Does it really make economic sense to do a one off integration of the Meteor on the RDY-3 of the Mirage 2000 when HAL was not willing to do it on new build LCA Mk1A aircraft? The Mirage 2000 airframe is 35 years old, the RDY-3 willl not enable the Meteor to be used to it's full potential, no other airforce which flies the Mirage 2000 is integrating the Meteor which means that the IAF will have to bear the full cost of integration which will take years. For pointers on cost, just look at the cost of integrating the ELBIT HMD&C on the Rafale, which is an IAF exclusive. For a hint on the time that could be taken, consider that even for integrating the Meteor with the APG-81 F-35 radar will take a total of 5 years, the program started last year and the first RAF F-35Bs will be operational with the Meteor in 2024. So, all in all, it made no sense to integrate the Meteor. What the IAF sensibly did was upgrade to the Mica which is being done by other airforces including the French Air Force and the UAE Air Force. By 2026 when the Mica NG is likely to be operational it may make sense to figure out whether to try and integrate that AAM with the Mirage 2000. The NG will have a dual radar homing/IIR seeker and have the same form factor as the existing Mica.
that is the very reason IAF didnt went for the upgrade .Too costly with handicap capabilty .So no point of integrating it.If it had been cheaper then it would have been a different thing.

RDY 3 is specifically for UAE .RDY 3 is claimed to be for production variant of RDY 2 various sources are confusing it's name with IAF mirages .

Overall it wont happen .so i think no point of debating further on that issue .

Tensions between Greece and Turkey: France sends two Rafales and two navy vessels
On July 23, Emmanuel Macron strongly criticized the “violations” of Greek and Cypriot sovereignty by Turkey.
Le Monde with AFP Posted today at 11:53, updated at 12:12

France has temporarily deployed two Rafale fighters and two naval vessels in the eastern Mediterranean amid tensions between Greece and Turkey over gas exploitation, the French Ministry of the Armed Forces announced Thursday (August 13th).

On Tuesday, Ankara said that it had sent a ship the day before to search for hydrocarbons in an area two-thirds of the Greek maritime zone, disputed for decades by Turkey. Greece immediately reacted by sending a boat to "monitor" Turkish activities, according to Athens, warning through the voice of its prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, "that no provocation would go unanswered" .

Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday evening the temporary strengthening of the French military presence in this area and called on Greece and Turkey, both members of NATO, to coordinate more to ease tensions. On July 23, the Head of State strongly criticized the “violations” of Greek and Cypriot sovereignty by Turkey concerning the exploration of gas resources at sea.

" [The] [French] military presence aims to strengthen the autonomous assessment of the situation and to affirm France's attachment to free movement, to the safety of maritime navigation in the Mediterranean and to respect for the law. international, ” said the Ministry of the Armed Forces.

The two Rafales will make a “stopover” Thursday in Souda, Crete, and will stay there “a few days” , the ministry said. They had previously been deployed to Cyprus from Monday to Wednesday for an exercise. The Tonnerre helicopter carrier , which is on its way to Beirut to provide assistance after the deadly explosion of August 4, was also joined overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in the Mediterranean by the frigate La Fayette, which had sailed from Larnaca (Cyprus) and carried out an exercise with the Greek Navy.

Ongoing talks
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday morning said during a speech to his party officials that he would meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Council President Charles Michel during the day.

"The solution in the Eastern Mediterranean passes through dialogue and negotiations," said the Turkish president, adding however that Ankara "would not let any country infringe on its rights" .

Athens accuses Ankara of violating its territory by carrying out energy research in the south of the Greek island of Kastellorizo (Meis, in Turkish), but Turkey refuses to admit that this small territory located near its coasts limits its field of action . “Claiming maritime sovereignty by using the island of Meis, located two kilometers from the Turkish coast and 580 kilometers from mainland Greece, cannot be rationally explained , Erdogan added to his party officials.

Political strategy
The discovery in recent years of vast gas fields in the eastern Mediterranean has whetted the appetite of the riparian countries and heightened tensions between Turkey and Greece, Ankara in particular wishing to impose itself in the rush for hydrocarbons and to assert itself as the leading power. in the eastern Mediterranean.

"Greece and Turkey have always had complicated neighborly relations, but since the failed coup against Erdogan in 2016, the situation has deteriorated markedly", explained to the World Panagiotis Tsakonas, professor of international relations at the University of Athens. Confronted in his country with a severe economic crisis, the Turkish president is trying to shine on the international scene and extend his influence beyond Turkish borders, in Syria, Libya and the Mediterranean.

Another sign of this desire to conquer: in November 2019, Turkey signed an agreement with the Libyan National Accord Government (GAN) which delimits bilateral maritime borders by encroaching on exclusive Greek and Cypriot areas.

SCALP is already integrated on M2000.
It's not the case of Meteor, because this missile only fit under the 2 hard points of wings, ie only one space for a 1200 liters external tanks : Too few.
Add to that the lack of radar range versus RBE2 AESA... (ie the Gripen C, with Meteor, can(t exploit it fully....)
I don’t get what you are trying to say. Too few what?

IAF test fires air-to-air missiles ahead of Rafale integration
By Hemant Kumar Rout| Express News Service | Published: 19th August 2020 08:00 AM

BHUBANESWAR: Amid a protracted stand-off along the LAC, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has accomplished a secret mission by conducting several rounds of air-to-air missiles that have recently been acquired from France and Russia from a frontline fighter aircraft off Odisha coast.

Defence sources said anti-air multi-target MICA missile fired from Sukhoi-30 MKI for the first time successfully destroyed expendable aerial targets (EATs), demonstrating its stealth capabilities. Ahead of the planned integration with multi-role combat aircraft Rafale, the IAF test fired two rounds of Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air missile MICA fighter aircraft on Monday and Tuesday.

The fighter aircraft took off from Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal and fired the missile, successfully neutralising the aerial target drone mimicking enemy aircraft at low altitude. “All mission parameters have been met as the target was destroyed validating the missile’s launch envelope. The missile will equip both Sukhoi and Rafale fighter jets,” a defence official told ‘The Express’.

Acquired from France, MICA is an all weather missile system available in both short and medium ranges. The fire-and-forget missile can be used both by air platforms as well as ground units and ships.

The 3.1 metre long missile having a diameter of 0.16 m weighs around 112 kg. It can neutralise targets within a range of 500 metre to 60 km. Of its two variants guided by radio frequency (RF) and infrared (IR), MICA-RF has an active radar homing seeker and MICA-IR has an imaging infra-red homing seeker. Both seekers are designed to filter out counter-measures.

Last week, the IAF had conducted two rounds test of R-77 air-to-air missile acquired from Russia. The multi-purpose missile can be used against a range of aircraft, both tactical and strategic and from hovering helicopters to high-speed at different altitudes. The medium-range air-to-air guided missile R-77 is about 3.6 metre in length and 200 mm in diametre. It weighs around 175 kg. It has an operational range of 80 km to 100 km. Both the missions were conducted by the IAF while the DRDO provided the logistic support. After the successful trial of Dhruvastra last month, the twin missions during the Covid-19 pandemic proved the readiness of the test range.

“The IAF is in the process of upgrading its squadrons. It is also in process of procuring Meteor missile from the European weapon maker MBDA. Rafale will be equipped with MICA and Meteor,” the official added.

IAF prepares for PM Modi, French Defence Minister at Rafale induction ceremony Published August 21, 2020 | By admin SOURCE: ET The air force if planning for a high-profile Rafale induction ceremony which may include Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French defence minister Florence Parly at the air force station in Ambala where the first five aircraft have been stationed. Sources said that preparations are on for a formal ceremony that is likely to take place in the coming weeks though a final date has not been decided on. The five Rafale jets are being integrated into the air force ecosystem and have already proven their mettle with successful weapons firing at a test range after arrival. French defence minister Parly, who had earlier pledged support for India as the China crisis unfolded and had requested for a bilateral visit, is likely to be part of the formal ceremony at Ambala, sources said. While the first batch of Rafales arrived at Ambala on July 29, the air force had said that a final induction ceremony is planned in the second half of August and that efforts are focused on operationalisation of the aircraft at the earliest. The French side is also likely to raise the possibility of a larger order for the Rafale fighter jets under the Make in India initiative. Sources said that a proposal for creating a new production line for Rafale fighter jets in India could be on the table. Given new foreign direct investment (FDI) relaxations that will allow foreign companies to have 74% stake in defence entities, the French side is believed to have an interest in investing in setting up a new production line, if a sufficient order book is available. While India has ordered 36 Rafale jets as an off the shelf purchase, sources said that an economically viable production line could be set up if there is an assured order for at least 100 more aircraft, besides options to cater to the export market. As reported by ET earlier, the assessment is that additional orders for the Rafale jets could cost considerably lesser than the Euro 7.8 billion paid for the first batch of 36 aircraft as fixed costs for training, creating infrastructure and making India-specific enhancements have been taken care of. The air force is also progressing on a medium fighter jet acquisition programme under the strategic partnership (SP) model to acquire 114 aircraft. The competitive process—with suitors from the US, Russia, France and Sweden—is yet to fully kick off but the air force is keen to ensure that an entire transfer of technology takes place as part of the Make in India initiative
