3 out of 7 Nilgiri-class frigates. The other four will be built by MDL.
Ah, right...
The Project 28A/ NGC would be probably built by GRSE as it's based on Kamorta Class Corvette. They should literally merge the Project 28 A the NGMV and also NGOPV and even the Sanchi Replacment into a one Multipurpose programme.

What other projects has GRSE signed up for after the corvettes?
Underlining the monopoly that the defence ministry's four shipyards enjoy, GRSE says it has orders in hand for 22 more warships worth over Rs 27,500 crore. At the current turnover level of Rs 1,386 crore for 2018-19, GRSE's order book is full for the next 20 years.

GRSE's orders include the construction of three Project 17-A frigates, one remaining (out of four ordered) Project 28 anti-submarine corvette, eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft (ASWC), four large survey vessels, two remaining LCUs and four fast patrol vessels.

good news

The last of the four indigenously built anti-submarine warfare (ASW) ships under Project 28, INS Kavaratti, will be commissioned into the Indian Navy on Thursday in Vishakhapatnam.

The Kamorta Class stealth corvettes 'INS Kavaratti' will be commissioned into the Indian Navy by General Manoj Mukund Naravane.

"Touted as a potent Stealth ASW Corvette, Kavaratti is indigenously designed by the Indian Navy's in-house organisation, Directorate of Naval Design (DND), and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. It portrays the growing capability of the Indian Navy," a statement from the Navy said.

Kavaratti takes her name from erstwhile INS Kavaratti, which was an Arnala class missile corvette. The older Kavaratti distinguished herself by operating in support of Bangladesh's liberation in 1971.

The ship has up to 90 per cent indigenous content and the use of carbon composites for the superstructure is a commendable feat achieved in Indian shipbuilding.

The ship's weapons and sensors suite is predominantly indigenous and showcases the nation's growing capability in this niche area.

INS Kavaratti has a state-of-the-art weapons and sensor suite capable of detecting and prosecuting submarines. In addition to its anti-submarine warfare capability, the ship also has a credible self-defence capability and good endurance for long-range deployments.

It is noteworthy that the ship will be commissioned into the Indian Navy as a combat-ready platform because the ship has completed sea trials of all systems fitted onboard.

It is a praiseworthy achievement in itself, taking into consideration the restrictions imposed due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic during which she was delivered to the Navy.

Korean shipyards do 20 ships per year including their own defence and exports. This so called full for 20 years is nothing to be proud off. They are not getting commercial orders. Our private companies are ordering medium tonnage vessels from BD now.

Every country is good at something or the other compared to other countries.

India chose body shopping in IT services 25 years ago, as our main economic driver. South Korea as a national policy after the war chose to focus on a few companies and make them mega global corporations and these mega corporations chose ship building as a focus area along with other product verticals, south korean embassies also work as an extension to these mega corporations over and above their diplomatic mission in other countries.

an information is just an information, its upto us to take it as such or keep bashing ourselves and getting frustrated. It’s an individual choice.

True. I did not want to divert the thread. But the bragging by grse officials is unwanted. Even Korean yards won't say they have orders for 20 years.

This discussion should be carried out in DPSU thread. Peace out.
