Yep that what am telling in earlier, by using air cooled radar u can achieve aesa radar on paper but in effectiveness it will be equell to their current kj7 v2 , the new radar won't need much power to operate but it also means it lacks other beneficial properties of liquid cooled radars like higher range, going a2g and a2a mode at same time etc, more or less like bk1 jf17 blunder Chinese successfully fooled Pakistan again with kj7a and block3 Camel show, remember the wild CGI of jf17 with f35 likenintakes and structure changes In The end it turns out to a extended version of jf17 bk2 b, this is the issue with pak military technology they put more in over hyping Rather than actual product
Right after feb27th, there was a news info published that the entire fleet of jf17s of paf was updated with a software flash. Any idea what that was about?

Mostly integarted EW software updates rather than that nothing on that aircraft controlled by a computer, most probably they got su30 mki non training mod frequency so if that frequency updated to ew system they can get much more earlier RWR Warning's, also jf17 didn't used as air escorts they where on strike duty so chance of using fight data obtained from feb27th mission to alter mission computer to agile during dogfights or any flight performance improvement out of scope

Enter JF-17 Block-3 with AESA radar with 4+ generation sensors suit, better self protection jamming/informatised warfare capabilities with main weapon as PL-15E. Initially 50 Block-3 will join PAF fleet with hopefully more to come. This should make PAF a credible defensive force

Sorry but where is jammer on the tail....that's RWR if I'm not wrong...

Certainly the prototype didn't flew with any of the aesa radar china claimed to have developed.."4+ gen sensor suite"such as....'main weapon PL15E' 🤣🤣🤣🤣 only certain squadrons of Chinese airforce are flying with the PL15 which itself is a contemporary of AMRAAM ...'informatised warfare' what is that 🤣🤣🤣

still it doesn't have SDR. even it's pod jammer will be inferior to Israeli jammer on mk1a.

RD-93MA engine (for JF-17 Jet) Undergoing Tests

A new engine for the Pakistani JF-17 fighter jet, dubbed RD-93MA being developed by Russia’s United Engine Corporation (UEC)-Klimov has entered thermal chamber tests to confirm high-speed characteristics in simulated flight conditions.

The RD-93MA has been specifically developed to power single engine light fighter jets. It is an upgrade of the RD-93 engine which currently powers the Pakistani JF-17/Chinese Chengdu FC-1 single engine fighter jets.

With the successful completion of the thermal chamber test stage, it will be possible to proceed to flight design tests. A set of tests in the TsIAM large thermal pressure chamber will be held as part of the experimental design work on the RD-93MA, a UEC statement said today.

During the tests, the engine will simulate conditions as close as possible to actual flight. Here, the BARK-93MA, the automatic control system of the engine, designed and manufactured at UEC-Klimov, will also be put to test.

The thrust of the RD-93MA is expected to 9300 Kgf compared to 8300 kgf of the RD-93, a significant bump-up in power which will help the JF-17/FC-1 to carry more armaments and fly at a higher speed (this information is not from UEC but earlier published sources).

The RD-93MA engine is distinguished by improved operational characteristics, increased thermodynamic parameters, a larger fan and an upgraded automatic power plant control system. The main engine parameters are also enhanced- the assigned resource and thrust, an emergency engine start mode is provided, and the possibility of emergency fuel drain is realized.” the statement said.



All this is due to the specifics associated with the possible use of the power plant on a single-engine aircraft, which entails additional safety requirements,the statement added leaving no doubt as to its potential applications for an foreign customer as Russia does not possess a single-engine fighter jet.

“The start of testing was preceded by a long preparatory phase. During 2018-2019 design documentation was handed over to manufacturing plants, production was organized in a new cooperation structure, engine models of the RD-93MA were developed and a new engine "harness" was manufactured. In addition, tests of the VK-100-1MK turbo-starter in the TsIAM heat chamber according to confirmation of high-altitude launch were conducted. Prototypes of the BARK-93MA (automatic engine control system) were made and much more,” the statement said.

The JF-17 block III, a highly advanced version of the JF-17 Block II, was test flown for the first time at the start of this year. Besides the engine, the key upgrade is an AESA- Active electronically scanning array- radar which has already been selected from a Chinese manufacturer.

Earlier reports said the RD-93MA engine will be directly sold to Pakistan. However, sources told defenseworld.net that the engine upgrade work is under contract from a Chinese company for which over 100 such engines is to be manufactured.

The engine is expected to enter fight test mode towards the end of the year which means the JF-17 Block III would enter flight tests with the RD-93MA engine sometime in 2021-22 at the earliest.

A Russian company announced on Wednesday that a new engine for fighter aircraft that it had developed has been shipped for conducting thermal pressure chamber tests. The state-owned United Engine Corporation controls development and manufacturing of all engines for military, civilian and space use in Russia and for Russian exports. The UEC’s Klimov plant in St Petersburg had been developing the RD-93MA engine, which is a modification of the RD-93 engine, used on the JF-17 fighter, being built by Pakistan and China.

In a press release on its website on Wednesday, UEC said the RD-93MA engine had been shipped from St. Petersburg to Moscow for thermal pressure chamber trials at the Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM). The pressure chamber trials at CIAM are expected to subject the RD-93MA engine to simulated heat and altitude conditions the power-plant would experience in actual flight.

The UEC press release states, “The RD-93MA engine has improved performance. In particular, increased thermodynamic parameters, an improved design of the fan and the hot part, an upgraded automatic power-plant control system… An additional emergency engine start mode was provided… and the possibility of emergency fuel drain was realised. All this is due to the specifics associated with the possible use of the power-plant on a single-engine aircraft…”

The reference to use in single-engine aircraft has given rise to speculation that the new engine is destined for the JF-17 fighter. This is because Russia does not have any active single-engine fighter project at the moment.

According to reports, the RD-93MA engine can produce maximum thrust of 9,300 kgf (kilogram-force). The RD-93MA would have significantly greater thrust than the existing RD-93 engine used on Pakistan’s JF-17 fighter, which can produce maximum thrust of 8,300kgf, according to UEC.

Having a new engine offers advantages in addition to increased thrust in combat situations. In December, Chinese state media confirmed that the latest version of the JF-17, dubbed the JF-17 Block 3, had made its maiden flight. The upgraded fighter will have new electronically scanned radar and other electronics, all of which necessitate higher power requirements than can be met by the existing power-plant.

Pakistan has already built over 100 JF-17 fighters for its air force and officials have indicated 62 JF-17 Block 3 fighters will be ordered by 2024.

In 2015, IHS Jane’s Defense Weekly reported Pakistan would continue to use Russian engines for the JF-17 even though China was developing an alternate engine. “We are completely satisfied with this Russian-made engine,” an official Pakistan Aeronautical Complex had told IHS Jane’s Defense Weekly. Pakistani officials had claimed “changing to another engine would not make any sense and would be disruptive and cause a huge expense for the JF-17 programme”.

Interestingly, the RD-93 has a connection to India. The RD-93 is developed from the RD-33 engine that powers the MiG-29UPG fighters of the Indian Air Force and MiG-29K jets of the Indian Navy. India operates over 60 MiG-29UPG jets and about 40 MiG-29K fighters. The government recently cleared the purchase of 21 MiG-29 fighters for the Indian Air Force.

Despite repeated Indian protests in the past two decades, Russia has continued supply of the RD-93 to China and Pakistan.

Jokes aside, those Aesa are going to be a problem. PL15 are not a problem, since IAF is battle proven to keep these suckers loosing from there pylons. Detection will be the key.

However, Chinese AESA have not much public info available. So can't say much.

Most of the Chinese aircraft have big engines 120+Kn we don't how they will perform with lesser power input of RD-33 engine and doesn't matter how much russi update that engine design and technical structure is of 1970s.
GE-404 is leagues ahead of that engine.

Chinese Engines still lack power. They weren’t able to completely crack russian engines apart. It might take at least 2 or 3 more years for them to fully copy and reverse engineer russian engine technology in mass numbers for there multitude of aircraft programs.

I highly doubt they are interested in Russian Jet Engine technology given the low shelf life and high maintenance which comes with Russian Engines. They had access and still have access to Russian Jet Engines, if they haven't successfully reverse engineered before they won't be able to do it now. That is why espionage seems to be favorite for Chinese to gain to Jet Engine technology.


US says they have caught spies who were trying to or stole Jet Engine technology. Who knows what the Chinese have in their possession now.
