Thats whats useful for situational awareness and thus more data can be put on the screen,
Not sure if the SH pilots are near sighted, but might seems that the Rafale pilots helmet surely might have numbered glass so tht they can see the display more magnified... or maybe they have to frequently have to go between Next and Previous pages to get all the info.
Chess is not the game for SH pilots, they might go team shooting games as their planes are better networked.

Nice. It's very usefull to play chess between pilot and rear seat.

Or it is because US pilots are more and more nearsighted.

Look the 2 screens of front and rear SH18 bk3 seat : A large picture in the middle and two smaller on each side...
Something like that ....

:clap2:

Another defeat for Rafale...

European fighter-jet manufacturer pulls out of Canadian competition to replace CF-18s

The federal government has hit a first obstacle in its effort to foster a competition among five aircraft manufacturers for the $26-billion contract to replace Canada’s fleet of CF-18s, as French-based Dassault Aviation has pulled its Rafale fighter jet out of the race, sources said.

The Indian government should drive a hard bargain against Dassault since it's clear Rafale is running out of customers.

I hope this govt knows that Figher plane market is BUYERS MARKET,
The problem with India was that we entered the market believing its sellers market and so we allowed others to dominate us in negotiations

It's not my habit to change of topic, and specially with Rafale.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Fact 1 - we were talking about the costs

Fact 2 - the first deal might be INs fighter requirement, because of the delivery time line of IAC1

Fact 3 - Rafale's flyaway cost is undeniably costlier than the F18s

Fact 4 - ISE are not the same for all fighters and therefor can be costlier or cheaper, depending on what required capabilities the fighter lacks or already has

Fact 5 - even if the MMRCA 2.0 time line would include the Rafale F4 (which is available only by 2025), the costs will be higher, due to the new version and it's upgrades.

That is the crucial point, be it by the end of 2013/early 2014 for UPA and the end of 2014/early 2015 for NDA, both government should had puto a stop on Dassaults behaviour and looked at another alternative, for the sake of IAF and Indias reputation. We were kept as a hostage by a foreign OEM for 3 years and at the end even gave them a 9 billion dollar present for it.

Fact 1 : OK , we were talking of costs. And I said all the other containders except rafale will have to present Indian govt a bill for Indigenization. For rafale it's done.

Fact 2 : I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. Is it important, and why?

Fact 3 : Not sure. as F18 is heavier.

Fact 4 : OK.

Fact 5 : Rafale full F4 will be ready for 2023/2024. Costs to be higher because the plane will be even more potent, with a >270° radar coverage thanks to side conformal array. And some more goodies to come. Gripen E costs more than Gripen C. SH18 costs more than F18. F16 bk50 costs more than bk15.... so is Rafale.

Distract? when? Divert? where?
- F16 B60 and F18B3 weapon load advantage, due to CFTs
- EFs AESA size advantage
- Mirage 2000 being able to do the same roles as Rafale
- F3R being a poor upgrade
...
...
...
- F18 flyaway cost advantage

There are too many distractions in all the discussions we had.
And still I would prefer to have real talks on Rafale with you, not just the fan boy views.

Fact 1 : OK , we were talking of costs. And I said all the other containders except rafale will have to present Indian govt a bill for Indigenization. For rafale it's done.
Admitting that you are wrong, followed by another distraction. We are talking about the flyaway cost, therefor distractions to ISE costs have no meaning.

Fact 2 : I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. Is it important, and why?
Of course it's important and you know exactly why, because any delivery time line ahead of 2025 rules out your justification of F4 capabilities, which leaves Rafale inferior to competitors in some fields.

In MMRCA Rafale had the advantage of not only being highly capable and advanced, but also to be fully developed with the proposed capabilities.
But with the F4 being available only far behind the upgrades of the competition, Rafale proposals might be based only on the F3R, which India already has on order, so no improvements.

Fact 5 : Rafale full F4 will be ready for 2023/2024.
Nope, full F4 will be available only from 2025 onwards, only software upgrades will be available earlier and probably only in relation for French forces.

$10.2bn deal in 2008 turned into 19.5bn euro in 2012?

One of the first price at the beginning of MMRCA was an indian govt or IAF estimation.
The final figure depend of the plane chosed (light, medium, single engine or dual one), the level of support, the level of MII.
One of the last price included the HAL manpower eval for Rafale : 2.7 times more than in France....

No one on any forum knows exactly what is really behind these datas.

With zero record versus F-35, yeah right.
The US pressure is huge.
During Clinton govt there was a special war room to kill the Rafale that was seen that a huge threat.
F35 was, partially, made to kill european aircraft industry. And it partially run according to the plan.

F3R standard ready for delivery

This is a big step that is being set up for the French fighter Rafale with the qualification of the new F3-R standard.
The start of work to adapt the updates began in October of the 144 Rafale currently in service within the Air Force and the Navy. The first ten Rafale F3-R aircraft, four of which will be delivered before the end of the year, to complete their operational appropriation, already initiated alongside the test teams of the DGA.

An important update:
Like the previous standards, the new F3-R standard brings major software and hardware evolutions.
In particular, two new capabilities profoundly change the game in the field of combat aviation:
- The association of the new "Meteor" very long-range air-to-air missile with the active antenna "RBE2" electronic scanning radar.
- The arrival of the new generation "Talios" nacelle, which greatly improves the capabilities of target detection, reconnaissance and identification, day and night for air-to-ground strikes very precise.
In terms of air-to-ground capability, the pilot will be able to select the impact mode of the guided laser / GPS AASM bomb.
In addition, the Rafale will also be able to fire the GBU-16 Paveway II guided laser bomb, whose guide kit is mounted on a bomb body Mk 83. Weighing 500 kg, the explosive charge is 200kg. it is now used by M2000D only. Its integration will allow the Rafale to hit hard targets with a small to medium size.
In the cockpit and in a less visible manner, the Rafale will have a new IFF mode 5 / S, the SPECTRA system will be reinforced with better electronic warfare capabilities and the NATO encrypted communication system, the L16 Link, will be improved. In addition, the radar RBE2-AESA (active antenna or Active Electronically Scanned Array) will be modernized and the Rafale has an AGCAS system (Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System) which allows to recover the aircraft in case of a loss of control. We will also find the system SAASM (Selective availability anti-spoofing module). The latter allows, among other things, to avoid the electronic jamming of the GPS by the opponent. The Rafale Marine will have for the refueling of the "buddy-buddy" system which will be carried out with the NARANG nacelle (next-generation refueling platform). The new F3-R standard also takes into account operational feedback, including modular air-to-ground weaponry (AASM), interoperability and regulatory requirements. The continuous improvement approach of the Rafale continues thus reinforcing the omni-role of the aircraft. Note that the next stage of the Rafale is the standard F4 available in 2025. This standard will in particular return the aircraft even more efficient in terms of connectivity.

Missile MICA NG:
In parallel with the standard F3-R, the aircraft will also be equipped from 2026 the new generation of the missile "MICA". Developed in two versions with infrared (IR) and electromagnetic (EM) homing systems, these innovative missiles in the fields of self-steering and propulsion make it possible to maintain the operational advantage in the face of evolving threats. In addition to MBDA, the manufacturers involved in this project are in particular Thales, Safran and Roxel, for self-propelled and propulsion.
