KMW-led Team Offers German Frontline Maintenance

BERLIN - Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has teamed up with nine midsize German companies to offer maintenance and repair to the German military and NATO partners operating in crisis areas.

The partnership, known as Industriegruppe Service im Einsatz (IGS E) has KMW joining forces with CHS Spezialcontainer and CHS Container Handel, FIMAG, Kärcher Futuretech, Zeppelin Mobile Systeme, Drehtainer, WEW Westerwälder Eisenwerk, Schall, and ThyssenKrupp Fahrzeugtechnik. The group hopes to exploit the companies' core competencies, with KMW offering its experience in supporting wheeled and tracked armored vehicles and providing logistics.

■ Zeppelin Mobile Systeme - mobile medicare, communications and shelter systems.

■ Drehtainer - military containers and field camps.

■ WEW Westerwälder Eisenwerk - tank containers for transport of liquids.

■ Schall - tents and containers for rapid deployment.

■ ThyssenKrupp Fahrzeugtechnik - vehicle service and maintenance.

KMW has provided technical support to the German contingent in Afghanistan since the beginning of the International Security Assistance Force operation in 2001. The other companies involved also have experience in providing support and service to forward-deployed German units.

Core elements of the IGS E initiative include joint training for the various support teams, and provision of KMW's Telemaintenance System, which allows immediate remote access to relevant in-theater data.

With about 3,400 employees, Munich-based KMW is a leading European armored vehicle specialist, with locations in Germany, Greece, the Netherlands and the United States. Other activities include simulation, command and control, and reconnaissance systems
