I was keep quiet but now whatever.

As IAF to get first female pilot for Rafale , here is a photograph of Captain Claire Merouze who was the first French woman pilot of Rafale. However, at the end, they all are , just pilot for their nations. Get over your hu ha. imo there is no need to make a big hu ha about women. no need to put big spotlight on it - let them serve quietly and effectively without media hype and pressure.

The batch mate of the lady pilot is training on the Su 30 MKI. The training also started around August i.e just after the planes arrived in late July.

There are two things I can read from this :

1) The government wants more Rafales. After the controversy this is a silent attempt to white wash it via 'women empowerment'.

Usually fighter pilots have to transition to 2-3 fighter aircraft before they can be assigned to newer planes. This jump shows this is an attempt at white washing.

2) Our MiG 21s will be retired by 2022. These machines were supposed to be replaced by HAL Tejas but because of the delay in inducting them in sufficient numbers, Govt. is now forced to delegate Su 30 MKI to air defence, escort roles more frequently which is reflecting in the training of the lady pilots.

The Govt. will move nearly all female pilots to either Tejas or the MKI (air defence) as shown by this upcoming movie :

Kangana is going to be a BJP MP in RS is now an open secret.

The government has planned this as a PR offensive. They want more Rafales.

USAF does this with fluff pieces of women directly being inducted into new aircraft with no transition time.

Its an old tactic against budget cuts.

What's going on with your Brahmos equivalent supersonic/hypersonic nuke missile and Scalp replacement program for Rafale.

I was reading into it and do not understand why france want two types of similar missiles.

British proposal of subsonic stealthy cruise missile vs supersonic hypersonic by French

What will be the diff in between two missile in that case apart from range?

Another 36 Rafales on the way?
Earlier this month, the Indian Air Force formally inducted five Rafale combat aircraft — two 2-seat trainers, and three combat-ready single seater aircraft, into the 17th ‘Golden Arrows’ Squadron in Ambala. Another five Rafales with IAF roundels are at the Dassault base in Merignac in southern France, being used for conversion of MiG-21bis pilots, ground handling and maintenance crews.

The retraining stints are for six months for each lot of Indian pilots and technicians, with the pilots allotted the contracted number of training sorties alongside a French instructor.

Making allowance for the occasion, there was the expected hyperbole. The defence minister Rajnath Singh called the aircraft a “game changer” and, with less the Chinese adversary in Ladakh in mind than the domestic audience, added that it sent a “big and stern message to the entire world, especially those eyeing our sovereignty.” The French defence minister Florence Parly not to be outshone in exaggeration said that “India has world class capability and incredible sovereign tool. India has an edge over the entire region.” She was merely embroidering what her Indian counterpart had stated in Merignac on 8 October 2019 when formally accepting the first lot of Rafales. After a joy ride in the plane, the Indian leader had declared “the new Rafale Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA)” as making “India stronger” and giving the IAF an “exponential boost” to “its air dominance” capability.

Why Rajnathji was briefed to say this is not important. But how the IAF means to actually obtain air dominance with just 36 of these aircraft is a mystery. Sure, Rafales working in tandem with Su-30MKIs can plausibly achieve this objective as former Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa stated, but by themselves even twice this number of Rafales in Indian colours cannot. But, as the late defence minister Manohar Parrikar was convinced, larger numbers of Su-30s would alone have sufficed for the purpose. Moreover, the additional Su-30s could have been secured at a fraction of the Rs 59,000 crore upfront cost of the Rafales or, to repeat myself, for just a “truckload” of the exorbitantly-priced Meteor, Scalp and Hammer missiles that these aircraft will be armed with, and which have been tested and proven by the French Air Force against such military heavyweights as Libya and Syria!

This begs the question I long ago asked — where was the need for the Rafale in the first place?

But whether India dominates the skies is not Parly’s interest; that the IAF procures an additional 36 Rafales is. In a meeting with the French press at the embassy that evening, Parly was reportedly confident that Paris will be able to ring up such a sale on the same terms, but without the ‘sunk costs’ of attending infrastructure — airconditioned hangars, special diagnostic and testing machines, etc.

When reminded by a pesky French journo that such a follow-up deal clashes head-on with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘atm nirbharta’ policy and the thrust of Rajnath Singh’s ‘negative list’ thinking, Madame Parly dissembled but did not budge from her stand, indirectly hinting that such a deal would be signed for the same reason the original was approved in April 2015: Modi will agree to buy ’em. End of argument! Irrelevant considerations like, where’s the money? are obviously not expected to intrude into the Indian government’s calculations, or at least Paris does not expect them to.

Both France and the IAF had gamed this out right, and their plan is working. IAF was the decisive actor here. It had sought the 36 Rafales it was partial to from the beginning as a wedge purchase easing the buy, as I had predicted, of more such aircraft to fill the Service’s entire 126 MMRCA requirement without having to go through the transfer-of- technology and licensed manufacture cycle.

France has a real mastery in stato and ramjet. The GB lacks that, so every one want to pull the whole project where they are stronger.
All the new weapon systems are built so as to react faster. A supersonic or hypersonnic weapon seems better than a subsonic one... Specially in anti ship mission.

But there is something in France that can change that vision : the need to be sure a potential opponent can't confuse a classical attack (subsonic today) with a nuclear one (supersonic today).
If the classical next gen cruise missile is supersonic, the deterrent one must be hypersonic (it is the way we are working for).

I see a dark futur for the GB / France common effort on that missile family. Because the two army/industrial cluster don't agree, and because Brexit.

Range : for a same overall weight and a same technical level, the faster the missile is, the shorter the range is... Now you have to choose.

Huge news!! The offset requirement has been cancelled for Government to Government contracts. Also, leasing of equipment and platforms is now allowed. This will allow much faster induction of equipment into the forces besides reducing prices!! So the next batch of Rafales should be cheaper. Or if the IAF decides to go for another aircraft, the same criterion will apply. The IAF will also be able to lease tankers if they now wish. Very big and welcome news

Govt scraps offset policy for govt-to-govt deals, allows leasing of defence equipment

That's done because French haven't provided any TOT or offset yet neither for Mirage upgrade deal nor Rafale.

It also states instead of offset if technology worth that amount is provided it is fine. Though we know thats not going to happen either.

It clearly looks like we have been twisted bad. If we had put that amount on Gripen or Indigenous projects things would have been much better.

Going forward once current urgent build up ends, all money needs to go towards Tejas only with accountable deadlines.

Not requested for M2000 deal, and the dead line for Rafale deal offsets is 2022.

offsets may be different of ToT..... all deênds of what was agreed. You (and I) don't know what was inked.
