b) Mig-21 the workhorse of air interception was to be replaced with equally light Fighter but with the addition of features like shallow strikes capability and ground support.
This is the wrong thread, but i don't think Tejas is going to be an interceptor... It's most likely to act as augment, supplement & replacement of the role for Mig-27, Jaguar & Mirage-2000.

(I'm talking primary use, other even Mig-21s can rocket ground-targets)

Further down from the same post you quoted.

" The fact remains that Tejas is an evolving platform which is already much more than what it was originally conceived to become."

That's normal... true for Tejas. Mark1 FOC, Arjun Mark 1A etc. Nothing to harp about.
You can't expected them to have the same specs & requirements as the '90s.

What I'm saying is, in future, Tejas & Rafale are going to be first choice for ground strike missions... like Mirage 2000s are today, while Super-30 or Mig-29 (& someday AMCA) do air-dominance.
Multiroles still do have strong suites.

That HARPING is in a context. ............

and of course you have a source.
Please give it.
Don't underestimate Tejas it's already better than upgraded jaguars, Mirage 2000, jf17 bunder in IOC configuration itself. During Gagan Shakti it made 6 sorties per day and did some real precision bombing equivalent to mirage2k. It also has better handling characteristics than M2k. Tejas mk1A will be still better and Tejas Mk2 will be semi stealth true MWF fighter as potent as Gripen NG. The only thing that is coming in its way is HAL's lethargic work culture & slow delivery rate. Hal promised Mk1A (gripen c/d equivalent) first flight by 2019 but it's delayed by a year and still is struggling to ramp up production to 16 of the promised 24. Rest assured lca Tejas is quite potent even in its current form and can be upgraded to mk1a when that Standard is ready....

The first one is a book about Modi's strategy by Bharat Karnad who is no way to qualify an aviation specialist.

The second one by ersakthivel? Once I read this name, I know can ignore this. If you doesn't know about the fame of this gentleman, just go to the Tejas thread, read from the beginning.

The last 3 are just one military fan copying from another military fan, even the words don't change.

As i was corrected before, Tejas has 45% composite content by weight & 90% of the surface area.
This is the biggest myth created by fanboy, more composite doesn't necessary mean better stealth. The best example is F35 of which 35% of weight is composite, but her stealth level is worse than F22 which has only 25%.
Most of composite has the benefit of reducing the weight and stronger not stealth. The general stealth composite we are talking about here is the painting. But its stealth effect is limited, 90% of stealth effect is contributed by shape.

Those aren't the original source ofcourse. That's example of 0.3-0.5m² value doing rounds on the internet.

When, where & from whom that came out can be found of you look through old posts.
I think it was HAL chief in an interview years ago, like 2012... not sure though

Bharat Karnad may be no aviation expert, but is a Research Professor in National Security Studies at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi and a national security expert, a member of the first National Security Advisory Board of India’s National Security Council, where he participated in the Nuclear Doctrine Drafting Group and the external security and the technology security groups of the Strategic Review. He also served as advisor on defence expenditure for the 10th Finance Commission (..& ofcourse you couldn't Google that!)

His source could be HAL Chief or Tejas Team themselves and he'd have no need to pull the numbers off his ass if he says 0.3-0.5m² RCS (..unlike random fanboys & haters.)

I didn't underestimate it ! I just found it is late.
Some years ago, I thought about an Indian-french deal : some tejas for the french air force (so as to replace old Mirage F1 and Mirage 2000 to operate in Africa or for peace time air defense mission over France) against Rafale for India.
A full fleet of rafale for France is nice for support, but over priced for peace time mission, show of force in africa or Taliban hunt

The background of this gentleman makes me more skeptical about his claim. This kind of people has no problem to share their personal opinions, but you better check any specific technical detail from their mouth. Themselves are part of propaganda machine, no matter he is Chinese, Russian American, or Indian

Dude you really think anyone on this forum is going to tell you Tejas' real RCS as if we have it lying in the folder next to the porn pics. If you have the tools, measure it yourself. Just like IAF cancelled the su57 cooperation after measuring the J-20 and J-31 RCS.
