Bombarco Golden Whale Award 2021 elected the best boats in several categories. Manufacturers Azov, Fibrafort, Flexboat and Okean were the big winners. Marina Nacionals won in the Marina Excellence category.

Follow the Digital Island Portal on Google News
The Bombarco Golden Whale Award 2021, created by the Bombarco group, leader in nautical businesses in Brazil, awarded the outstanding vessels in six categories: entertainment, family, premium family, luxury, yacht and innovation.

The winners were chosen by a body of technical judges, made up of Brazilian and foreign experts. Manufacturers Azov, Fibrafort, Flexboat and Okean received awards for their vessels launched between 2019 and 2021 in the country.

Another novelty was the unprecedented category “Excellence in Marinas”, which had Marina Nacionais, located in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo, as the big winner.

“The intention of the award is to show that, in addition to growth and record sales, the Brazilian nautical industry has innovation and excellence. More than just showing the characteristics of each boat, consumers now have an award with a technical sieve that will serve as a quality reference. It is also a parameter to drive market development”, explains the creator of the Award and director of the Bombarco Group, Márcio Ishihara.

Gala night in São Paulo

The award to the winners was given during a gala dinner that was attended by authorities, businessmen and executives representing marinas and shipyards in the country. Another high point of the night was the tribute to personalities who contribute to the development and promotion of nautical activities in Brazil, including the Minister of Tourism Gilson Machado Neto, who participated via video; Olympic marathon marathon champion Ana Marcela Cunha, played by her parents; Associação Nossa Guarapiranga (ANG), a non-profit civil association that works for the preservation of the Guarapiranga dam, in São Paulo; José Medeiros Nicolau, o Zezeco, for his work with the Ministry of Tourism for Planning, Partnerships, Concessions and Tourism in waters.

Pernambuco enters the history of maritime navigation as the first Brazilian state to build an Aframax oil tanker. With an investment of R$ 250 million, the Castro Alves oil tanker, 248 meters long, carrying up to 120 thousand tons, was built at the Atlântico Sul Shipyard (EAS), installed in the Suape Port Industrial Complex. The vessel was financed by the Merchant Marine Fund of Brazil. To see the greatness of the investment up close, the minister of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, Valter Casimiro, visited EAS this Monday morning (23/04), in the company of Governor Paulo Câmara, of the President of the Industrial Port Complex Suape, Marcos Baptista, and federal deputies Tadeu Alencar and Betinho Gomes. The visit was also accompanied by the Pernambuco press.

Between February 25 and March 1, Operation ASTROS XVII will take place at CLBI (Inferno Barrier Launch Center), with the launch of two tactical missiles MTC-300 (AV-TM 300) under development by Avibras.

The Port Authority has already issued a dangerous area activation message in the launch area for the foreseen period.

So far 16 test flights have been carried out. There are at least four more in the scheduling phase before pre-series production begins.

Avibras Avibras Aerospace is developing the 300 km Tactical Cruise Missile (MTC) in partnership with the Brazilian Army (EB).

The MTC-300 has a 200 kg warhead, uses a rocket engine at launch and during subsonic cruise flight, propulsion is carried out by a turbine also developed by Avibrás.

Navigation is done by a combination of inertial platform and GPS.

The weapon is at the limit of the Missile Technology Control Regime, the MTCR, to which Brazil is a signatory. The agreement restricts the maximum range of action to 300 kilometers and the warheads to 500 kilos.

In 2009, Naval Group was entrusted by the Brazilian Navy with designing and transferring the technology for four conventional Scorpène submarines, and for the design and manufacturing assistance for the non-nuclear part of Brazil’s first nuclear-powered submarine. The contract also included the support for the construction of a naval base and a shipyard in Brazil.

The Prosub program is a key extension of the strategic defence cooperation agreement signed in December 2008 in Rio de Janeiro.

The launching of the Scorpène Riachuelo in presence of the Brazilian head of state today demonstrates the success of this program, with both the successful completion of the first submarine and of the shipyard’s infrastructure. The latter is being built by a Brazilian company, Construtora Norberto Odebrecht (CNO), based on Naval Group specifications and on the French group’s experience in the design, production engineering and in-service support of submarines.

naval group launch riachuelo 1st brazilian scorpene submarine
The Riachuelo will start sea trials in 2019 for delivery in 2020. Delivery of submarines 2, 3 and 4 will then follow every 12 to 18 months.

Since 2012, Naval Group has done considerable work to identify, select, negotiate, qualify Brazilian service providers in order to:

feed the supplier database for equipments or products supplied by Naval Group to the Brazilian Navy; and to present and qualify local suppliers for the future needs of the Brazilian Navy.
This work enables the Brazilian Navy to rely more and more on a sovereign national industrial base.

It also enables the Brazilian industrial ecosystem to access new markets by promoting their “Naval Group” and “Brazilian Navy” accreditation (whose image of excellence and seriousness is highly regarded in Brazil) and to avail of the know-how and experience of the French group in the fields of project management.

Finally, ICN (Itaguaí Construções Navais) will be able to call on this panel of suppliers for its own development as part of the future maintenance and support services of the submarines.

Scorpène® is the conventional submarine designed by Naval Group for the export market. It demonstrates both Naval Group’s ability to deliver best in class submarines and to conduct successful transfers of technology. Today 14 Scorpène® submarines are in operational service or being built, for the Chilean Navy (2 units), the Malaysian Navy (2 units), the Indian Navy (6 units) and the Brazilian Navy (4 units).

The Scorpène® design is adapted to fit each navy’s specific requirements. Thus, the Brazilian Scorpène® will be slightly longer to carry a larger crew, almost double the patrol range, and be able to cover greater distances.

Scorpène® is ideally suited for action and operational effectiveness. Robust and enduring, it’s an ocean-going submarine also designed for shallow waters operations. Multipurpose, it fulfils the entire scope of missions such as anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare, special operations, offensive minelaying and intelligence gathering. Integrating improvements from French Barracuda-Class fast-attack submarine, Scorpène® has cutting-edge capabilities.

Brazilian Scorpène®’s characteristics
Surfaced displacement: 1,600 – 2,000 t
Length, overall: 72 m
Submerged speed > 20 kts
Diving depth > 300 m
Autonomy > 45 days
Crew: 35
Weapons total payload: 18
Weapon tubes: 6
Operational availability at sea > 240 days per year

WEG from Brazil

On September 16, 1961, in the city of Jaraguá do Sul / SC, the skills of an electrician, an administrator and a mechanic were unified and resulted in the founding of Eletromotores Jaraguá. Born from the courage of visionary entrepreneurs, after a while, the company was renamed WEG, alluding to the initials of the founders. Name that today is recognized as one of the largest manufacturers of electrical equipment in the world.

Initially producing electric motors, WEG expanded its activities starting in the 1980s with the production of electro-electronic components, products for industrial automation, power and distribution transformers, liquid and powder paints, as well as electro-insulating varnishes. The company established itself, not only as a manufacturer of motors, but also as a supplier of complete industrial electrical systems

Wetlands de México y Asociados S.C. is a 100% Mexican company dedicated to the research and development of scientific and technological innovations to obtain and implement new products and ecological processes in the field of wastewater treatment and sanitary landfills.
1638407107457.png

1638407134214.png

[
Advantage
As already mentioned, the Wetlands system is applicable to municipal water treatment for populations of less than 35,000 inhabitants. In Mexico, the existing infrastructure, reported by the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) until 2008 for the treatment of municipal wastewater at the national level, indicates that the activated sludge system, due to its technical characteristics, is the predominant technology, with 417 plants (44.32%), however CONAGUA itself reports serious operating problems and maintenance costs of these systems that make it more difficult to implement wastewater treatment at the municipal level in our country (CONAGUA, 2008).
The following table summarizes a comparison of the technical characteristics between the Wetlands system and the activated sludge system.

The Argentine Long Range Cannon (CALA) is part of the Long Range Artillery System (SALA) whose origin dates back to the end of 1981. On that date the Army General Staff required the Institute for Scientific and Technical Research of the Armed Forces (CITEFA, today CITEDEF) to carry out a feasibility study to carry out the aforementioned system.

Some of the characteristics that the new artillery system should include were the following: Caliber of 155 millimeters, with a length of tube L 45 [1]. These should be sufficient to provide a maximum range of 30 kilometers. The ability to rotate the barrel 180 degrees was also required. Tube movement 70 degrees in elevation and 40 degrees for left and right. The total weight was defined in the order of 10 tons.

1638484693752.png

CALA 30/2 cannon designed in Argentina

Despite its formidable features, ROOM 30 never entered series production. This left the Argentine artillery with a flaw that is becoming more evident every day. This means that today the Argentine Army does not have a long-range artillery system, rapid deployment, high mobility and adapted to the new ammunition. However, looking to the future, the CITER 155mm barrels will have to be replaced by new systems due to the wear and tear of the material itself.

This may be the opportunity to bring the SALA 30 project back to life, with a new impetus that mobilizes means to place the Argentine artillery in a competitive place with the rest of the world. It is important to note that the country still retains the capacity, the means and the technical knowledge in the field of the defense industry to revive this project.
