TP (Industria de Turbo Propulsores, S.A.): advanced technology in aeronautical propulsion from Spain
The ITP Group is a leader in engineering, research and development, manufacturing and foundry, assembly and testing of aeronautical engines and gas turbines. Additionally, it performs online maintenance activities for engines and aircraft, and provides engine leasing and purchase and sale services. It is also the official maintenance service for most of the existing engine manufacturers in the world today, with a capacity to repair more than 400 engines a year.
ITP is Rolls-Royce's risk partner for the design and manufacture of Low Pressure Turbine modules for engines over 35,000 lbf thrust. ITP is participating through risk/reward contracts in the development and manufacture of the TBP modules for the Rolls-Royce Trent-500 engines that power the Airbus A340-500/600 aircraft, Trent-900, one of the options that will power the Airbus A380, and the Trent-1000, an engine option for the Boeing 7E7 aircraft.
The company has 11 production centers in Spain, Great Britain, Mexico and the USA and a workforce of more than 2,200 workers.
ITP has the following quality accreditations:AQAP7PECAL110, ISO9001:2000, ISO14001, EN/AS9100, JAR145, ISO17025(ENAC), OSHAS 18001, EMAS II, JAR21D DOA Subpart JB, JAR21 POA, NADCAP and Coatings. Likewise, it has quality certifications from clients such as Rolls-Royce (GB), Rolls-Royce Deutchland, Rolls-Royce Corporation (USA), Snecma (F), Honeywell Engines and Systems (USA), Turbomeca (F), General Electric Aircraft Engines (USA), Pratt & Whitney (USA), BAe Systems (UK).
Additionally, it has obtained the Basque Award for management quality - Gold Q, Rolls-Royce Quality Award and the Principe Felipe Award for Industrial Quality.
Product:
Design and manufacture of low pressure turbines for aeronautical engines with more than 35,000 pounds of thrust
The Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) has the mission of obtaining power in the most efficient way to drag the fan that propels the plane. The TBP module is a complete and independent product within the gas turbines.
ITP is responsible for the design and manufacture of the TBP module of the Trent-500 Enhanced engine that exclusively powers the Airbus A340-500 and A340-600 aircraft and whose engine has been bench certified for 60,000 pounds of thrust.
The company is also developing the turbine for the Trent-900 engine, which consists of five stages, despite the notable increase in the size of the fan. Compared to the Trent-500, it has the advantage of setting the benchmark with the most advanced engine on the market, but also of illustrating the differences between the two engines, especially in terms of TBP and fan.
Likewise, the development of the TBP of the Trent-1000 engine that will propel the 7E7 stands out. In relation to those of the Trent-900 engine still under development, the acquisition cost is expected to be reduced by 25%, the design time reduced by 20%, the weight reduced by 25% and the noise levels corresponding to -3 dB.
In addition, Boeing's need to recover the market that Airbus has taken away from it requires that in 2008 the B7E7 engine have these same requirements in service (and not just experimentally demonstrated), to which should be added the reduction in length of the turbine by 20%, improving efficiency to reach values above 92%, and NOx, HC and CO emissions according to ACARE requirements.
Other products:
Design and manufacture of low pressure turbines for aeronautical engines with less than 10,000 pounds of thrust. ITP has partnered with Honeywell for the design, development, manufacture and after-sales service of a TBP for a family of engines whose takeoff thrust is between 5,000 and 9,000 lbf, and whose most important characteristic is to provide an operating cost reduced without penalizing the rest of the parameters, such as weight and efficiency, which continue to be of vital importance to the customer.
Design and manufacture of power turbines for turboprop engines. ITP is designing and manufacturing the power turbine for the 11,000 hp TP400-D6 engine that will power the European Airbus A400M military transport aircraft.
o Design and manufacture of the TBP (Low Pressure Turbine) of the ANTLE European program.
