KARACHI: The JF-17 Thunder has been formally inducted in the prestigious No 2 Multirole Squadron of Pakistan Air Force. To mark the historic event, a ceremony was held at the PAF Base, Masroor, Karachi.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif was the chief guest on the occasion, while Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, was also present.

The air chief said that since its inception No 2 squadron has had commendable achievements to its credit. He paid tribute to Shuhada, veterans and predecessors of No 2 Squadron who displayed exceptional professionalism and valour.

“JF-17 Thunder is the pride of the PAF and the nation of Pakistan. It is proof of our abilities and a testament to our dedication and evidence of smooth progress on the road of indigenisation,” the air chief added.

LCA Tejas firing Chengdu JF-17 Thunder

Why?

The Tejas is a light multirole fighter fit for the 21st century. It uses a lot of new technology and innovation, such as its use of large amounts of composite materials, its advanced avionics system and its unique aerodynamic configuration. In terms of functionality, the LCA Tejas has good potential to be expanded into variants. For example, at a time when the air force version is yet to be commissioned widely, a ship-based version of the aircraft has already been released.

The Xiaolong is a third-generation model designed for the international market. The use of off-the-shelf materials not only cuts costs but also reduces risks in the design process and improves the reliability of the aircraft. This will not make it the best aircraft, but rather a standard, cheap and reliable model for air-to-air combat. In summation, the Xiaolong is the aircraft of today and the Tejas is the aircraft of tomorrow.

In 1998 China purchased the design and test data from Russia to aid in expediting the development of the Chengdu JF-17/FC-1.

JF-17 is more comparable to the HJT-36 Sitara intermediate jet trainer – since both have an all-metal airframe, conventional controls, and an externally sourced engine. And the Sitara was developed even faster than the Thunder.

He used only word "Chengdu" for FC-1X.
Simply, his intention wasn't towards pakistan, he was trying to demean some other. What's your problem? :p
For JFT, yes, it's a souped up(improved) MiG-21 which India is busy in retiring now a days.
So, if FCX was in IAF today, it may even not be retired (because it's "improved" MiG-21) but on verge of that and not a very useful fighters to meet the standards.

to add on to the above the basic JF-17 Design was already ready 21 years ago at Chengdu, All Pakistan has done is upgrade the Electronics and Engine and call it the Thunder.
Still a remarkable achievement building the TATA Nano of Warplanes.

Nano? No it's Maruti 800.
It's Ambassador car actually.

Oops! :p Pakistan has no Car Company of it's own.
But wait a minute.
1. They have not a single indigenous automobile company.
2. They do not have made a Motorcycle engine in history.
3. They don't have indigenous railway locomotives.
And they claim they're building missiles and planes.
Either they are no. 1 fools, or they think we are fools or probably both.
