Japan asks France not to sell helicopter equipment to China | GlobalPost
French Defense Minister rejected this request @Armand2REP in Shangri La Dialogue SingaporeJapan on Sunday asked France to refrain from exporting to China ship-based landing systems for helicopters amid a maritime standoff between Tokyo and Beijing.
In a meeting with French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in Singapore, Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said the sale could lead to an increase in Chinese flights around the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, potentially heightening an already tense situation between the two countries.
Onodera quoted Le Drian as telling him that France did not consider the systems to be for military use. The equipment allows helicopters to land on ships even in bad weather.
