It's a junk plane stop giving it any importance, they inducted 120 of these & it has yet to match Mk1a specifications --- it's necessity not what PAF want.
I said 'decent', which is far from great. I mean if PAF is able to replace its Mirage 3/5 and F7 with JF17 entirely, then they'd have standardized most of their fleet and will save a lot of money and effort in the upkeep and providing spares. The R&D will be taken care of by the Chinese, so PAF will only have to pay for procurement.
And to be frank, even Mk1a is not upto the specifications put up for itself yet, since not even one airframe has been built.
The target for both tejas and Jf17 is pretty much the same -
Lightweight single seat point defense fighter,
secondary ground attack role,
built of indigenous content,
costing no more than $1B per squadron including accessories, spares etc.
