that minimizes the risk of detection by radar control and also provides a simple and streamlined assembly. The helicopter can carry payloads of up to 740 kilograms, and there is the possibility of improvements that would allow it to carry more payloads if necessary. This experimental helicopter can be used both in the civilian and military sectors and in security forces. In the military sector, the CH-14 Aguilucho could be the basis of a helicopter similar to the US V 280, which is being manufactured with the idea of having a small and maneuverable helicopter to operate in urban environments or mixed terrain and also to use innovative weapons such as new loitering munitions. These smart munitions allow remote targeting, and the attack capability of this technology would be a perfect complement to the CH-14 Aguilucho, along with other elements such as the Pop Colibrí 7.62, for example. Although this helicopter still has the potential to become a light reconnaissance and attack aircraft for the Argentine armed forces, it could also be made into a product for export. The aircraft could be complemented with other elements such as the latest generation radars developed by Argentina such as Alerta LM2106MG. The creation of the CH-14 Aguilucho helicopter was achieved thanks to the collaboration of various entities, including the technical department of the Army Aviation Command, the 601 aircraft supply and maintenance battalion, the Faculty of Aeronautical Engineering of the National University of La Plata, and several local suppliers. In addition, one of the most notable advantages of the CH-14 Aguilucho is its low operating cost, making it ideal for surveillance and patrol missions. In terms of design, it has a three-blade main rotor and a six-blade festoon tail rotor, which provides greater stability and control during flight. The CH-14 Aguilucho also features technological advancements in safety, such as an impact protection system that reduces the risks of injury in case of an accident and a hermetic cabin that protects pilots from adverse weather conditions. The CH-14 Aguilucho helicopter is an experimental prototype developed by the Argentine company CICARE Helicopters S.A in collaboration with the Argentine army and other local agencies and suppliers. Although it was never mass-produced, this helicopter and attack and reconnaissance platform has an unusual design and advanced technology, which makes it promising for use in military and civilian missions. Although the CH-14 and Lucho remained a unique prototype, their development and design are a clear example of the potential that the Argentine aeronautical industry has to create high-quality and versatile products. The fact that this prototype is now exhibited in the museum of the Cicaré Helicopters S.A factory is a reminder of the efforts and achievements of the company and the collaboration with the Argentine army in the creation of this innovative helicopter.

AEROSPACE INDUSTRY RESEARCH CENTER
Aerospace companies increasingly bet on R&D in Mexico
By Dinorah Becerril. June 1, 2023

The research and development centers for the aerospace sector have become a fundamental piece to strengthen the capacities of the industry in Mexico.

According to Pro Aéreo 2.0, there are several research centers located in the different aerospace development poles in Mexico: Baja California, Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Querétaro and Sonora, which support and attend to the needs of companies. Querétaro and Nuevo León are the two states with the largest number of research and development centers, with six and five, respectively.

For Antonio Velázquez, general director of the Querétaro Aerocluster, research centers play an important role in responding to industry demand and are part of an ecosystem in which innovative companies that develop high-tech projects are present.

Querétaro has distinguished itself for being strong in manufacturing, maintenance and repair, and special processes and now it is committed to this new vertical that has to do with more advanced design and engineering processes, which is why it is increasingly attracting more complex projects.

“We have interestingly observed that the industry in Querétaro is transforming; Originally, the vast majority of the projects were focused on the areas of manufacturing, maintenance and repair, and special processes, but more and more companies are developing projects for basic and applied research,” said Velázquez.

Such are the cases of GE and ITP Aero, which have research and engineering centers.

Companies are increasingly showing greater interest in the capacities of research centers, in particular, for the characterization of materials and special processes, that is, it may be that the manufacturing process has already been carried out or comes from abroad, "but Along the way there are many challenges to solve that have to do with the execution of manufacturing or the application of certain methods or special processes”.

Research centers intervene in these aspects to support with their infrastructure, researchers and methodologies to characterize some of the processes or elements of manufacturing, which is why we see this growing interest, said Velázquez.

There are several research centers in the state, such as the National Center for Metrology, the Center for Advanced Technology (Ciateq), the Center for Research and Technological Development in Electrochemistry (Cideteq), the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (Cinvestav) of the National Polytechnic Institute and the Center for Engineering and Industrial Development (Cidesi), to which are added those of other educational institutions that also carry out research and development such as the Aeronautical University in Querétaro (Unaq) and the High Technology Unit of the Faculty of Engineering from UNAM, who are currently developing a project in the aerospace industry.

In Querétaro, 30% of the projects that are carried out are basic research, that is, elements that start new technology and innovation processes and are at the beginning of the research; and 70% of applied research, which refers to the one that is more advanced and probably already has a commercial application with a certain objective for its use.

“This year we carried out a study of how many projects are being developed in the aeronautical, space and defense industry. In total, we were able to count 34 studies or projects that are being worked on in this sector”, explained Velázquez.

He specified that of these, 32% are in the aeronautical sector, 5% in the defense area and the rest in space.

The areas of knowledge of these projects have to do with the development of new structures or materials, surface processes or for surface modification, software development, drones, composite materials, rockets, navigation systems, and micro and nanosatellites.

The companies that are working on these developments, he added, are Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) companies, mainly Tier 1 and 2.

Among the areas of research and development in which a greater investment is observed is in sustainability. For example, during the Mexico Aerospace Fair (Famex), Unaq and GE Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with a view to achieving their sustainability objectives in the industry.

In addition to them, they are developing other projects that have to do with propulsion, aerostructures, among others.

In addition, the link with the academy is essential to generate impacts in the development of human capital,

1686106247663.png

"The vision that we have is to be mindful and not only focus on manufacturing because we are aware that we do not have the large tractors like Chihuahua, Querétaro or Monterrey, but we do have companies, which have a high level of technological development," said Óscar Rodríguez , president of BJX Aerospace.

Aspects such as design and redesign, which start from the conceptualization of the aircraft, and later the tests, certification and commercialization have to be based on knowledge.

The cluster promotes innovation and development of new start-ups, for which the first Air and Business Incubator was launched, called Cosmodrone, an incubator specifically for the aerospace sector with which it seeks to detonate the economy, through the use of technologies.

For example, such is the case ATG Additive Manufacturing, one of the companies that is being certified in the AS9100 D to be able to enter this industry. Additive manufacturing is one of the technologies that is expected to revolutionize the industry and it is about design and redesign of components.

AV-MTC missile hit the target! First part Interview General Paixão, Artillery Command of the EB.
1686608657804.png

1686608695896.png

(Interview authorized by the Planalto Military Command with citations to the General Staff of the Army-EME, Land Operations Command-COTER and Department of Science and Technology-DCT)

To learn a little more about the Brazilian Army Artillery Command and its new facilities, inaugurated in 2020, and about Astros, the most modern and capable long-range system of the land force, Infodefensa.com traveled to Fort Santa Bárbara , where he was received by Brigadier General Moisés da Paixão Júnior, head of Artillery of the Brazilian Army.

Paixão, born 52 years ago in Recife, Pernambuco, is responsible for the most powerful land-to-land weapon on the South American continent, the Avibras AV-MTC 300 cruise missile, which can only be launched by Astros.

In this first part of the interview, Paixão highlighted that the CEP (probable circular error) of the missile is only nine meters and the performance of the acceleration/launch booster and the cruise turbine has stood out in the latest tests. In addition, it already has greater autonomy in the improved version with lower fuel consumption without performance degradation.

Likewise, the industrialization of the weapon is guaranteed, through Avibras, which keeps up-to-date the knowledge acquired and the manpower necessary for the development of the AV-MTC 300.

Finally, the head of the Brazilian Artillery slipped in the decision not to invest more in guided rocket 40, beyond the conceptual research phase and the practical test of the terminal's guidance technology, which was obtained and mastered.

The AV-MTC 300 cruise missile arrives with the mission to renew the star system's deterrent appeal and its export potential. What can you shed light on the performance of the AV-MTC 300?

The Astros Program, managed by the Army Projects Office under the direct attention of the General Staff of the Force, is managed by General R1 Barreto, who already gave an important interview to Infodefensa in 2018, when the Program was still called Astros 2020. 2022 we had a launch campaign that was very successful. The missile met all the performance requirements in the launch phase, fulfilled all the navigation steps in its flight guided by waypoints and successfully impacted the target area established in Barreira do Inferno in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. All within the requirements. We rescheduled for the year 2023 the shots scheduled to take place in the 2nd half of 2022, but this singular campaign in March was a complete success, proving that the Brazilian Army has an effective weapon in its hands and Avibras an excellent product, with a cycle of very advanced development.

What was the CEP performance obtained by the AV-MTC 300 in this shot? And how many kilometers away did the missile fly?

The missile forecast specified in the requirements is 300 km. What we can add as new information is: as the missile's turbine is being improved, we managed to obtain, with the same amount of fuel, a greater range than previously recorded. The missile completed the 300 km carrying out a navigation by way points, and after that it headed towards the impact/target zone. Remembering that the performance of a launch alone cannot determine that this number is definitive, it can improve with more launches, but the March shot hit the target with a CEP of nine meters, proving the navigation capacity of the system and the accuracy of the final attack against the specified target. In the event of a conflict, this target would have been completely destroyed.

Avibras Aeroespacial e Defesa entered into a judicial recovery process triggered in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. What impact has this had or could it have on the Astros Program?

We were recently at the Avibras headquarters, where we attended a lecture given by the company's management on these financial issues, which have their impacts. We received two very clear signals from Avibras, first their commitment to resolve this issue of judicial recovery as soon as possible, and second, the preservation of manpower, jobs, the technical knowledge necessary for the Astros Program, even with readjustments and changes of schedules. In fact, this explains why it was necessary to reschedule the shooting for the 2nd half of this year to 2023.
