In India we have not been able to develop our existing rivers as waterways but in China they’re not only using existing rivers but also making artificial rivers for diverting water and using it as inland waterways 😁

@Lonewolf You were right Madhya Pradesh will take huge benifit of national waterway one as it is very close to Allahabad and Varanasi
Madhya Pradesh will also benifit from the Waterway to be developed on Yamuna River
The Freight From Maharashtra , Gujarat and Rajasthan will also pass through Madhya Pradesh to access Bay of Bengal and South East Asian Countries using the NW1

Using Narmada as waterways should always be preferred over roadways and railways but
Narmada is not navigable using huge ships of 2000 tonnes like river Ganga and Brahmaputra but it can accommodate 95 tonne ships
Madhya Pradesh has one geographical advantage industries located here can access Arab Sea Using Narmada River and Bay of Bengal using Ganga Bhaghirathi Hooghly River system (NW1)
if terminal on Narmada is linked with Varanasi terminal it will further streamline the process of transporting freight

Why Can’t River Ganga be dredged to maintain a minimum depth of 6 metres on Patna-Kolkata stretch and 3 metre depth on Varanasi-Patna stretch because China has done it on Yangtze River
Under the plan, by 2019 the waterway between Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, and Anqing City in east China's Anhui Province will be dredged to reach a minimum depth of 6 meters and 200 meters in width to allow 10,000-tonne ships to travel from the estuary to the river's middle reaches in Wuhan, and 5,000-tonne ships to go further inland to Yichang City in Hubei Province.
Currently a minimum depth of 2.5 metres is being maintained on Barh to Farakka stretch and it is navigable using 2000 tonne ships

I was thinking if Brahmaputra can be linked to Mekong and Yangtze River Nitin Gadkari said it’s possible to travel from Varanasi to Bangkok on a ship but is it possible to travel from Varanasi to Shanghai using an inland waterway vessel on the Brahmaputra and Yangtze River ?

However, unlike Ganga, Narmada has many dams and few more are in plan. I do not know how long water way can Narmada can offer?

Varanasi Multimodal Terminal can also be used by Pakistan , Afghanistan , Iran , Iraq , Turkey and some other central Asian countries to access South East Asian and East Asian Countries if Pakistan doesn’t allow them to use the land route they can use Kandla port in Gujrat
But if Narmada River is developed as waterways with enough water to make it navigable for 1500 tonne ships then the freight coming from Arab Sea can flow through Narmada to enter Madhya Pradesh and from there it can go to Varanasi Multimodal Terminal
