I checked google earth on this and found the problem to be in the Bengal area. The river gets very narrow on that stretch specially the Farakka to Haldia stretch.Varanasi to Haldia is partially operational cargo ships are already moving after dredging is complete big ships will move
River Ganga is Huge in Bihar , Jharkhand and Bengal it can easily accommodate big ships government has planned to develop NW1 as an economic corridor
No matter how narrow it gets Ganga is always wider than Suez or Panama CanalI checked google earth on this and found the problem to be in the Bengal area. The river gets very narrow on that stretch specially the Farakka to Haldia stretch.
Big thinking, Big Project, Big advantage. You can take any material from Varanasi to Bangkok through inland waterways : Nitin Gadkari
Nothing can beat inland waterways in cost effectiveness USA and China transport 45-50% of their freight through inland waterways Vietnam(45-50%) and Bangladesh(30-35%) tooIndia is a country where the logistic cost is high. It is above 10% of the material cost. Gadkari says that it can be reduced by 4% to 5%. This is very exciting. I saw one of his interview in which he says that his department consumes 40% of Cement and steel produced in India. The quotations for new projects are are coming 30 to 32% lower than the estimated cost. One tunnel which connects Kashmir is in progress. Initial tenders were 11000 crore which cancelled. New tenders has 5000 crore value. Toll tax collection increased by 10000 crore to 34000 crore compared to last year. Toll tax collection is going to witness a big rise in coming years. He said that his department build a RCC road of 2.5 KM in a single day which is a world record. His department build a Tar road of 24 KM in a single day which is also a world rerecord. He said that India's highways will be comparable to best anywhere.
Good things are happening. This need to continue uninterrupted for a year.
Roads are the first step and cheaper and quite wide uses .Nothing can beat inland waterways in cost effectiveness USA and China transport 45-50% of their freight through inland waterways Vietnam(45-50%) and Bangladesh(30-35%) too
China has created an entire economic belt along Yangtze River which generates 40% of their GDP we could have done the same along river Ganga in Eastern UP , Bihar , Jharkhand and Bengal as well as in Brahmaputra river in Northeastern states
In India we ignored our waterways because building roads gives you more votes as people often see it and Use it that’s why we failed to become like China there are many other reasons too
We have a place called alappey in keralaRoads are the first step and cheaper and quite wide uses .
Waterways are the requirements but require investment also , industry need to be setup close to it , it is happening , should have happened earlier but roads are necessary for other pupose too
In China their industrial clusters and cities are built along inland waterways so that the cost of transportation is lowWe have a place called alappey in kerala
The waterways are very developed and sophisticated, there are no delays(atleast in my experience)
Certain places there are more reliant on waterways than roads
We used to do that during ancient timesIn China their industrial clusters and cities are built along inland waterways so that the cost of transportation is low
Use Inland waterways also decreases road traffic accidents and air pollution which is a big problem in India
We spend 14% of our GDP on logistics thanks to poor inland waterway connectivity we transport only 2-3% of our freight using inland waterwaysWe used to do that during ancient times
That too better than most of the civilised world
But transition to that level would be a headache
In alappey I was talking about public transport, which is utilizing waterways, and logistics and stuff to some extent, then there is tourism and fishing industry along the same channel
Pretty cool place actually, that pollution bit might actually be true in the case of alappey because the environment there is quite clean and due to that it attracts a lot of foreign tourists
What exactly you want GoI to learn?Joe Biden has planned to invest 17 billion dollars in already sophisticated inland waterways of USA in his 2.3 trillion dollars infrastructure development plan I hope our government learns something
What's in Joe Biden's $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan? - Times of India
International Business News: The infrastructure plan US President Joe Biden will roll out in Pittsburgh on Wednesday includes $2.3 trillion in investments aimed at everything fromtimesofindia.indiatimes.com
Inland waterways should be prioritized and new cities and industrial clusters should develop alongside national waterways (once they’re complete)What exactly you want GoI to learn?
On one hand you are posting govt policy and implementation news on development of Inland waterways and on the other hand you are saying “GoI should learn”.Inland waterways should be prioritized and new cities and industrial clusters should develop alongside national waterways (once they’re complete)
like it happened along Yangtze River in China
Government is working but the speed is slow even the most important and the biggest national waterway 1 also not fully operational and there are 111 declared National WaterwaysOn one hand you are posting govt policy and implementation news on development of Inland waterways and on the other hand you are saying “GoI should learn”.
How can both contradictory points put forth by you yourself , be valid at the same time?
