Russians are not stupid enough to give away their MIG and Sukhoi markets that would leave them with no warplanes to sell and Chinese laughing all the way to the bank with Russian engines.

I think no one want Jf17 to eat their share (Russians or the US or EU). Russians have done what their commercial interest demands, they were not been able to do the same in past as they needed $$$ for there economy now they are strong.

Plus PAF is stupid to trust Russian engine for JF17, given the past Indian relationship with Russia.

JF 17 is now 5 years delay, it is bad i wanted to see this Junk fighter with PAF now with will beg for more F16 from US.

More F-16's to Pakistan will guarantee F-16 will not make MRCA shortlist and possibly become the first plane out.

which could emerge as a rival for its MiG-29 fighter in the global markets, according to a report today.
How a fighter with half payload, half range, half weight, half price, half technologically advanced can be a competitor or rival of Mig-29s in international market? Has RAC MIG decided to reproduce 'U/UB' models? I believe 'Kommersant' is quoting a wild speculation under cover of an unknown source. However Mig-29 and JF-17 can be rival in Egyptian, Algerian type market but then decision will not on technical and tactical capability rather on price and Islamic brotherhood(they are mistaken that JF-17 is pakistani) as both jet are in different category. If this true then Russians will surely try and kill any chances of export by restricting export of engine.

Project 33(MIG-33) strike fighter similar in capabilities to the then-General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, development work began on this design about 1980, but it was canceled in 1986 as the result of changing Soviet Air Force requirements. However, in 1998 China purchased the design and test data from Russia to aid in expediting the development of the Chengdu JF-17/FC-1

If Russians stick to what they say and dont look out for more $$ from China and Pakistan then we will see any non Chines robbing off Pakistan for JF 17 engine and that engine will be under power and will take some time to be integrated and tested on JF, if that require some modification then it will delay the induction of JF17 to 3-5 years that is for sure.

BTW USA wants to Sell F16 for hard $$$...........that too with his terms and conditions.

So, what are the options for JF-17, if RD-93 engine deal doesn't go through?? To me there is nothing seem to be on the horizon for JF-17 as far as engine is concerned.

i think only options they could have is WS-10 or its derivatives after 5 years, buy then they will get expertise in reverse-engineering the RD-93 or Sukhoi's engines.

WS13. it was tested on FC1 several months ago.

CD reports that Russia's cancelling the deal is " toooooo late" and can not afftect the advancement of FC1 project

Guizhou aircraft industry is advancing two mid-thrust engine projects at the same time.

One is WS13 for FC1,the other is for CHina's 5 G double-engined mid-sized bird.

WS13 for Fc1 can be finished soon, but the one for 5G double-eigined mid-sized bird will take some time.

ws-13 will not be available until 2014 at best, without a third generation engine developed China can only dream about fifth generation engines.

well, let's wait and see whether CD's information is right or not....

I now would rather accept CD more than Kanwa or Janes, because both Kanwa and janes always copy information from CD.

Chinese engine development was dependent on Russia and now they are out of the picture. China should not have boasted about exporting fighters when they had no indigenous capability to produce them.

Russia Blocks Sale of Chinese JF-17 Fighter Jets to Pakistan

Russia has blocked the sale of Chinese fighter planes with Russian engines to Pakistan. "We've denied China the right to supply its JF-17 fighter aircraft powered by Russian RD-93 engines to third countries, asking it to sign an end-user certificate for the engines," said Colonel-General Anatoly Mazurkevich, head of the Defence Ministry's International Cooperation Department.

President Pervez Musharraf said last year that the JF-17s would be flying in Pakistani skies by March 2007. Islamabad plans to acquire 150 JF-17s, known in China as FC-1. China has bought 100 Klimov RD-93 engines from Russia for installing on JF-17s, with an option to contract another 400 engines.

Speaking to Indian and Russian journalists ahead of a visit to India by Russia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov on January 22, Col.-Gen. Mazurkevich confirmed that India and Russia are shortly to sign accords to jointly develop and produce a 5th generation fighter plane and a multi-role transport aircraft.

India is expected to announce during Mr. Ivanov's visit its choice between two Russian concepts of a multi-role stealth fighter plane of the 5th generation that the Russian aviation majors, Sukhoi and MIG, presented to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) last year.

The aircraft deals will be discussed when Mr. Ivanov co-chairs with Defence Minister A.K. Antony the 6th meeting of the Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission for Military-Technical Cooperation. Ahead of the commission meeting on January 24 Mr. Ivanov will fly to Bangalore to visit the HAL and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), as well as some leading Information and Technology companies, and meet business people.

Sukhoi and MiG opposed the sale of engines to China

Russian aircraft company RSK MiG and OKB Sukhoi opposed a new contract with China for engines RD-93, which are used in the Chinese FC-1 fighters and export options. Big Deal. Sukhoi and MiG are not the Russian government. The Russians will pressure China a little, and after extracting a higher price, give their consent. After all, which other country is willing to buy 500 RD93 engines from them? (India doesn't count, we are already in their pocket).
